LOVELY VILLA EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS

  • 5 of 5
We (family of 5: 2 adults and 3 small children aged 1/5/7) spent 3 great weeks in this lovely villa. We immediately felt at home at Les Palmiers. The house was spacious, full of character and had all the amenities we needed including a well equipped kitchen, laundry, an office area and fast/reliable internet which was crucial for working remotely. The town centre was an easy 5-10 minute walk. We had a car and loved exploring this beautiful region of France. There was as much, or as little, to do as we wished in the town of Uzès itself and the within an hour's drive in any direction. The parking garage next door proved to be invaluable especially at the end of long day trips. The entire rental process went very smoothly. Maggie was extremely accommodating and knowledgeable about the area. Marie was very friendly and attended promptly to any inquiries that we had, even arranging to have the pool serviced ahead of schedule for our use (the weather in April was tropical for us coming from Canada!). We would love to go back someday!

Owner's Response: Thank you for this great review and the five stars you have given Les Palmiers. It is great to hear and really says something, that even after a stay of three weeks you still loved it as much as you did on the first day you arrived. To me it means that Les Palmiers is rather special. I very much feel that for a good holiday, the property needs to feel like a home rather than just a house - and I can see that you agree!! Les Palmiers is perfectly placed for a stroll into the Place aux Herbes and to enjoy all the charm of Uzès, for which of course you don't need a car. However with a car, as you say, there is so much to see not far from the doorstep. I'm glad you found our garage useful and you probably noticed that you could often park right outside the house. Thank you too for your kind words about Marie. I will pass them on to her. Thank you again, you and your mother-in-law, whom I know joined your family for part of the time, are welcome back at any time in the future. Maggie

SUPERB LOCATION AND SUPERIOR COMFORT

  • 5 of 5
We spent 7+ weeks in this wonderful home with all the comforts you could ask for, an internet that NEVER failed or was slow (vital for our work). A seven minute walk from the center of town; a supermarket 100M (three blocks) away, a bakery ten steps outside the door. Private and secluded but with the charm of backing onto a veterinarian and dog grooming shop that gave us momentary glimpses of life and a friendly wave when we collected our car from the garage- nice not to be totally isolated. We were here in horrible weather and home is a great nest for snuggling. Weather changed and the garden provided lots of great sitting places. Easy to walk lots of places. We have been very very comfortable here and would rent again in a heartbeat. Owner is accommodating and punctilious- if you have a problem, the caretaker, Marie, is immediately available and Maggie is too. Our problems were minor and of the sort any dwelling is likely to have from time to time. We are widely and wearily traveled and this home provided more than its money's worth. Suitable for two families and in a pinch, three.

Owner's Response: Thank you for this wonderful review and for the 5 stars you have given us. I am so glad that you both enjoyed your stay so much. Les Palmiers is often let by couples during the winter - as you have found, it is cosy for just two people but at the same time equally suitable for a larger family group as it sleeps 7. We have done our best to make the house as comfortable as possible and it is great to read your appreciation. Location, location, location and on this point I cannot agree more: Les Palmiers' position cannot be beaten. Even a minor problem can end up being irritating which is why we do our utmost to solve problems promptly. Marie will be very pleased to hear your comments too - she is a totally reliable godsend and I count on her completely to keep the house in good order. Thank you once again. I look forward to welcoming you or friends of yours to Les Palmiers again in the future.

A SUMMER TO REMEMBER

  • 5 of 5
Everybody agrees that the house and the city are brilliant. The house was very nice and lived up to our expentations - especially the children was very happy with the pool. We have been to Usez before and it is still a very beautiful place. The owners rep. was very helpfull when we had to find a doctor to one of the children. The river Gard, wine tours and Avignon was among our favorites.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for taking the time to write this review and the 5 stars you have given us . We are so glad that you had a good holiday. I did not realise that this was your second visit to Uzes - but I am not surprised. Visitors keep on coming back to Uzes and the area. There is so much to do and see. I will pass on your comments about her to Marie the housekeeper - she is a huge asset to the house. It is great to have someone like her close at hand to call on. Her favourite saying is "there are no problems, only solutions" - a very positive philosophy with which I very much agree. Thank you once again and we hope that when you make your third visit to Uzes, you will choose to stay at Les Palmiers again.

