Saint-Ay Castle Rental Photos and Description

4 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms Sleep 8 adults (+ 1 cot)

Get in Chateau life: imagine a real French manor house by the river Loire. Spectacular and scenery property. Near Orleans, 80 minutes from Paris, central France. This classical 16th to 18th century manor lies besides the Loire River in 100,000 SQM of lovely park and gardens on the outskirts of a village, 15 kms from Orleans, close to several of the great Renaissance chateau of the Loire Valley. The interior is elegantly furnished with period furniture and paintings that have been handed down and collected over a period of many years and there is a marvelous sense of peace and continuity here. The manor has downstairs a large entrance hall and a huge, well furnished salon with a fireplace. There is a library with a grand piano, a dining room and a study with a smaller salon with doors opening on the terrace overlooking the river.

This fabulous and unique property is rented to a single family or a single party : not shared with anyone else .

Not a B & B : MINIMUM RENTAL : 1 week .

The kitchen is fully equipped with oven and hob, fridge/freezer, dishwater and microwave amongst other things, there is a washing machine ,and telephone. Downstairs there is also a WC and bathroom. Upstairs are four double bedrooms, one single bedroom, one bathroom, one shower room, WC's; The gardens are beautifully kept in the traditional style with avenues of topiary, lawns and shady centuries old trees. The terrace looks onto the River Loire: UNESCO World Heritage (and last untamed river in Europe). Very quiet, and peaceful property, no neighbours, except the housekeeper's property.

Close to the Manor ...: CHAMBORD CHATEAU iis one of the geatest displays of human vanity with its 440 cavernous, rooms and tower built for the king François 1er to visit, which neglected to include its own stairway ...The CHERVERY VINEYARDS ,are to the south of Chambord, and CHERVERNY CHATEAU has some magnificent paintings and a hunting museum .Further south is VALENCAY and its splendid formal gardens and another chance to taste the wine at local vineyards. Also many great CHATEAUX as BLOIS, CHAUMONT ( With a famous summer Garden Festival ), AMBOISE, CHENONCEAUX , LE CLOS LUCE ( where Leonardo da Vinci retired and died ) etc...Many attractive and typical villages on the banks of the RIVER LOIRE as Meung sur Loire, Beaugency, Saint Ay where the Manor is located, each with their own chateau, fresh market, etc.. and there are huge of other deep in the ORLEANS FOREST ...

La douceur de la vie

  • 5 of 5
A gorgeous house overlooking breathtaking gardens down to the Loire, with an unfailingly interesting panorama of bird life. Lavish provision of crockery, cutlery, glassware, linen, etc--way beyond normal for a rental house. All is comfortable, and living in the house is like a university course in architecture. Cathedrals & chateaux take a little driving but are all doable in day trips. The nearby supermarket has everything you need, down to huge artichokes and okay claret. The charming and intelligent gardiner is a special and unexpected plus.
The only downsides: the smell of dog in the drawing rooom and the ordinariness of the village, which of course you only see passing in and out of the walled grounds.

Owner's Response: We have now a much more efficient housekeeper in the Manor, so no more smell of dog in the drawing room ...
The village is a small village but typical of the villages along the River Loire, with nice houses and 18 th Century properties .The medieval village of Meung sur Loire is only 5 minutes driving and the beautiful Medieval city of Orleans 15 minutes driving ...

Chateau du Clos

  • 5 of 5
This is an extraordinary house in an enchanting location overlooking the river Loire.
As it is the house which the owner, Michel, normally lives in it is furnished to an exceptionally high standard, quite unlike the majority of holiday houses, full of art and antiques and masses of chandeliers. Michel, if he is around (he moves into a converted barn when guests are staying) is very gracious and helpful. The grounds are well maintained and sitting on the terrace in the evening watching the wildlife (not to mention hot air balloons!) on the river as the sun goes down is one of the chateau's great joys. There is no swimming pool but one can swim in the river (with care, the current is very strong) and renting canoes is simple. The local town of Meung is charming and many great chateaux are a short dive away. Highly recommended!

Wonderful Vacation in the Loire

  • 4 of 5
We rented for a month the wonderful manor of Chateau de l'Eveche in St. Ay. in the Loire Valley. Our family and friends descened on us for the month and all had nothing but glowing reports to say about their stay as well as the Chateau.

The manor/chateau itself was filled with wonderful antiuques collected by the owner who gave us the full use of all its contents.

