More to Do:
A large flea market sets up each Thurs-Sun at the Wellfleet Drive-In Theater/Multiplex--only a 5-10 minute walk from the cottage; haggle with the vendors by day, and catch a movie at night. A renowned fruit and vegetable stand is right down the lane, and around the corner an excellent and favorably priced deli/convenience store -- great for essentials, subs, and live lobsters at reasonable prices.
Wellfleet Center is a treasure trove of craft shops, art galleries, and antiques shops; while bucolic Truro offers timeless landscapes and ocean vistas, as well as excellent restaurants. Tour Truro Vineyards winery and taste the product. Historic Provincetown offers unique shops, excellent restaurants, and daily whale watching tours, amidst the bohemian flavor of this artists community.
Boating and Fishing:
It goes without saying that the Outer Cape is a paradise for boaters and fishermen. Several bait and tackle shops are close by for gear, bait, and advice. Charter fishing boats leave from the harbors in Wellfleet, Orleans and Provincetown. You can be successful surf casting for stripers and blues from any of the ocean beaches, and from Great Island in Wellfleet. Gull pond in Wellfleet is stocked with trout and bass (in summer arrive at dawn and ply the deep holes in the middle of the pond).
Rental of canoes, kayaks, sailboats, windsurfers, etc. is available and affordable in Wellfleet and Orleans, and
on-site at Gull Pond in Wellfleet.
Sports Fans:
Golfers should try Checquesset Neck and Highland Links golf courses in Wellfleet and Truro, respectively. Both offer spectacular water views.
The Cape Cod Baseball League features the nation's best college players and future major leaguers. Catch the Orleans Cardinals as they go up against teams from Dennis, Yarmouth, Chatham, etc. a couple of nights a week at Eldredge Field in Orleans. Rabid Red Sox and Yankee fans can savor the rivalry on the large screen TV's at Jimmie D's Sports Bar & Restaurant, a mile or two south on Rt. 6.
