Magical Stay!

My four teens and I came in for the Christmas holiday and what a present we received!
We could not have been more pleased with the charm and quaintness of the cottage!
We were in town visiting my father and the cottage was the perfect cozy location for us to enjoy the holiday!
Set on the water, close to town and surrounded by the most interesting people we have ever ran across, we plan on returning to the cottage several times a year to enjoy all that the Shannagans and the Eastern Shore have to offer!
Stay! You wont regret it!

Ideal Getaway

My husband and I just returned from this fairy tale cottage and already want to plan another trip back. It was exactly the type of getaway we were looking for. The cottage itself is cozy, charming and private, with lots of personal touches. Inside boasts a large accommodating kitchen and comfy couches to curl up on with a good book while soaking in the waterfront views. Bring CD's, because they have a great sound system that carries nicely throughout the house and really sets a mood. We went crabbing off the dock and caught a dinner's worth, steaming them up with loads of Old Bay. We brought our kayaks and paddled out right from the front dock just as the sun was dipping low. The gigantic multi-tiered deck provided us not only with spectacular views, but also with a hammock, a fantastic gas grill and a picnic table that if need be, could seat a small army. At night we would sit on the dock with cold beers and watch the sun set. The location is great because you are about a mile walk/drive from town. We dined at The Blarney Street Pub (yummy fried oysters) and Mallard's at the Warf (waterfront dining). We shopped at gardenArt (great gifts to take home) and North Market Street (a gourmet market where you can sample tons of flavored oils and vinegars). The cottage is situated in a great spot, perfect for a day trip to Assateague Island, which was ideal for clamming in the bay, splashing in the ocean and admiring all of the wild horses roaming around. The owners are amazing, as friendly as could be. Don't miss out on this palce...it's a rare find!

A lovely cottage in a lovely spot

We just returned from a wonderful, all-too-short stay at Heartsworth Cottage. As the pictures show, it is situated on a picturesque creek and is tastefully and comfortably furnished. My wife and I and our two children (nearly 6 and nearly 2) loved Heartsworth as did our sister-in-law and her husband and son (13)--watching great blue heron and little green heron and other birds from the spacious deck; taking out the paddleboat to explore the creek; quick jaunts into Onancock and then to our family up and down the Shore, from Cape Charles to Weirwood. Onancock is also just an hour from Chincoteague/Assateague--perfect for a daytrip. We just wish we had more time!

The Shanahans were the soul of hospitality--quick to answer questions and provide helpful suggestions (the Fish House on King Street was right on the money). The cottage was spotless when we arrived and in the refrigerator was a nice gift basket.

We look forward to our return!

your hearts worth

We recently had occassion to stay at heartworth cottage during the month of May. It was a week wonderfully spent. The cottage sits on a tidal cove of the Chesapeke Bay, near the town of Onancock. The town is within walking distance, and is a great place to walk and explore. Each morning we walked to the town, stopped in at the corner store, had a refreshing breakfast and explored. There is a pharmacy that is truly haunted. Many great restaurants, and sights to see. Don't miss the hardware store. We gourged on seafood, both in local restaurants and thanks to the owners, grilled shrimp, scallops, etc. in the grill on the cottage's magnificent deck. I can't begin to describe the relaxing atmosphere that is available to guests. You can just sit and watch the wildlife that is indigenous to the area. Many homes have boats docked and the scenery is magnificent. They keep a small paddle boat near the dock that is well woth launching. We ventured to Tangiers Island for Mother's Day dinner. Well worth the trip. See Captain Mark Crockett for details. The Delmarva penninsula is a great place to explore by car. So many neat small off the beaten path towns. You can even visit with the locals and chat on the Liar's Bench. If you enjoy a relaxing vacation, I strongly reccommend Heartsworth. You'll never forget it.

Our Spring Break on the Eastern Shore

5 of 5
Submitted: April 11, 2009 Stayed: April 2009
We just returned from a stay in this lovely cottage. It was wonderful!!! The house is beautifully decorated with many interesting pieces of art. The view from the back deck is fantastic and very relaxing. We saw many birds, including egrets and ducks. My children enjoyed playing on the dock and we all enjoyed the canoe. The owners are welcoming and lovely to work with. On our arrival, there was wine, pears, cheese & crackers, and fresh flowers. What a wonderful treat!!!

While in Onancock, we explored Chincoteague, Assateague, & the town of Onancock. We loved it all! We found many art galleries to explore and my children loved our trip to Assateague with the wide-open beach and the wild ponies.

We all hope to return to the Eastern Shore soon and would love to stay at this property again. We were sad to leave and my youngest (4 year old boy) is still talking about going back to "the pretty house" sometime soon. Thank you for a wonderful visit!!
