DELIGHTFUL CRAFTSMAN HOME IN TRANQUIL GARDENS IN OLD PT REYES

Point Reyes Station House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

Welcome to the historic Creamery Cottage, built in 1915 for the foreman of the old Point Reyes Creamery in the days when butter was king in this town. The railroad, which gives us the 'Station' portion of our name, ran right by our home taking butter, Russian River redwood, and passengers to San Rafael. Across Mesa Road from us is the old historic engine house (locally known as the 'Green Barn') where standard guage locomotives were once exchanged for the narrow guage engines required for the run up to Russian River. You can enjoy authentic photos of this time in our history in the second bedroom of our home.

The days of chugging engines are long gone in Point Reyes and now you couldn't imagine a more tranquil setting for your stay in glorious West Marin. Set on a quiet and private half-acre of roses, natives plants, lavender and fruit trees, near the heart of the Village, our immaculately preserved Craftsman Period home beautifully evokes old California.

The comfortable and stylish interior of our two-bedroom CREAMERY COTTAGE is furnished with antiques and has all the comforts of home: fully-equipped kitchen, dining room with built-ins, piano in sunroom, small study, and elegant living room. LUXURIATE IN OUR COYUCHI ALL-COTTON ORGANIC SHEETS, TOWELS, AND ROBES, as well as our state-of-the-art new CENTRAL HEATING SYSTEM (rare in West Marin)! Enjoy the view of Inverness Ridge from our dining room table. Pick seasonal fruits in our garden: apples, cherries, figs, peaches, pears, plums, and blackberries. After a hike in the National Seashore, put your feet up and read a book in our warm and cozy living room, or relax on the deck overlooking a lovely fountain courtyard. Have a picnic in the pretty rose, sage, and lavender-scented garden.

Walk over to the main street of one of California's most charming small towns and savor the 'foody' delights of our renown Farmer's Market, Bovine Bakery, the Station House Cafe, Stellina restaurant, and Cowgirl Creamery. Enjoy world class music at the Dance Palace or browse in one of the best bookshops in Northern California. This is an ideal spot for those who like to balance a wilderness experience with some style and comfort. And because we offer significant discounts for stays of longer than a week or month, this would be an ideal retreat for writers or artists.

We are a family of four who live in the San Francisco East Bay, but have deep roots in West Marin. Creamery Cottage is our family home and dear to our hearts. We love to learn how our guests are also touched by this place.

Andrew Walmisley purchased this house in 2003

I have had a life long passion for the Point Reyes area. This house is perfect for us because it is close to the wilderness, yet charming and comfortable. We also love our beautiful garden, which can be enjoyed year-round. The location of the house is ideal and we take pleasure in just strolling over to the town's main street to get the New York Times, a pastry at the Bovine, and a latte at Toby's Feed Barn. We often go walking by Papermill Creek in the early evening. That is, by the way, a great place to go blackberrying!

I love walking into town to 'talk story' with local people; eating bear claws at the Bovine Bakery; browsing in the book shop; walking by Papermill Creek; hiking the trails of Point Reyes; going to the beach at Hearts Desire.

This place is everything it says it is, and a good deal for the price. Very comfortable, cozy and tastefully decorated with everything you need. Not the fanciest modern amenities, but everything works and the place is beautiful. It's in a quiet spot where you don't hear any traffic or noise but is about two blocks from all the restaurants and nightlife that Pt. Reyes Station has to offer. We stayed with a 2 1/2 year old and it was perfect, the owner was very accommodating and found us a nice crib for her. Definitely recommended.

Excellent Family Getaway

The Creamery Cottage was the perfect getaway for a family of four. It's a block's walk to the main drag, which makes it easy to explore downtown. It's also a great location from which to get out to Limantour Beach or Point Reyes Lighthouse.
We arrived to a fresh box of cookies from the local Bovine Bakery and a bottle of Strauss organic milk (a local dairy). This touch, along with the organic sheets and eco-friendly cleaning materials, was a perfect match for us.
The house feels like a home. The kitchen is fully stocked, which we've found to be atypical for a rental. The kids' room has two comfortable twin beds, which adjoins the master bedroom through the bath. There is a wonderful sunroom, perfect for watching a movie or reading books.
The yard was a great place to play with our kids in the evenings, running around after dinner before sunset, as well as exploring the nooks and crannies of the vegetable, fruit, and flower garden.
We can't wait to go back, as it was wonderful!

Did a small reunion with some friends from college. We had good meals in town, hiked the cliffs, and saw whales by the lighthouse.

The house was perfect. We play in band, and Andrew kindly had the piano tuned for us. Very comfortable stay, highly recommended.

Lovely home so convenient to town, yet so peaceful too.

We had a truly wonderful time here and thank Andrew so much. From the delicious cookies and milk upon arrival to the super comfortable beds to the traditional decor, we appreciated everything and felt a world away from everyday life. Yet it was so easy to stroll to town and pick up anything we might need or to walk to dinner. I loved all the cozy spaces and my daughter just loved that there was the piano to play and a kids bike to ride. So many good books to look at too, it inspired my husband to delve into California history more. We'll be back!

A Merry Christmas 4 all!

My wife and I, and our two adult children, spent three wonderful nights of our Christmas reunion in the cottage. We found it suited our needs perfectly, and felt quite at home. The cottage was as advertised, well equipped and convenient to downtown Point Reyes Station and the near by National Seashore. We would highly recommend the Creamery Cottage to those interested in an accommodation with a comfortable and clean residential character ("i.l.o." a commercial hotel) and a central location for the area.
The owner could not have been more cooperative and accommodating.
