Beautiful Manor House, with 400m2, very private, also extremely well located for excursions both up and down the Costa Verde being about 120km from Spain and 20km from Oporto. If you like dinning beside the River Douro at Ribeira, 20 minutes it's how long it takes once you get use to the roads. Outside there is a 10 x 5m swimming pool, toilet, shower and a large covered sitting area, which is useful during peak sun hours where you can enjoy your meals and watch the kids in the pool. If you prefer the beach, Praia D'AREIA is only 2km down the road where you also find small shops. Restaurants, supermarkets and all amenities are available 5km in the town of Vila do Conde, including the famous 'MARKET' on Fridays. The grounds with 10000m2 are ideal and safe for children to run around. There are also orange, lemon, kiwi and passion fruit trees in the garden from which, subject to season, you can help yourselves to and make delicious cocktails, smothies or juices, blender provided.

Additional information about rental rates

  • One cleaning per week, house linen. A refundable damage deposit of 500 euros would be necessary. Booking conditions: 30% reservation, balance should be paid 10 weeks before arrival. The full payment is required for bookings made at less than 60 days. Central heating is charged at 150€ PW on winter months or when people want to use it and a basket of logs for the fire place could be provided at 25€.
    The bicycles are for renting to clients at €25 each per week, you must request this on your booking.
  • If you would like the maid to come more times that could be arranged at your expense.

Review of Refugio - memorable vacation!

In case you ever wanted to get to know Northern Portugal, particularly for families or 4/5 couples together, I would strongly recommend this property. In my family we have developed a tradition, along the years, of renting large properties and getting all the kids together and this year we stayed at "O Refugio" which we would easily rate as one of the best. The house is very spacious and the garden and grounds are massive with a big pool.

The outdoor space also has a table tennis and table football (we developed our own minor league championship!) as well as bbq and plenty of seating for all. We had a fabulous time and the support from the owner (living in the UK) and her mother (local contact point) was excellent too.

Only minus point is the narrowness of the bed which otherwise would have made the holiday A++ !!

Owner's Response: Please note that just one bed is narrow all the other beds are normal double and single beds.

Wonderfull 5 days

From October 25th till October 30th my wife, my 3 children, my 2 grandchildren, a friend and myself stayed at the villa. We were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome we got.
The house has many large rooms and bedrooms an the kitchen is very well equipped.
We also took fresh oranges from the trees in the garden and made very sweet orange juice.
Although the temperature was very good (up to 26 degrees Celsius), the water in the swimming pool was too cold (October), but we used the chairs to relax by the pool.
The sea is nearby (3 kilometers) and we went there frequently.
Some of us went to Porto by subway to have a nice day.
We can recommend the villa to everyone with a party up to 10 people.

This was our second time at this villa and can trully reccomend it to everyone. The house is spectacular along with the grounds which had an abundance of trees laden with friut that can be picked.
The rooms are large and even with 10 people you can easily find a quiet place to sit and read a book in peace.
The kids loved the pool which was a nice size and everyone loved the barbyque and table tennis table.
The other advantage is it is easily a 15 minute journey from the airport and a few minutes drive from the beach. Porto and the surrounding areas are good to explore and the Port cellars are a must to visit. Will look to visit again.

5 Swiss Girls used this amazing house to spend their summer vacations there.
We had a terrific time, sunshine all day, relaxing at the pool, barbecue at night and sometimes we went to the close beach - FANTASTIC!
I took fresh oranges and lemons from the trees each morning to squeeze them and bring the juice to my girlies. The table soccer and ping pong table brought plenty of laughs... and the birds woke us up in the mornings:)!

Relaxing Break

Our stay over Easter 2008 was sensational. The house easily accommodated our group of 10 people, and provided a relaxing environment with the expansive garden and pool area.

It is close to some cafe's / shops and a very short drive in Villa De Conde.

Thanks to Jaou (excuse spelling) for being our surf advisor / chef / translator / taxi at certain times over the weekend. It was greatly appreciated.
