Terry and Donna love living here at Stinson Beach. it is a most charming town. We surf and boogie board, kayak and hike and walk the beach daily. It is so much fun having our grandchildren visit. We feel so fortunate to have this wonderful beach home.
Donna Andrews purchased this house in 1999
For many years as my children were growing up, we would rent homes at Stinson Beach during the summer. I always said that some day I would like to live at Stinson.
My dream came true.I chose this home because of the size and location and charm!
Our location is ideal in that we are steps from the sand and a ten minute to the village either along the shore or the road. The views of the ocean are magnificent, and everyone loves our HOT TUB. Because this is our own home and not just a rental, we have all the special amenities for our guests.
The house was just a few steps from the beach. Every morning we at breakfast from the deck of the master bedroom -- the views were spectacular. As mentioned in a few other reviews, the section of Highway 1 from Mill Valley to Stinson Beach is very steep and curvy. It is a good idea to plan excursions to limit needless trips up/down the mountain. Definite worthwhile visits are a day in SanFrancisco as well as Muir woods.
Donna, the owner, was very helpful at answering all my questions before our arrival as well as assisting with the wifi connection the first day. I would definitely recommend both the location and house for a nice beach retreat.
I choose this place for its proximity to the Miwok 100k ultra trail race. It was definitely the right choice. It was literally less than a 10 minute walk from the start of the race. ( twice that long walking back after running 62 miles! ) I loved being so close to the beach, only one house away, and the home itself is very clean and comfortable. I loved having my breakfast every morning on the roof deck, looking out over the ocean. And the hot tub surely came in handy after the race, as did the ocean. Stinson Beach is a lovely place, matched only by the drive to get there. Donna was extremely friendly, responsive and helpful. The home itself met my expectations as advertised. My deposit was refunded in a timely fashion as promised. I hope to return for another stay someday.
The location was very close to the beach and had all the necessary amenities to make it very comfortable. The owners were great at making sure we had everything we needed. The Parkside restaurant was great and about .25 mile walk from the house down the beach. This would be great for either a couple or a couple with older children. Definitely great if you want to spend most of your time on the beach.
As of 9/21, we still have not received our deposit refund. We have attempted to resolve this issue but so far nothing. This lack of timeliness has reduced our rating from 5 stars to 3 stars. Our family of four stayed here in mid August (August 17-26). It is a very nice place and just as advertised on VRBO. We had a great time at the beach and on the rooftop watching the sunset each evening. We had a little trouble getting the wi-fi going but Donna was very quick to respond and help out. It's a quiet neighborhood and the beach out front is the dog beach. From the house you would not know it's a dog beach as its very quiet. The only and best noise we heard were crashing waves at night. There were dogs on the beach each day but the dogs and their owners were very friendly. The beach did close for swimming as there was a shark sighting when we were there. A baby fin whale also washed up on shore which brought the news and lots of people out. A few things to consider (these are not complaints just things to be aware of ) 1. The road to reach Stinson Beach is a long and winding road. If car sickness is an issue, you will need meds. 2. Stop for groceries in town there is only one store in Stinson and it closes at 8pm (there is Safeway right before you head into Stinson). 3. The kids room has a door that leads outside. If you are concerned about your kids having that kind of access then you may want them to sleep upstairs. 4. Plan your excursions to maximize your day outside of Stinson because of the long and winding road. 5. Best way to reach Parkside Cafe is by walking the beach. Its a great place but parking can limited. 6. Eat at Parkside and Sand Dollar both offer great food. 7. If you head out to PT Reyes lighthouse, stop in the town on your way back. It was a nice small town to visit.
Everything was just as 'advertised' on VRBO and Donna followed up once we arrived to be sure all was going well. From the front gate literally 12 steps to the sand and very nice views from the upper deck where we had morning coffee, beach viewing and dinner one night.
It also seems that Stinson is just north of the San Francisco fog line so we had some early morning fog rolling thru but by mid morning thru evening the it was all sun!
I would highly recommend Donna and Terry's place. My 4 1/2 year old loved the hot tub, proximity to the beach and park (next to the Parkside Cafe), and the friendliness of the people. I would definitely stay here again. It was a peaceful and serene getaway. Thank you Donna and Terry.
