Our chalet overlooks the entire central valley between Pu'u Kukui on West Maui, and Haleakala. Enjoy spectacular views of both south and north shores, with azure oceans and far off horizons. The sound of native birds enjoying the trees on the property are the only things that break the silence.
Inside, the chalet is fully carpeted. The kitchen provides complete amenities for stay-at-home meals, which you can enjoy outside on the lanai, or inside at a dining table. A full compliment of reading material and Hawaiian literature give you good reason to put your feet up, soak in the cool mountain air, and watch the sunsets, which are always better than expected.
You will be perfectly situated to enjoy nearby enticements, including hiking on country roads. Grandma's Coffee House is 5 min. away. They're famous for their home-baked morning goodies and coffee. You're just 15 minutes from the the Ulupalakua winery and tasting tours, 20 minutes from Makawao (shopping and restaurants) and 30 minutes from Baldwin beach on the north shore. And of course, when you are ready to experience Haleakala's magnificent crater and volcano hikes, you're an hour away.
We hope you will consider our chalet not so much your vacation rental as your home on Maui while you enjoy your stay. Staying with us, you will truly discover why Maui is No Ka Oi - Maui is the best!
We LOVED this place! Even though we've lived on Maui for decades, we forgot just how beautiful this part of the island is. The house was perfect. During the day it's bright and cheerful with spectacular panoramic views. At night, you can watch the stars from the huge lanai or cuddle up inside where it's comfy-cozy. The kitchen is fully equipped, the bathroom clean and spacious. Quality towels and bedding were a plus. Comfortable beds meant a good night's sleep and we were up and ready for adventure each day. We explored Sun Yat Sen Park, drove to the winery, took a million photos, ate breakfast at Grandma's, walked up Thompson Road, took a million more photos, had dinner at Kula Bistro. And, we still had lots of time to relax at the house and just enjoy being upcountry. Whether you're visiting from the mainland or like us, looking for a "stay-cation" you couldn't pick a better place for your home-away-from home. We can't wait to return.
We had a lovely one-week stay in this cottage in early September. What a view! I wish we’d had another week to enjoy all the stunning sunsets from the chalet deck.
The cottage is lovely – simple and really clean, and exactly as it looks in the photos. The kitchen is well-equipped and there are plenty of fresh towels, laundry facilities and every extra thing you might need.
This was a great spot for an early start to see the sunrise from Haleakalea, and there were even some warm jackets we could borrow for the adventure. We also took a ‘plate to table’ tour at O’o farm, which is just down the road, and can’t recommend it highly enough.
Wilma is very helpful and we really hope we’ll be back again. Bring all your food, wine and whatever you might need for your stay – you won’t want to leave!
This property was exactly as described and even better! We loved our short stay here, wish it could have been longer. The home is clean and comfortable. Wilma is friendly, helpful and gracious. Thank you for a fabulous place to enjoy Maui.
Our recent stay at this cozy little chalet cottage was awesome but only because we wanted for nothing. Wilma has provided everything we needed including her expert advice on what to see, where to eat, and we just had several wonderful conversations which made us feel like family. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay a few more days here. The bed was so comfortable, the views from the deck were spectacular, loved having laundry facilities and wifi, and loved the privacy and quiet. Everything was very clean as well and it was nice to have the heater to take the chill out in the morning. Great sleeping weather upcountry. Wilma, you and your property rock!
My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights. The wonderful manager Wilma phoned us to say we shouldn't hurry about leaving because no renter was expected that day.
We found the house more than ample. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen well-equipped, the living/dining room comfortable, everything clean and well-maintained. There were some other houses on the very steep driveway but we enjoyed privacy and quiet. At 3,500 feet the house got chilly, so we made use of the additional heaters thoughtfully provided. My sole quibble: I wish there was a bureau. The absence of any drawers meant we lived out of suitcases, which was inconvenient and messy.
We used the house as our base for exploring the Upcountry. Our day at the top of Haleakala was clear, but the ranger told us that the volcano is often socked in. I'd suggest you check on visibility before setting out on an arduous drive. Bring warm clothes -- it can be cold and windy at 10,000 feet.
We explored the movie-set town of Makawao. I'd advise going any day but Sunday if you wish to sample the Komoda Bakery, much recommended by travelers. We hiked in a state forest preserve in Olinda, just south of Makawao. Another reason for not visiting on Sunday (or Saturday) is that on weekends the forest is crawling with riflemen hunting wild pigs and goats. We finished up the day at Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center.
It rained heavily one day, which scotched hikes in the Polipoli Springs State Recreation Area. We appreciated how nice the house was to be in during the storm. When the rain let up we walked from the house into a ranch, then treated ourselves to good, reasonably priced dinner at the Bistro in Kula.
What a lovely surprise! The cottage was so private and romantic for us. Super clean and with a very comfortable bed .We had everything we could need with great views that changed through out the day and night. We felt this was a very good value on all counts. Most of all the cool sleeping weather was wonderful after beach time at sea level.. Can't wait to return to this most private cottage..
Alii Kula Lavender Farm is beautiful. Don't miss their yummy scones!
Ulupalakua Winery is 5 miles away. Their General Store across the street serves the best lunches!
