Garden~Hot Tub~Lava Rock & Wood Stove~A #1 Volcano Hapu'u Fern Cottage

Our stay at Hapu'u Fern cottage was awesome! We were there for Veterans Day weekend and a family member's wedding held in Volcano. The B & B was exactly as stated and even better. The location was great for the park entrance. We had the privacy of a B & in the woods but was within the proximity of convenience at your finger tips. Near to many park hiking entrance trails, the Volcano General store (great price $3-$5 for wood and always available) quite a few restaurants, gas station, a post office and the best farmers market on Sunday!! Just lovely. The house itself was large enough for the two of us, so I know it sleeps more comfortably. The fireplace was so cozy to warm up to, read a book by, play some cards next to etc. I also loved the decor! Someone said it was outdated??? Hello, no it's NOT! It's charming, inviting and exactly as described. All the little touches the owner paid attention to was very cute and uplifting. She had fresh fruit (oh so yummy!) and tropical flowers (smelled so good and so beautiful) upon arrival, the kitchen was well stocked and very clean. THe bathrooms well prepped, had strong water flow, very hot water and the bedrooms were cozy. These beds were so comfortable. I have had a C-5, C-6 dyscetomy, extreme low back pain and my husband has also had numerous surgeries for his hip and leg (nope we're not old either! 30 yrs. onlyLol) and we both slept so good. The beds and pillows were comfortable. Now I pay attention to these things and they are important to me. Because whats a nice place if you can't sleep good right? :) The hot tub I suppose also assisted in getting a solid good nights rest. Great for after those hikes! Can't beat it. I'd also like to say that previously there was a comment on a musty smell and that it probably exacerbated her husbands asthma. ??? WHATEVER. I have had chronic asthma for years and I didnt have any problems at all and I was in the vog near the crater. What gives?? I think this was just poor management or a bad attitude all together. If Volcano national Park did not have the rain (its just a misty rain, besides you wake up the next monring and its all sunny blue skies again, just gorgeous) then there wouldnt be the rain-forest to enjoy. Comprende? Lol. Well I definitely recommend staying here. The owners were great, the place was well maintained & priced reasonably. If you're gonna be picky, go to Waikiki so you really have something to complain about. Ha! We loved it and we are returning again:)

This was not our first stay at the Hapu'u Fern Cottage nor will it be our last. From opening the door to the fresh fragrant smell on Sunday afternoon, to regretfully leaving the next morning, we have nothing but good things to say. The clean smell of the cabin changed to the comforting smell of wood smoke as we enjoyed the warming effect of the fireplace. The comfy sheets and thick comforter kept us warm all night as it drizzled outside. The other couple staying with us, awoke to the aroma of fresh coffee and toasted waffles. (my husband's favorite part). The cottage has everything you need to make your stay in the Volcano area fantastic.

This place was in a great location- beautiful fern forest, many birds, and extremely quiet neighborhood. Karen was very friendly and helpful with our stay. The house was great too- had everything we needed to cook all of our own meals, which was nice since there aren't many restaurant options in town. My only complaint about the house was, even though it was very clean, it's carpeted so it still had a bit of that musty smell that happens a lot in wet places like Volcano. It definitely wasn't a dealbreaker, but it still bothered us a little.