EVEN BETTER THAN EXPECTED

  • 5 of 5
We spent 2 wonderful weeks in Uzes – a couple + 2 single adults – and were all very happy with both Uzes and Les Palmiers. The house and grounds are even more attractive than the photos show. It was very hot during our stay but the lovely courtyard was a shady oasis for lazy afternoons round the pool, which was as sparkling as claimed. The house itself is airy and comfortable, very well equipped with kitchen items and appliances, and everything very clean and well maintained. Location is excellent: a short walk to the town centre and even shorter walk to the closest bakery and supermarket. We particularly appreciated Marie’s friendly welcome and the information Maggie emailed us on shops, restaurants and places to see. As this was our first visit to Uzes, we found this a great help in starting us off on our local explorations; there really is a lot to see and do without going very far afield. We have no hesitation recommending Les Palmiers to our friends, and hope to go back ourselves some time. The only thing we would do differently is that we would not bother to rent a car for the whole period. We found the local buses cheap and convenient, and would only need to hire a car for the occasional trip further afield.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for this review and the 5 stars you have given us. We are very glad that you had such a great time. As you say, the house is perfect for holidays, although we also have regular long winter lets - a Canadian couple are coming back to stay this year for the sixth time. Uzes and the area are also totally beguiling I do not really know what more to say - you have said it ALL! I will pass on your comments to Marie, our fantastic housekeeper - she is a gem! Thank you very much once again. You are welcome back anytime

PERFECT VACATION

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at Les Palmiers with another family and had a wonderful time. The house was perfect with a large kitchen, dining room and salon on the ground floor. The grounds outside were gorgeous with the swimming pool and beautiful trees and flowers. It's an easy walk to the center of Uzes. Most mornings, I went to La Nougatine for a coffee and pain au chocolat and was greeted with a smile by Nadine. I loved the atmosphere at the Place aux Herbes, with the restaurants and shops all around. I thought that the town would be somewhat sleepy on a Sunday but there were many places open and lots of people walking around. The three teenage boys in our group loved walking into town on their own and getting paninis and then going to the park. Uzes is a very walkable town and I couldn't believe how many different stores and restaurants there are for a town this size. We loved going to see the Pont du Gard, which is not far away. There is also a nice wine store on the way there - Les Collines du Bourdic - see their website at http://www.vins-sud-de-france.com/bourdic-collines-bourdic.php. Outside of Uzes, we went to Montpellier for a bike tour of the city and went to Nimes for a Segway tour. Maggie, the owner of this property in Uzes, was very prompt and friendly with her e-mails and provided many helpful ideas for places to eat and things to do. I feel that our one week here only permitted us to scratch the surface. I want to spend more time exploring. If our finances permit, we will definitely come back!

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for this wonderful review and the 5 stars you have given us . I really appreciate the time that you have taken to write in so much detail
La Nougatine is my favourite boulangerie for bread and cakes too - I am particularly partial to their croissant aux amandes (croissant filled with delicious almond paste). I don't think I know Nadine but I will find out who she is during my next visit!! That is one of the great things about Uzes, everyone is very friendly and people get to know you very quickly
As you say, Uzes is a very walkable town with a lot to see and something for holidaymakers of all ages. Even though I first came to Uzes 12 years ago, it is just as wonderful each time I return
I remember reading in a magazine a while ago that the Pont du Gard is the 4th most visited historical site in France so I am glad that you did not miss it. We seem to share the same taste, as Bourdic is one of my favourite wine caves, although there are a few others too which I can recommend were you to visit Uzes again
One week is definitely not enough so I hope you do manage another visit in the future.Thank you once again for this review and all your complimentary words. You are welcome back anytime

A FINE TIME IN UZES

  • 5 of 5
The house and the hospitality of its owner were outstanding. My only quibble was with the weather, which, of course, is beyond even Maggie's control! Though the pool beckoned, we could only bear it for a minute or two: this was an exceptionally cool latter half of May.

The town is charming, the Saturday market (even in a downpour!) was worth the trip; and the Wednesday market wasn't bad, either. Walks down by the river were superb. The wine merchants were approachable and helpful. Teroir, on the Marche aux herbs, even stocked a particular vintage I was looking for. We enjoyed our dinner at Renaissance.

Perhaps best of all, Maggie made a real effort to hunt down outstanding bakers in the area, which was greatly appreciated. It turns out that some of the best regional bread can be found at the little bakery next to her place. As I recall, the bread is pain Gardoise.

The property was certainly as described: clean and well maintained. Any minor problem was attended to promptly. I'd thoroughly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Thank you Mark for your review, your compliments and the 5 stars you have given us. I am so glad that you all had a great holiday in Uzes, even if it was unusually wet for the time of year. I have lived for quite some time in Uzes, so there are not many questions that I can't answer or that I don't know where to find the answer. It is good to hear that you were comfortable and enjoyed staying in Les Palmiers. You will have to come again - I promise to see what I can do about the weather next time!!
