We had so many little issues happen during out two week stay but, I was trying to chalk them up to Murphy's Law and wanted to give the owner the benefit of the doubt. However, after 3 1/2 months, a bounced check and no return communication from the owner, I do not believe we are going to get our security deposit back. The house was ok. There are not five separate bedrooms. The fifth queen bed is in the downstairs living room area --so there isn't any privacy for that area but, it is extra sleeping area. We had to use Drano almost every day in the downstairs tub because it just drained incredibly slow and we had multiple people trying to take showers after the beach and it got messy fast. Two different times we had coolers (full) stolen from the back deck. Both times while we were in the house. This is not the owners fault but, it was unsettling. There were two days of rain and the back yard flooded and it made it just disgusting to get to the garbage area to throw away trash. Not to mention it was days before the kids could play in the backyard. The owner attributed this to the new paved driveway that was not properly graded. There were other smaller issues but, the real issue came when National Grid showed up and demanded payment for a utility bill from April. I explained we were just renting and tried to get a hold of the owner but, couldn't. National Grid said pay the bill right then or they were going to turn off the electricity. They would only accept a check. Once shut off, the only way to get it back on was to go the the utility companies office, in another town and pay them and then it would take 48 hours to turn back on. I had a house full of people. So I paid the bill and left multiple message for the out of town owner. Two days later he called me and said he would reimburse me the $200 plus bill! I cleaned the house well, washed all the sheets and towels and remade beds and also hired the owner's cleaning woman to finish the job. After six weeks and no security deposit refund or utility bill reimbursement, I contacted the owner who said he had mailed the check weeks ago. I waited another two weeks and the check finally showed up. It bounced. I tried contacting the owner multiple times regarding the check and he has not responded. As of the date of this review I have not heard from him. I would not recommend this house to other renters.
