Are you interested in a clean, spacious (seems larger than it is), isolated cabin in the woods? Would you like to get away from it all, have plenty to do and see, and not spend your life savings in the process?
Our 12-year-old played ping-pong, foosball, climbed the mountain and stayed thouroughly entertained downstairs with movies etc while “Mom” and I just relaxed on the screened porch upstairs. A gorgeous view, casual comfortable décor, and enough variety in nearby areas to keep you busy for years.
Frankly, if you’re into the hoyti toyti, personal concierge, and/or where’s the party, kind of place – I think you’ll be disappointed.
On the other hand if you’re interested in getting away, feeling comfortable in your surroundings, and having everything you could reasonably need or want from a cabin in the mountains – may we recommend Mountainview Escape.
We had a wonderful stay at this cabin and our vacation was everything we wanted it to be. We did the 5 R's: rest, relax, recooperate, rejuvenate, reconnect AND had fun. There are 2 guest books full of suggestions from other visitors and 2 resource books (restaurants and things to do/see) that the owners put together which were very helpful. If you look through them the first day/night you are there, you will have all the info you need on wherever you want to go and whatever you want to do. You will probably end up with a few more fun things on your list as well! The Smokey Mtn Visitor's center is just up the road as well if you need more info. The waterfalls are spectacular and there are many hikes as well. There is fresh produce and a creamery just down the road. You have it all here. A great view, rocking chairs on a screened in porch (no bugs), the hot tub, a game room, board games, charcoal grill for the BEST dinners, peace and quiet. Because it is on top of a hill (that's why the awesome view) be prepared to put it in low gear to climb the hill. Everything in the cabin worked and we didn't have any issues. Beds were comfy, dishwasher, washer/dryer and just about every thing you need in the kitchen is provided. Wi-fii was great so we could check in and post pictures at the end of the day. Vickie (the property manager) was very helpful. We had a beautiful sunrise and sunset and the Autumn colors are just beginning. The deck is unique and you can tell this cabin has been a labor of love over the years.
There were five of us staying and we had more than enough space for all of us. The cabin was just as described and one day we just never left. We had a wonderful stay here. Cozy but spacey. We had nothing but nice things to say on our stay here, and would highly reccomend anyone to rent this awesome little home away from home. peaceful, pretty, close to grocery to stock up the cupboards. Not a bad road in the county to sight see the mountains. what a wonderful vacation. Thank you!
The two best things about my stay were the house location and the view. And honestly that's why we were there. It was close to several great hiking areas and cute small towns. And it was peaceful, even though the state road isn't too far away. The views are beautiful. And the price was great compared to other cabins in the area. Our phones didn't work, but the WiFi did, and sitting on the porch reading on our tablets was relaxing.
But stuff is falling apart at this house. If things like the outdoor hot tub and fireplace both being broken and unusable during your entire week will put you off, then this is not the place for you. There were repairmen at the house several times, but they couldn't fix either thing for us. However, they did take care of cutting up the giant tree that fell across the driveway and blocked us in, and they were very friendly and easy to talk with.
The location is beautiful, and there are lots of things to do nearby if you want to do stuff. We mostly just sat on the porch reading and appreciating nature. But we also found some really good restaurants and specialty stores within a few short drives. The closest Mexican restaurant to the South was great! So all in all our visit was enjoyable, but if you can't handle a few bumps in the road...
What a treasure!
Joel, if you ever want to sell, we are interested!
What a peaceful, calming home.
This is our second time renting Mountain View Escape, and this time just the two of us.The kids stayed home.
We were there in October of 2011 and it is better!
The heating and cooling and internet was a great improvement.
We hope to rent again next year, with the kids, on our way to England/ Ireland/Scotland.
This will be a 3 week fishing trip, that we have been planning since Nov 2011 AND it has to include this home.
We love and live in Fairbanks, Alaska.....BUT Love this home!
It has to be in our trip, we only get out of the state once every year or two.
Joel, let us know when you are ready to sell.
We would continue to make it a blessing for others to enjoy.

Oh....And don't forget the Dilliard House!
Our family are from this county in North Carolina. So, it was nice to visit family from such a peaceful, quiet and secluded home. The hottub was relaxing, the ping pong table provided laughter and the screen porch was meant for viewing the beauty around. Our trip was in October of 2011 and the leaves were as we remembered. Wish we could have stayed longer! Eat at the Dilliard House, just 7 miles south and our favorite restaurant when we lived here before. See Wayah Bald, 23 miles NW. Cherokee, Cades Cove and Pigeon Forge are great too.
Rent this house and you will be very pleased!!!!
There is plenty to entertain the kids downstairs with ping-pong, foosball, darts, and games. Outdoors, you can relax in the spa or if you are more adventurous, try hiking up to the top of the ridge behind the cabin where the property borders the U.S. Forest Service property. Don't be surprised by the wildlife you may encounter, such as the wild turkey, deer and fox.
Looking for something to do in the area? How about white water rafting on one of three nearby rivers, do a little gem mining, golfing in the mountains is awesome, or take a scenic train ride through a mountain gorge? Perhaps get a map, explore a little and go on a self-guided waterfall tour.
Or why not spend a lazy afternoon on an inner tube floating down the Little Tennessee River, or for a wild inner tube ride, try the shoals of Deep Creek in nearby Bryson City? Visit the Cherokee Indian Reservation and experience a moving performance of 'Unto These Hills, performed live in their outdoor amphitheatre.
Other Activities: gem-mining, waterfalls, hiking, relaxing!
Golf: Several great mountain golf courses nearby
