Located in the heart of one of New England's most vibrant villages, the Maple Street Dairy exudes country charm while offering travelers a Vermont take on Alpine chic. Come be among the first to see what we've done to this amazing property, which has been completely updated for the 2012-2013 ski season.
This well-preserved 1830's farmhouse, with wide plank flooring and beautiful winding staircase, is part of a compound which was the Maple Street Dairy, the first dairy in Stowe. It is within easy walking distance of numerous shops, restaurants, and recreational amenities. World class downhill skiing at Stowe Mountain Resort is just a 12 minute drive away, or if you don't want to drive to the slopes, you can hop on the ski shuttle which stops just down the street.
With three bedrooms and two full baths, the home comfortably sleeps 6 in the upstairs bedrooms. If you need more heads in beds, one adult or two children can sleep on the full-size fold-out couch in the living room downstairs. Two separate living and dining areas provide a spacious environment for apre-ski lounging for adults and kids. HDTV, DVD player, wireless internet access, and plenty of board games and puzzles are provided to keep you connected and entertained.
The property owners, who live on site behind the farmhouse in the renovated barn, are dog lovers and know many guests don't want to have to leave their dog behind when they go on vacation. One well-behaved dog is permitted and more are negotiable. Stowe's famed recreation path and off-leash Quiet Path are both great places to walk or ski with your dog nearby.
Come enjoy village life in Stowe!
The property owners are Karen and Dan Akins, who live on the compound behind the original farmhouse in the renovated barn. They moved to Vermont in 2002 from Austin, Texas via London, England to raise their kids in a wholesome, small town environment that offered winter sports. Both are outdoor enthusiasts and enjoy skiing, snowmobiling, tennis, and hockey. They are now empty nesters and devote much of their time to hiking with their 10 year-old goldendoodle, Sunny.
Dan is from St. Paul, Minnesota and Karen is from Oklahoma and Texas. They met while studying at the London School of Economics. They lived and worked in Washington, DC then Austin, Texas until they moved their family to London. They have two children, one a psychologist and the other an aspiring hockey player.
Karen Akins purchased this house in 2001
Being in Stowe village is great because you have easy access to nature along the recreation path but you can also walk to all the village amenities. Maple Street is one of the few areas of Stowe with a real neighborhood feel. In the winter, you can also access the snowmobile path right out the back door!
The Maple Street Dairy is located alongside other well-maintained historic residences in Stowe, within walking distance of all of the amenities of Stowe village. This is a perfect location for skiers and non-skiers alike, so that some in the group can take the ski shuttle to the mountain in the morning, while others have use of the car. Or if some drive up, the others are not stuck at a remote location, but can walk into the village to shop or eat.
What a way to celebrate a 70th birthday with family. The house is so lovely and you have such an amazing attention to detail!
We recommend to anyone the rec path (ski or shine), the scenic by-way to Smugglers Notch, checking out the new Topnoch, and dinner at the Trapp!
We stayed in the farmhouse for six days over the Christmas holidays, 2004. The decor was appealing and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay immensely, and plan a return stay someday. We especially liked the fact that the house was located within a very short walk from shops and restaurants of Stowe.
Our family of 5 stayed at the Maple Street Dairy Farmhouse. We loved our time here. There was certainly ample space, all the kitchen tools necessary to make dinners. It was clean, perfectly located within walking distance to some great restaurants and shops. This was a ski trip, however, it would also be a lovely place to stay during the summer or fall. The owners were kind and helpful and obviously take care of their property. The decor is wonderful, the home is full of character, history and charm. Would definitely stay here again!
The property was in great condition and had all amenities and more. We instantly felt at home. Our young kids had a great time and enjoyed their own room and many games available in the house.
Owners were very friendly and helpful in navigating the surroundings.
Our family had a wonderful stay here. The amenities are delightful. Everything you could want in the kitchen. The aesthetic is charming. Vermont meets farmhouse chic. Wait until you see the plaid wall covering in the dining room. Our son had a great time choosing which of the two adorable bedrooms to sleep in. So nice to walk to town and browse the shops and wander the library sale when we were there. Karen and Dan made perfect recommendations for where to eat and how to spend our time. Wish we could visit here during ski season!
We are glad we picked the Maple street old dairy house for our stay in Stowe over Christmas 2013. The house is beautiful, the location is perfect and we had a wonderful time. We are very thankful to the owners Karen and Dan for their hospitality and helpfulness, it really made a big difference and helped make our stay so special. We felt very welcome, the house was warm when we arrived and was stocked up with various essentials items that made us feel very comfortable. We highly recommend this property.
We stayed in this house in January 2009, during an arctic blast and subzero temperatures. When we arrived, the house was warm and very comfortable. Everything you could need and more was already there. After all day skiing and snowmobiling, it was so nice to come back to a such a comfortable setting and crash. The location was ideal, close to everything. It was our first trip to Stowe, we fell in love with it, and this house did a lot to add to a wonderful trip. When we return we will certainly use this property again. And I highly recommend Whips Restaurant.
