RELAXING COMFORT

  • 5 of 5
We stayed here over the holiday weekend with 2 kids (a teen and a tween) and our dog and what a great stay it was! So quiet and secluded and the view over the Sound was so nice. The kitchen was beautiful and very well appointed. We even used the cappucino machine! Everything worked out great and April was great to deal with! We will most certainly be back in the future!

GREAT STAY

  • 5 of 5
I stayed here by myself and loved the location because of the proximity to Langley. The house was VERY clean with great amenities. I did not use the patio as it was pretty chilly and I spent my days walking the beach or island trails. But the mornings provided a great view of the mountains and the water. I will definitely come here again!

PERFECT ISLAND GET-A-WAY!

  • 5 of 5
We loved the Mai Thai. The setting was great; up on the bluff so that we had a view, but close enough to the water that we could walk to the beach. The house was beautifully furnished, clean and well equipped with every thing we could have asked for. Our longer stay allowed us the luxury of a couple nights staying in, cozy by the fireplace after grilling steaks on the upscale grill on the deck or cooking on the Wolf range, and a couple nights going into Langley for dinner. Prima Bistro and Mo's Pub, though very different from each other, were both great. We had fun exploring and relaxing and can't wait to return!

LOVELY SPOT FOR A TWO-GENERATION FAMILY GET-AWAY

  • 4 of 5
The house was very comfortable and well laid-out. It was well-stocked and very clean. The kitchen was easy to use. Having two bathrooms for two couples was a great advantage. There were many thoughtful amenities included (washer and dryer, DVDs, etc.). The views were wonderful and the eagles and deer were a treat.
What would have made it even better?
The beach access was virtually non-existent, with sign after sign saying that the beaches within walking distance of the cottage were private - no trespassing! We did eventually find a public access beach within walking distance of the cottage, but it was literally a 20 feet wide band of sand with signs warning not to trespass to the right or left. We were disappointed as we had understood that we would have beach access five minutes from the cottage. We did a lot of research on our own and found public access beaches that we could drive to, such as Double Bluff Beach (which was lovely). Including in the binder a map of all the public access beaches in the area would have been very helpful.
The hand-held shower in the jet-spray tub upstairs was not functional. That was disappointing.
The TV faced the door to the patio and couldn't be watched from the couch. Who wants to have to move furniture around to watch the nice selection of DVDs?
It rained at night and that left the cushions on the patio too wet to sit on the next day. We started bringing them in at night and putting them around the living room, but that meant they were in the way of evening activities. Maybe a box to hold the cushions when not in use could be added to the patio.
Last of all, we followed all the lists of expectations of clean-up, bed-stripping, etc. for our departure (much more than at most B&Bs) but we were not able to put away the dishes from the dishwasher. We had to catch an early ferry back to the city; we put all the evening and morning dishes in the dishwasher and ran it before we left in the morning. We couldn't wait for the cycle to complete before taking off. It didn't seem like a big deal for the housekeeper to put away the clean dishes.
Prima Bistro in town was great. We enjoyed the arts and crafts festival in Coupeville and also a sail out of Coupeville.
Overall, this was a very nice place to stay!

Owner's Response: Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and we are glad that you enjoyed your time on Whidbey. While some of the nearby beaches are private, the county has recently installed signs pointing the way to the public-access beach nearby, and we have now placed a detailed map in the binder. That beach is indeed narrow when the tide is up, but when the tide goes out it is quite wide. We do also have available for our guests a copy of the book "Finding the Water's Edge," which gives detailed information about public-access beaches all over Whidbey Island. The wooden box on the deck near the windows is for storing the cushions, or if you prefer they can be stored in the closet by the front door. Lowering the blinds on the French doors can help reduce the reflection on the TV.

THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS

  • 5 of 5
This is an amazing spot – heaven on earth. To wake up in the morning and sit on the deck with spectacular views of the waters, the snow capped mountains in the distance, and a nest of bald eagles nearby is a real treat! The house is well equipped - there is a great coffee machine for coffee lovers and many books on the area and beyond for bookworms (as we happen to be). The interior design is both elegant and cozy so that you immediately feel at home. We had a great time cooking, reading and just being there. Beyond the house, Whidbey Island has so much to offer: we had memorable walks in Ebey's Landing (if you have time for one trail – this is the ultimate one) and in the lovely picturesque towns of Langley and Coupeville, where one can find first rate restaurants and cafes. In short, it was the best of all worlds – we can't wait to return -
