Approximately 35 minutes to the north is the town of Digby with its world famous scallop fleet. Digby has an excellent assortment of waterfront restaurants and shops. Just south of Digby is the entrance to a long stretch of shore and islands known as Digby Neck. Route 217 runs between the Bay of Fundy on one side and the waters of St. Mary's Bay on the other. The road winds through fishing villages and countryside and will require some short ferry crossings. The ferry's run hourly 24 hours a day and are themselves worth the trip. On your way down don't miss Balancing Rock. A half hour hike takes you to the shore and the rock that seems to defy the laws of gravity. The final ferry brings you to Brier's Island an ecological treasure. Some of the best whale watching in the world can be found in the waters surrounding Brier Island.
