|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
Cozy cottage with partial partial view of the harbor in Southwest Harbor, across the street from the path to the public Town Wharf (launch your kayak!) within walking distance of town and the in-season free Islander shuttle to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, and other locations on Mt. Desert Island.
New kitchen with gourmet stove. Dining room with gas log fireplace. The master bedroom has a view of the harbor with its lobster boats and pleasure craft, while the second bedroom has a twin bed that converts to two twins. Full bath with tub/shower. Additional commode in basement. Front deck for quiet evenings; front and backyards for watching the sky or cookouts.
Wireless Internet connection!
I fell in love with Mt. Desert Island and Acadia National Park 40 years ago, and have spent every possible moment there since. For several years I taught astronomy at the Cottage of the Atlantic and spent the entire summer.
The cottage is a 10-minute walk from Beal's Lobster Pound; across the street from SWH Upper Town Dock and the (in season) Islander Shuttle and the ferry to Little Cranberry Island; around the corner from the SWH Medical Center; 2-1/2 blocks from SWH Town Center with its art, wine, and grocery shops, many restaurants and cafes, and the best hardware store in 25 miles! From the front porch, living room or master bedroom you can watch the 12-foot (2 feet/hour!!) tides. Clark Point Road ends at the Coast Guard Station (good to know if you bathe with a flammable rubber duck). The cottage is on the QUIET SIDE of MDI, with very little traffic day or night.
A TripAdvisor rental!
Great home and very clean. Central to all the island has to offer. We had a car, but the free Island Shuttle actually stops right across the street. I would definately stay here again. The host had a lot of information for you to get a feel for what to do. He was very considerate and attentive to detail.
The house was cute, clean and comfortable... within a short walk to town on a lovely street. The weather happened to cooperate which made our stay even more enjoyable. We plan on returning since Hank (the owner) was so easy to work with. He previously emailed information about the area that was quite helpful in our planning. One of the nicer vacations we've experienced!
We had a wonderful journey in MDI and were always happy to relax in this peaceful and charming cottage after a day of hiking. The owner, Hank, has been very welcoming and attentive to our comfort. This little house will have a special place in our souvenirs of this beautiful week of vacation.

This small cottage is in the quiet side of Acadia National Park. It is near the free shuttle bus station and Lobster pond. All of us like it and its evvironment. We did fishing on the ocean and hiking in the acadia NP. We also ate a lot of lobsters.
We didn't notice the speed limit in the main road is changed during first few days, and we were catched by a police when we hurried to Cadilac mountain to watch the sun rise in 4:30AM. That officer was so nice. she didn't give us the ticket.
We'll come back.
The cottage is quaint, charming and clean. Highlights include the picnic table in the backyard, a spacious dining room that comfortably seats four and a comfortable living room.
The kitchen is better stocked with utensils than many 5-star condos and resort apartments that I have rented. Its ample storage and counter space made it enjoyable for cooking evening meals and preparing picnic lunches for outings during the day.
The location couldn't be better. Hikers will be glad to know that several of the most popular hikes are within ten minutes of the cottage. The lobster pound, which serves cooked meals and live lobsters for carry-out, is just several blocks away. The quaint business district of Southwest Harbor, also a very short distance away, has a wine store that carries mid-and high-end wines generally unavailable in grocery stores. Speaking of groceries, the local store store provides 90% of everything we would need. A larger store about a mile or two away carries everything else.
We wouldn't hesitate to stay in the cottage again if we ever return to the area. We wouldn't even bother considering alternatives.
We stayed there for a week in late fall 2008. This little place is very clean and nice, Hank is a pleasure to work with. Nice harbor view from the upstairs, comfy bed and furniture. It's really 1.3 bathrooms because there's an extra WC in the basement laundry area. The stove is a really cool oldtimey-feeling gas stove that's actually quite modern. The area around there is just really picturesque and there are nice restaurants within easy walking distance, also bike rentals, lots of other stuff. Exceeded our expectations in every way.
Southwest Harbor has art shops, shopping, restaurants, and various amenities of its own within walking distance. Bike to Wonderland or enchanting Seawall. Take the nearby and free Islander Shuttle in season to Acadia National Park and Cadillac Mountain, Bar Harbor, and a wonderful variety of sites. In Bar Harbor you can drive or walk out to Bar Island for hiking and wonderful views, but be sure to be back before the tide turns! A short drive takes you to Bass Head Light, among the most photographed objects on the North American continent.
Rent a bicycle and take it with you on the ferry to explore Swan Island, Winter Harbor, Schoodic or the Cranberries. Rent a kayak or go on a guided kayak tour and make Mt. Desert a personal experience, afloat on Frenchman Bay at sunset.
