About Halldora Solbjartsdottir
We are a family of 5 who bought this property from the former owner. My husband Gudmundur runs his own contracting company here and in Norway and renovated the house himself, we have 3 children together 2 boys 21 and 19 and a girl 11 years old. The house was built in 1940´s and we started renovating it in 2010 with the purpose of using it as a family retreat for our family and friends.
We have decorated it in a modern style according to our own taste, but tried to maintain the characteristic of the house but give it a modern look and feel.
Halldora Solbjartsdottir purchased this house in 2004
Why Halldora Solbjartsdottir chose Northwest Iceland
Our property attracted us because of the beautiful and peaceful natural surroundings and it is close to several interesting places and this part of Iceland is also known for having nicer and warmer weather than other parts of Iceland.
What makes this house unique
The property Sólbakki sits in a tranquil and beautiful scenery on the riverbank of the river Hvítá. Location of the place is unique regarding weather shelter, the weather temperature goes often the highest in Iceland at Sólbakki. Once you enter the living room and the terrace you are in touch with nature. The hot water that we use to heat up the hot tub is geothermal water from the ground. When you sit on the sundeck and hear the buzz of the river and the birds singing there is nothing as peaceful.
The property is also in a short distance from lots of beautiful interesting places.
