Adorable Cabin on COWLITZ River. The ST HELENS CABIN at Cowlitz River Cabins Retreat is a 1036 square foot fully furnished, beautiful A-frame cabin representing the quintessential style of vacation homes. This A-frame is as affordable as it is adorable!
The cabin’s exterior is made of hand scribed logs and cedar siding presenting a rustic charm, making it the perfect woodsy getaway. The interior has a spacious feel due to the open floor plan and the 22-ft vaulted ceiling, which soars above the great room. The room is bathed in sunlight by large windows with uniquely crafted valances. Several walls are beautifully painted a terra cotta two-toned color, which accentuates the vertical timber columns and horizontal logs seen throughout the room. Featured in the center of the great room, sits a gas stove, which burns with the natural look of real wood, and warms the entire first & second floors. The kitchen includes an island, which provides ample space for preparing meals and/or serves as an eating bar. A huge skylight brightens both the kitchen and dining areas.
The romantic bedroom/loft overlooks the living room and features beautiful mission style furniture. When your day is done, the queen size bed envelops your body into a heavenly white goose down feather bed. On the main floor, there are 2 built-in cozy bunker beds (1 full, 1 queen) with adorable woodsy animal printed curtains that draw closed for privacy.
Outside, a wide set of stairs that bring you up to the entrance features patios on each side. A private jetted hot tub sits on one side and on the other, a barbecue and picnic table to enjoy an outdoor meal.
Cowlitz River Cabin Retreat serves equally well as a weekend cabin, summer retreat, or a ski chalet. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy its proximity to White Pass Recreation area and Gifford Pinchot National Forest, which offers many year round recreational opportunities. This area is not 'touristy' yet attracts thousands of visitors due to it's rugged beauty. If it's peace and tranquility that you’re seeking, you might curl up with a good book or take a stroll down to the river and sit and listen to the water!
This woodland site is shared with numerous wildlife creatures such as elk, deer, raccoons, and wild geese, to name a few. In the early morning and evening hours, frogs from a nearby pond will occasionally serenade you. If you look overhead, you will often spot a pair of eagles soaring high above, but sometimes you have to take a closer look as what your seeing may instead be hang-gliders who have leaped off nearby dog-mountain, soaring like eagles and are a real treat to watch! Anyone interested in a tandem?

Guestbook comments from the owner
We absolutely loved our stay here and the garden. It was quite enjoyable having fresh veggies for dinner. We even made fresh strawberry rhubarb crisp for dessert. We discussed how nice it would be to to enjoy this more often. We will be back! Thank you so much! :-)
Our names are Bill & Tricia Meier and we are the proud owners of these beautiful Cowlitz River Cabins & Tipi. Each is named appropriately, starting with the RAINIER LOG HOUSE, THE ADAMS CHALET, THE ST HELEN’S COTTAGE. And last but not least is our beautiful TATOOSH TIPI.
As far back as our dating years, we had dreamed of moving out of the city of Olympia and building a log house somewhere high in a mountainous area.
About 10 years ago, we got serious and started our search throughout Washington and Oregon for land that would be just the right fit for us. Within a year we stumbled onto this piece of ground and it was love at first site. Finding these 8 acres of land was the beginning of making our dreams come true. Within 2-years of our purchase, we packed up our belongings and moved out to our 8 acre piece of Packwood Heaven.
The first of our cabins to be built was the Rainier Log House. Our plan had always been to purchase a log house kit, but Bill decided he desired an AUTHENTIC log house and he wanted to master the construction himself from top to bottom. So after purchasing a used boom truck and enough logs from a neighbor logging who was logging his property, Bill was on his way. The Rainier Log House was his first masterpiece. Next came THE ST. HELENS COTTAGE and THE MT. ADAMS CHALET soon followed. Then about a year ago, we decided to offer our guest another unique experience by erecting an authentic 22' Tipi complete with all the comforts of home.
It has all been an adventurous labor of love. We hope, whichever of our beauties you choose, you will make memories to last forever.
