My name is Karen Floyd & was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1953. My parents lived on Paki Ave in Waikiki then. Am of Portuguese ancestry. My great grandfather sailed from the Azores in the late 1800's, they were some of the original immigrant agriculturalists that had immigrated to Hawaii. My grandfather had 80 acres of land in S. Kona here on the BIGI of Hawaii and grew and sold Kona coffee. That makes me the 3rd generation born and raised in Hawaii. Growing up here am familiar with much Hawaiian culture and have lots of love & nostalgia regarding Hawaii, it's in my heart & soul. When a visitor chooses to stay at A #1 Volcano Hapu'u Fern Cottage they will experience the true spirit of aloha and Hawaiian hospitality from a local born Kamaaina. We do our best to make a guests BIGI of Hawaii holiday a memorable one.
This property was ideal as it was walking distance from my home and I'd be the primary caretaker. If a guest needed anything they could be assisted ASAP. Liked the property where A #1 Volcano Hapu'u Fern Cottage is situated as it's surrounded by an ancient Hawaiian forest with enormous hapu'u tree ferns taller than the house and many other indigenous trees, plants and flowers, making it an experience of a lifetime for visitors. It's really the old Hawaii that most tourists never get to see and feel. The historical Volcano Village where the cottage is located is also a bird sanctuary for the native Hawaiian birds, the air is filled with bird songs. The area around the home is undeveloped making it very private, you cannot see another home from the premises. The ultimate indulgence is to sit in the hot tub sipping on a favorite beverage and experience the sights and sounds of the Big Island of Hawaii in Volcano. We refurbished the cottage for four months prior to renting it and made sure it had all the modern amenities main land and foreign guests are used to of having, yet the decor is vintage island style furniture and there's also a lava rock surround with a wood-stove giving you that old Hawaii feeling. Growing up in Hawaii am very familiar with the way local homes and estates have been designed and decorated throughout the different eras. The home has also continued to be kept ultra clean and much attention is given to detail, everything needed is at ones finger tips. It was our aim to please and make a guests stay a happy and comfortable one.
