This is a beautiful villa, very well laid out and furnished to a very high standard. It is located in the Praia del Rey resort 5 minutes walk from the Marriot hotel and 10 minutes to the Golf Club, both useful places to eat. The day we arrived was bright blue skies and Force 8 gales. The view from the villa was spectacular. The rolling waves breaking on the coastline were amazing. Given the wind I was surprised that it was still possible to sit out by the pool but this was down to the thoughtful layout of the property, one wing of the villa providing shelter from the prevailing wind, creating a real sun trap.
The facilities at the villa are excellent - all you would expect and more. I was particularly appreciative of the pool toys and equipment as we travelled with two five year olds who spent a lot of time in the pool. The kickboards and body boards provided kept them entertained for hours.
As I mentioned this villa has been laid out very well. The kitchen/family room was the hub for us during the day. It is possible to keep an eye on the children in the pool/garden from the kitchen. There is the option of having a pool fence around the pool. We choose to have this and it gave us great peace of mind.
The Drawing Room is a lovely room for relaxing in particularly once the children had gone to bed - a very adult space. As we were there end of March it was nice to light a fire and relax.
All the bedrooms are en-suite with two on the first floor and three on the ground floor. This arrangement is good particularly if, as in our case, two families travel together.
Praia del Rei is a very good base with lots of options to chose from - a visit to the walled town of Obidos was really interesting, enough to entertain without being too touristy. Lisbon is within easy driving distance and we spent a day at the Oceanarium and waterfront parks. Obviously there is golf, which we didn't avail of this time, but the clubs provided at the villa did make us think twice. I gather the courses are challenging as is the way with links perched on an Atlantic coastline.
The fact file provided by the villa owners was a mine of information and we took some of their recommendations particularly a restaurant Mae d'Agua which we visited twice. Plenty of vineyards to visit also.
All in all a very beautiful villa very well situated and kitted out to a very high standard. One we would definitely consider returning to.
The villa was lovely. Big, airy, spacious. Swimming pool area very nice - sun and shade. Plenty of cutlery, crockery. Nicely heated when the weather changed. We had a good time. Not much was open on the estate, it was still early in the year, but local towns nearby provide lots to see and places to eat.
This villa is truly fantastic and did not disappoint in any way. Location, specification, layout, decor and facilities second to none. The villa has a huge amount of living space and a very large pool with well maintained gardens. Cannot recommend highly enough - we hope to visit again soon.
We travelled to the villa with 2 teenage girls younger brother and granny. The spacious layout was perfect and we were all very comfortable. The large pool and beautiful outdoor area were a big hit. The villa was immaculate and I would not hesitate to recommend it. The journey from the airport is so easy and so much to do nearby. My children loved the surfing beaches and had lessons. We also walked to the nearby beach and enjoyed the facilities of the Marriott hotel. My mother enjoyed visiting the heritage sites - again within easy reach.
This was our first trip to Portugal and the villa and the location way exceeded our expectations. The journey from Lisbon was quick and easy. The layout of the villa was perfect for 2 families sharing - we had loads of space and privacy and it is luxurious yet comfortable. We were preparing dinner for 9 and the kitchen was well up to it. The cleaners kept the villa immaculate every day. It can be difficult to entertain teenagers but ours just loved the surfing at Peniche - with a championship beach and all the Aussies it was very cool. They had excellent lessons. They also enjoyed the tennis in the resort and the beach near to the villa. We loved the convenience of the hotel when we did not feel like cooking. The big outdoor area and pool was brilliant for quiet afternoons. We will definitely return.
Whow! What a great time we had on our first trip to Portugal. The villa was wonderful, plenty of room for the 6 of us. Beautifully furnished...we felt like we were in a 5 star hotel. Everything you could possibly need was supplied in the kitchen (I love to cook.) The back of the villa by the pool is quite secluded and we probably spent 90% of our time there. Loved walking down to the beach most mornings before it got too hot. The hotel is close by and even though we ate at the villa most days, we did have dinner there once and it was very good. my husband and I would both recommend staying....his only regret was not bringing his golf clubs with him, oh well, next time.
Our Villa is in a quiet Cul de sac in Praia D'El Rey a 600 acre resort located close to the medieval town of Óbidos on Portugal's unspoilt west coast and within less than one hours drive from Lisbon International Airport.

Also within Praia D'El Rey is a brand new 5 star Marriott hotel with restaurants, bar, health club with gym, kids club, spa, indoor and outdoor pools and a business centre and is only a 3 minute walk. The natural attractions of the Atlantic setting include great surfing and the clear waters around the dramatic Berlengas Islands make this one of the best diving locations in Portugal.
Other Activities: Go Karting
Golf: Respected American golf architect, Cabell B. Robinson, viewed being asked to design the 18 hole par 72 championship Praia D'El Rey golf course as the opportunity of a lifetime.
'This is the kind of landscape we architects try to create, but at Praia D'El Rey it's all here, naturally. Now it's my responsibility to protect it', he says modestly.
It is certainly one of the most picturesque layouts in Europe, set in extensive grounds of pine forest and undulating dunes with spectacular views over the Atlantic and the Berlenga Islands beyond. The course is visually stunning and tremendously exciting to play. Because of the endless variations of the terrain you'll never play it the same.
Cabell has designed the course to be the complete golfing challenge with bold deep bunkers, undulating greens, and natural sand border areas contrasting sharply with the lush green fairways.
Cabell feels very strongly that the course must be fun for everyone to play. Praia D'El Rey, rated 13th best course in Europe by Golf World magazine, has become one of the major golfing destinations in Europe. Not surprisingly, Praia D'El Rey has become a favourite destination for both private and sponsored events.
2004/2005 - Golf World - Ranked 13th in Continental Europe, 2004 - Homes Overseas Awards - Best Golf Development, 2002/2003 - Golf World - Ranked 13th in Continental Europe, Peugeot Golf Guide - Ranked 1st in Portugal, (IAGTO) voted the Lisbon Golf Coast as the 'Best Established Golfing Destin.
