Fairbanks Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Modern Log Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed, 2 Baths

For an unforgettable Alaskan experience, we invite you to stay in our beautifully hand crafted log cabin. Built on the banks of the scenic Chena River, Riverbend Log Cabins offers a peaceful and secluded 3 ½ acre setting that is centrally located between historical Fairbanks and North Pole Alaska. The rustic elegance of the Chinook Cabin is enhanced by the beautiful river view and surrounding boreal forest. Trees have been cleared in front of the cabin to provide an unobstructed view of Northern Lights. Abundant wildlife – moose, eagles, beaver, waterfowl are often seen from the cabin. Moose frequently visit the property – both during the summer and winter months.

The Chinook Cabin features lovely, comfortable furnishings and beautiful artwork. An outdoor log steam sauna provides a perfect way to relax after a long day. For enjoying the outdoors the Chinook cabin features a cobblestone patio with a gas propane grill, a log picnic table, a small lower deck with a handcrafted log bench, and a larger second story balcony with table and chairs.

The fully equipped kitchen includes a stove and oven, microwave, dishes, cutlery, toaster and coffee maker, refrigerator and everything needed for meal preparation. The cabin is stocked with complementary Alaska blend gourmet coffee and condiments.

The Chinook Cabin has two upstairs bedrooms each with a queen sized bed. Both beds have new mattresses that are fitted with 100% high thread count cotton sheets, soft blankets and comforters. The bedrooms have one adjoining wall that can be closed with a wood folding door. Each bedroom has a separate entrance. The larger bedroom has French doors that lead to an upstairs balcony with beautiful river and northern lights views.

There is a downstairs bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub and shower and a half bath upstairs.

In addition to our Chinook cabin, Riverbend offers the Sourdough cabin. The Sourdough features an upstairs bedroom, a downstairs full bath with shower and a fully equipped kitchen. The cabin comfortably sleeps 1 - 2 guests. For more information on the Sourdough cabin, please see VRBO listing #465596.

About Debi Hanson

Bruce & Debi have lived in Alaska for a combined 57 years. Bruce is an avid hunter, fisherman, craftsman and gardener. Debi enjoys spending time with the grandchildren, various forms of glass art, watercolor, gardening and visiting with our guests. Bruce is looking forward to his upcoming retirement from the University of Alaska and Debi is a retired bookkeeper.

Debi Hanson purchased this cabin in 2002

Why Debi Hanson chose Fairbanks

We both had a lifelong dream of building a log home. When we found this property, we 'just knew' it was the perfect land to start the process of fulfilling our dream. The combination of the serene riverfront location, the surrounding boreal forest, wildlife, wild berries and flowers gives the feeling of being in a sacred, special place. We made the decision in 2006 to build additional cabins so that we could share our dream with others. We thoroughly enjoy the wide variety of guests that stay in the cabins. We love sharing information and stories about our Alaskan lifestyle and hearing about the lives and travels of our guests.

What makes this cabin unique

Quiet, peaceful riverfront setting, centrally located between Fairbanks and North Pole, Alaska. The rustic elegance of the cabin, comfortable furnishings and beautiful artwork is enhanced by the gorgeous river view and surrounding boreal forest, creating a perfect place to rest and relax on your holiday or vacation. Riverbend's Sourdough cabin provides an excellent location to view and photograph the Northern Lights. (Note: Our property with the Northern Lights in the background is featured on the front page of the 2012 Fairbanks Vistior's Guide). Opportunities to view and photograph a variety of wildlife (moose, waterfoul, beaver & eagles). Fishing in front of the cabins, nearby hiking trails and centrally located to Interior Alaska's activities and attractions.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My Alaskan winter has been complete with my stay in this little "Oasis" the Chinook Cabin at Riverbend. There are not enough positive adjectives to describe how wonderful this place really is. The cabin is very well appointed, decorated perfectly, cozy and just plain adorable. It is situated on the river in a peaceful and tranquil se...tting which was very relaxing and quite enjoyable but there were many exciting things happening as well. There were fireworks over the river on New Years Eve, dogsled teams running over the frozen river, Aurora viewing from the balcony, Momma moose and her young in the yard, plus Santa and Mrs Claus paying me a special visit during the holidays! Wow, what more could you ask for? The attention to detail and the genuine kindenss from the owners, the Hanson's, have made me feel extremely comfortable. My stay was everything I hoped for and MORE! I cannot wait until I can visit again, Thank you Debi and Bruce!