The view from the back patio overlooking the Loire , was breathtaking, the grounds of the property were truly amazing , and most evenings after a visit to all the neighbouring grand chateau of the Loire would find us sitting on the patio sipping some of the local vintage and sampling the local produce.

The manor could not have been more ideally situated. We were about one and half hours drive from all major historical attractions. Not to mention only 15 kilometres from Orleans.
We found some amazing restaurants in the town of Beaugency which was only about 10 - 15 kilometres away, again all part of the fun of vacationing in France.
I would recommend this property for anyone visiting the great Chateau of the Loire because of its central location.
The owner Michael, has truly created a wonderful home and enjoys sharing it.

Charming small chateau besde the Loire

  • 5 of 5
" This was our third renting of L'Eveche, this wonderful inspiring small chateau with its terrace and gardens looking straight over the Loire. The autumn colours and views made marvellous subjects for us artists to paint but the real reason we keep coming back to this loved place is its interiors, with the tremendous Grand Salon with its huge dark oak fire place, warm and glowing in the autumn evening, the richness of the colours of the walls and fabrics, and the antiques and paintings.
Also the fact the owner leaves it feeling like a home and that he makes us feel so welcome.
All this is such a contrast to the usual renting places that are just furnished for letting.
Chateaude L'Eveche feels loved and we love staying there

A true 'Chateau Experience'

A true 'Chateau Experience'

We stayed at Michel's chateau last year - and it was one of our most memorable holidays. The place is extraordinary!
We had breakfast on the terrace every morning over looking the river Loire, and set the table with candles and crystal, linen and amazing crockery from the very well stocked cupboards.
There are a few Michelin starred restaurants close by ( 30-40min by car).
The property is very old - but it was very well maintained and Michel gave us a wonderful tour under ground thru the tunnels and passages under the chateau. He even put up an Australian flag to welcome us on our arrival!
Highly recommended!

Out of this world

  • 5 of 5
A fabulous and atmospheric manor house, full of charm and style. It's very special! We spent a wonderful Christmas there with our (adult) children and our dog - the house is extremely spacious and comfortable; there are lots of interesting daytime rooms and the bedrooms too are fascinating and individual. So it's very easy to find quiet places and to cater for different interests and moods. It feels as if you have been given the freedom of a very precious and loved ancestral home, which is why for us it was such an unforgettable experience.

The house does not in any way have the feel of a rental property. Michel, the owner, was discreet but welcoming; his motto that "the house is for living in" was genuine and visible everywhere. So nothing appears to be locked away. There is an abundance of beautiful glasses and tableware. All the rooms are full of unusual and interesting antiques, ornaments and pictures. There is no list of things that guests must do or not do! Overall, you feel that the whole rental process is based on trust and understanding.

You would definitely need a car to take full advantage of your stay here. With this proviso, there are many places of interest within easy reach, including the magnificent chateau at Chambord and, for fans of Tintin, the chateau at Cheverny. Orleans and Meung sur Loire are a short drive away. There are plenty of local shops, supermarkets and restaurants nearby, as well as a particularly good boulangerie within walking distance.

During our visit the weather was very crisp and cold, leading to some wonderful outdoor scenery - frozen fountains in the garden and spectacular skylines against the backdrop of the adjacent River Loire. Even in winter the formal gardens were stunning and, in warmer weather, they must be a delight. For us, though, our abiding memory of the manor will be the warmth of our welcome, log fires and candlelight, and the unique character and comfort of the house.

The village has a variety of shops and several restaurants including one particularly good one. Orleans 10 minutes away by car, has everything and more, and evidence of its link with the Maid of Orleans is everywhere; it is also the centre for the wine produced in the vineyards surrounding the city and there are several places where you can taste. The pleasures of Paris are little more than one hour from here (by car or direct trains from Orleans) Versailles Chateau is also 1 hour away. There are 3 golf courses within a radius of 15 kms, one at La Ferte Saint Aubin, another is the famous Baron BIC course at Les Bordes, 25 kms away. You can take balloon flights and see some of the countryside and hidden chateaux from the air, or hire caboe/kayaks, fish and even swim in the river. The magnificent Chateau de Chambord is 25 kms from here, worth seeing for its awesome size alone.

Golf: 8 18/27 hole golfs courses in our area , for amateurs and proficient players alike, located in the Sologne, in Orleans forest , and elsewhere .
