'Wine Country Lodge's history in Sonoma County started with its founder, Lisa Neisingh. Lisa was raised in Sonoma County, where she enjoyed vacations with her family at their riverfront cabin on Healdsburg’s Fitch Mountain and where she learned to swim with her cousins in the Russian River. Wanting to share those sorts of memorable experiences with her family and others, she bought Riverwood, her second riverfront home in Healdsburg, in 2005. Riverwood Lodge was a vacation home previously owned by Ollie Spencer, (a former Super Bowl winning coach of the San Francisco 49ers) and enjoys an exceptional river location and grand accommodations. The Spencer's architect added impressive additions to the original 1930's home, and Lisa continued the improvements, making additions and adding upscale rustic furnishings and decor. Since opening its doors in 2005, we have been inviting guests to enjoy this lovely home and beautiful riverfront setting. Wine Country Lodges continues in the tradition of welcoming guests and is now owned and managed by Lisa’s children Jared B Pickrell and Jill Jensen. Our family enjoys filling these wonderful riverfront homes with comfortable furnishings, relaxing amenities, and providing an array of adventurous and leisurely activities for our guests to enjoy.

We booked the Riverwood to share with our daughter and her husband and two sons. We had a difficult time finding it, because the instructions were not clear. I phoned the desk and was given incorrect instructions which made the search even longer. The area is bluntly pretty ratty. Lots of substandard properties around it. The home itself is nice and accommodating but the Russian River is essentially just a narrow stream. The photo needs updating. The house would easily hold many more people, and has futons that make into beds. A larger group of people would help to bring the price down to what would be reasonable considering the location and the toll the drought has taken on the river.
We are familiar with this area and knew the location of this house would work for our party of 6 who planned to do some wine touring and enjoy the restaurants of Healdsburg. It's hard to find accommodations in a house for three couples, and this place is ideal. My husband and myself, as well as our daughter and her husband occupied the main floor bedrooms (one ensuite bath, the other bath adjacent). Our friends had the entire downstairs to themselves. The management had the lights on, the heat on in all the rooms and lovely, festive holiday decor up. It made us feel very welcome. We didn't use either the spa or sauna, but how great that they were available!
The house is close enough to town that eating out isn't a big deal. It was very quiet in the neighborhood this time of year.
This would be a perfect house for a summer family vacation on the river as the house has a nice deep and wide river frontage.
Lots of room both inside and out. Easy river access for kyaking or rock skipping. House is well apointed and taken care of, with very attentive and responsive owners. A pleasure to deal with...
I took my family to the Napa/Sonoma wine country for a vacation. We had 8 adults and a couple of young children. We found Riverwood via a web search and thought it would support us. Well, it turned out to be a perfect place to base our 7 days of wine country excursions! First, located in Healdsburg, it was a central launching point for wine country drives each day to different "wine roads." In addition, Healdsburg itself was a super place for wine, shopping, and visiting. Second, the house itself was just wonderful! It is extremely large with 4 quite large bed rooms and several smaller options. Seating was everywhere, inside and out. It was well supplied and furnished. Access to the River was easy and we enjoyed the River each day. Third, the booking process was easy and came well informed for the house as well as the area. We could not recommend a place more than RIverwood.
We stayed in Riverwood for a girl's trip and had a fantastic time. The house is in good shape, with a lodge feel to it. The beds are comfortable and there was plenty of bedding and towels for all the guests.
This would be a great house for a multiple family vacation with several living areas.
This house is close to Healdsburg which has a nice square and lots of shopping, resturants, etc.
Riverwood is a spacious, very clean, comfortable home on the Russian River. We had four couples staying here for wine barrel tasting. Each morning we all commented on how comfortable all the beds were (3 Kings!) and how quiet it was. The guys enjoyed the sauna downstairs and we had nice walks along the river. We will definitely stay here again!
There are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activity and adventure, with swimming, boating, rafting and float trips.
Also, fishing poles are provided (licenses required for adults), and prospecting equipment with gold mining pans for even more riverfront passtimes. Complimentary winery tour maps, and bicycle route maps. Restaurant guides with sample menus are provided for most area restaurants, day passes to Parkpoint Health Club available for $10, a variety of inflatables are provided for swimmers in the summer months. There is a log lawn swing for leisurly afternoons, a charming handmade checkers table, and a library of books on the subjects of natural history, travel, wildlife, and local area history. A short trip into town to the plaza in Healdsburg will ensure guests' enjoyment of the very best that northern California's Wine Country has to offer: wonderful dining experiences, wine tasting, food and wine pairings, boutique shopping, live theatre performances at the Raven
