Best Vacation Ever

The Gribik's Harrisburg, PA
Review Submitted: September 23, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
I cannot say enough about this property - the house, the yard, the beach, and the nearby communities, parks and trails made our stay there the best vacation we've ever had. We are already planning to return as soon as possible! The views from the immaculate house are breath-taking. The beach is beautiful and so much is accessible right out the door. Jonesport and nearby towns are welcoming and hospitable too (and pet-friendly) - all the art and antique shops could keep anyone busy. There are so many activities close by - especially for hikers, kayakers, nature lovers and bird watchers. We cannot wait to return - many thanks to the owners for sharing this piece of heaven!

Wonderful vacation spot

AggyD Salem, NY
Review Submitted: August 17, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We fell in love with this place! The sunrises were unbelievable and I couldn't stop photographing them each morning! Even on cloudy mornings, it was astounding. The sunsets on the other side of the house were equally impressive. We watched the lobstermen harvest our dinner for that evening; we rented kayaks and paddled around the islands; we made several easy daytrips, including one to Campobello in Canada; we visited the West Quoddy lighthouse and Roque Bluffs; we walked the beautiful beach at low tide, including the sand bar that we named 'Seagull Bar' because there were so many seagulls on it; we hiked on Great Wass Island; and we relaxed in the peace and quiet! The house itself is great - there is not a single thing missing - more than enough dishes, silverware, lobster pot, baking pans, crockpots (!), books (I brought books with me but found I was reading the ones on the shelf instead!), games - you name it - it was there, including extra sheets for each bed, plenty of towels, and a washer and dryer! Also, plenty of information on the area and things to do if you can drag yourself away from the incredible view right in your backyard. Impeccably clean and neat and impressive from the moment we opened the front door. I would absolutely recommend this property to anyone who loves nature and is interested in experiencing the "real Maine." There are a couple of towns close by where you can buy groceries or go out to eat (you must try Helen's in Machias for their homemade blueberry pie - mmmmmm!), but if you're interested in a lot of action, this is not the place. However, it's not desolate either. There are neighbors on both sides and all along the road, but we only met up with one person on the beach. Not a good road on which to ride bicycles, but there are areas around where you can go. Still, it would be better to bring kayaks rather than bicycles if you have to make a choice. Very friendly area - I can't say enough good things about it. I hope we can go back. Our party consisted of six adults and one small child - plenty of room and plenty of "alone" space. The design of the house really monopolizes on the view - sliding glass doors in two of the bedrooms, large windows in the "bunkroom," a large window that you can see through from the loft bedroom, and nothing but windows in the great room. We didn't want to leave!

What a view to wake up to.

ScottL Ottawa,Ontario,Canada
Review Submitted: July 29, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Walking into the house on day one was great. Except for the kids arguing over which bed they got, every room had a great view of the Englishmans Bay. You do get use to waking up to the sunrise every morning. The house was a great size for two families consisting of 5 young boys ranging from 9 to 12 years old. The kids could be playing in the loft at one end of the house and you relaxing looking at the great view the lobster boats in the bay and you could not hear the kids. The house was very clean and well maintained (wished my house was that well organized). It also did not have too much stuff sitting around that you would be afraid of your kids breaking. Lost of space outside for the kids to run around and the neighbors are not too close (I only saw them on day over the whole week). There where blue berries all around the back yard while you walked down to the stairs to get you to the beach. The beach consisted of some small sandy areas and lots of small rocks, great for skipping. During low tide you could easily walk for a couple miles. Only saw three other people on the beach all week. Its a very quiet area. If you had a kayak there would be some islands to explore.

The drive to Bar Harbour is around an hour and a half. It was a great spot to visit. Lots to see and do there.

Our host was excellent at providing all the information that we needed. Any question was always answered with lots of detail.

If your looking for a place to get away for a week and just relax away from the hustle and bustle, this is a great spot. Its away from the tourist areas, but still close enough for day trips. Very quiet area and great house on the coast.

The coast of Maine begins after Ellsworth!

JohnnyP Ashby, MA
Review Submitted: July 24, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Just spent a week at this colossal site! It's on a 2 mile stretch of beach (including the two sandbars) and we saw two people in 8 days. We love Jonesport and come there every few years but this location is the best. Away from the Jonesport/Beals fog when there's a southerly wind (for the most part), dripping with blueberries. The kayaking is superb. Debbie and Stu's directions are top notch. If you're looking for shopping, go to Bar Harbor with all the tourists from the northeast who can't relax but if you're looking for nirvana, the Coast of Maine begins after Ellsworth and these guys have it licked. This house would rent for $5,000 to $10,000 a week if it were in Long Island or Cape Cod or southern Maine. Nice! We'll be back. No question.
