Bordering the National Forest in sunny West Vail, Alpine View is a three bedroom, three and a half bath European-style home, custom built in 1980 with Old World craftsmanship. The great room has a cathedral ceiling and large expanses of glass for viewing the spectacular scenery, a gas fireplace and comfortable seating for reading, listening to stereo and watching movies on the 50' HDTV or DVD. An I-pod docking station is available.
Off the great room is a cozy octagonal room with a table for dining or playing cards. The glass walls and ceiling offer fantastic views of the Gore Range and the south side of the Vail Valley. Sliding doors open from the Great Room to extensive outdoor space that includes a veranda with a gas grill and a gazebo, along with another area that seats eight to ten people. These are perfect places for sipping a favorite beverage and enjoying the dramatic views that surround this idyllic site.
The home has a dining room that seats six, the octagonal room that seats five and a breakfast bar that seats three. A wet bar is well-placed for entertaining.
The fully equipped kitchen includes both gas and electric stoves, oven, microwave and dishwasher. A breakfast bar overlooks the kitchen, and a wet bar is available in the hall for entertaining. Off the hallway is the game room with exercise equipment and a ping pong table, along with seating so people can watch the game.
Downstairs in a private office are a PC computer with internet service, wireless, FAX, scanner and printer. Next to office is the laundry room with washer and dryer.
The master bedroom has a king bed, a gas fireplace, HDTV and a large en-suite bath that also includes an indoor hot tub to enjoy after a long day of skiing. (The hot tub will be unavailable in summer, because it heats up the house too much.) On the same level is a second bedroom with a queen bed, HDTV and wet bar with refrigerator. The bath has a tub/shower combination.
The sunroom is off this bedroom and connects to a sauna.
A third floor suite includes a third bedroom with a queen bed and HDTV and opens onto a deck that overlooks the National Forest. The bath has a tub/shower combination. This bedroom is next to a loft sitting room with a queen sleep sofa and a cubby area owith a kingsize mattress that children like very much.
The attached garage on the left side of the driveway has room for one car, and a second car may be parked behind it and will be mostly sheltered from falling snow. In the winter, four-wheel drive vehicles are necessary to handle the snow, as Alpine View is high on the hill.
This fabulous mountain escape is half to three quarters of a mile to the bus stop on Chamonix Lane. The hike back up the hill from the bus is difficult for people who have been living at sea level, especially in winter.