Aurora and more

  • 5 of 5
We couldn't be more please with the rental of the Riverbend Cabins. Bruce and Debi are fabulous hosts with a welcome gift and provided everything needed to enjoy the peace of the country and yet close to Fairbanks and various activities including aurora viewing, dog sled rides, museums and many delicious restaurants.
The kitchen was well stocked with kitchenware for preparing meals on-site and bathrooms met with eye pleasing comfort. The living and bedroom spaces are plenty for two or four people to relax and enjoy the views. Plenty of warmth for those cold nights, and days.
All people we encountered were friendly, open to answering questions and had stories to tell including Alaskan history and information in and around the Fairbanks area.
We would definitely recommend this rental for any vacation, winter or summer and hope to return some time in the future.

Great Location, Great Cabin, Great Hosts!

  • 5 of 5
While searching for a Fairbanks hotel for 4 nights starting Christmas, we quickly discovered we were too late: every single hotel we called was completely booked. One of the reservationists we spoke to had heard there was a recent cancellation at Riverbend Log Cabins, and so we called there. We were fortunate everything was booked, because it led us to Debi and Bruce, the owners, who went above and beyond to ensure our stay was most comfortable. For example, since all of the restaurants were closed in Fairbanks on the evening of our arrival, Debi prepared a Christmas meal for the four of us, which included her incredibly tasty homemade smoked salmon chowder. Bruce had recently hunted a moose with his bow and arrow, and so we also had moose meat during our stay. This is not a "bed and breakfast" type place; all the more impressive that our hosts took such care of us. Later that evening, we watched the Northern Lights from our upstairs balcony and from the frozen Chena River, which is about a 30-second walk from our Chinook Cabin. The accommodations were extremely comfortable for four people. The cabin was well heated, and the hot water plentiful, important matters in -45F weather! Additionally, there is a sauna just outside the cabin. Great to use, then run around in the snow :) Great location, great cabin, great hosts! (P.S. This page mentions there is one bathroom. There was actually one full bath and one half bath in our Chinook Cabin. The other cabin might be smaller.)

WE LOVED IT!!! ;-)

  • 5 of 5
We had such a blast staying at Debi and Bruce's cozy cabin! The property sits on a gorgeous garden RIGHT next to the Chena river, So peaceful and tucked away. We were able to meet their cute puppy, Molly while picking fresh produce from their well kept garden. Debi and Bruce also insisted us to use their two person kayak!! They dropped us off a little ways up stream in their truck and saw us off to mosey down the river. We saw many beavers, they were so cute!

We highly recommend staying here on this lovely property!
It's an experience you will never forget!!!

Lovely cabins

  • 5 of 5
We spent 4 nights at Riverbend cabins and loved every minute. The property is magnificent. The cabins are gorgeous - log cabins that are cute, pretty, beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. The hosts were warm and friendly and helpful. The location is quiet, beautifully landscaped, with great places to sit and enjoy Alaska from the decks, river edge, and yard. I highly recommend this property.

Great Aurora Viewing and Just Like Home

  • 5 of 5
I want to thank you both for an unforgettable stay. The Chinook cabin was perfect! It was just like being at home.

As you know, I came to image the aurora. I wanted to be able to walk outside and photograph. Your location was just what I wanted. I could have photographed from the balcony but I chose to walk a short way to the river and image from the river. What a beautiful view. Trees along the edge of the river and open sky above. A perfect balance.

You both went the extra mile to help me run time-lapse photography. You showed me where the power was, then lent me an extension cord to get where I wanted to set up. My equipment sat outside all five nights and I never worried about it.

If that wasn't enough, one night Bruce filled the fire ring and started a fire for me. For an hour I had the earth and sky all to myself. I have always wanted to sit by the firelight at night in Alaska. It was so much fun when you and Bruce and the other guests joined me. Friends, aurora and a warm fire. It doesn't get much better than that.

Thank you for making my stay incredible! I recommend your place to anyone traveling your way. It is perfect for aurora imaging, stargazing or just enjoying nature. I'm sure the summer is just as beautiful. I will be back!
