PRIVATE ISLAND HOME WITH OCEAN AND SUNSET VIEWS

Monhegan Island House Rental Photos and Description

Quiet location- 4 bedrooms,1 large bathroom, sleeps 6

Sitting atop Horn's Hill on Monhegan Island, The Charles House is a beautiful home with ocean and sunset views from the upstairs. In the evenings, you can see lighthouses glowing along the coast of Maine from upstairs. The house is located in a private place on the island and is only a five minute walk to the nearest cliffs which line the east side of Monhegan. And a five minute walk in the opposite direction to get to the village.

My home has a spacious kitchen with natural wood counters/cabinets and the living room opens up onto a large deck that looks over a lawn and toward the harbor and neighboring island, Manana. The home has lovely clear drinking water and beautiful Maine art decorates the walls. It is my home for most of the year, so the house is fully stocked and has quite a few ammenties that other rentals don't offer on the island. I offer high speed internet connection at the house as well.

There is a large game closet upstairs with puzzles, games and toys for all ages, and a wide assortment of books for all ages. I have an extensive collecion of Art books in the house, it is my mother's life-long collection and includes over 200 books about many kinds of art.

Although you will see a woodstove in the pictures, the house is set up in the summer time for propane use instead. There is a very effective floor furnace that is available for renters that wish to have heat. Unfortunately, the wood stove gets disconnected, and is not an option.

I have a number of bird feeders around and feed the birds year round here on the property, so there is an active bird population that visit the yard every day..... I have a couple of adorable pair of Carolina wrens that sing atop the branches every day, and in the spring/summer the thrashers and mockingbirds are fun to listen to up here on top of the hill. Monhegan is a bird migratory stop off, so many species of birds visit the island in the spring and fall. So bring your binoculars!

When there is a 'sea' built up , you can hear the surf crashing against the rocks at Lobster Cove while sitting on the deck.... Lobster cove is not far from the house, and the surf there can be terrific.

There is always a lovely breeze that goes through the house if you leave windows or the doors open - and very little problems with mosquitos or other bugs.

The biggest advantage to renting my home is the privacy and quiet that you will experience amidst the trees and birds and breezes at the top of the hill.... the house is on one of the highest planes of the island, yet ocean views are limited to the upstairs windows because quiet and privacy of trees, gardens, flowers and birds prevail year-round.

Map

Map

The Charles House sits high on Monhegan Island which is located 12 miles off the Maine coast. It is a place of extreme beauty and peace. Monhegan is about 1 1/4 miles long and 3/4 mile wide, and hosts 17 miles of hiking trails which lead through beautiful Maine woods out to high cliffs that run the length of the east side of the island. Two thirds of Monhegan are held in a natural preserve, to remain forever wild. In the Spring and Fall seasons, Monhegan is a destination for birdwatchers who come from around the world to witness the migration of many species of birds on their way north and south.

Monhegan Island is a destination for artists as well, who come to paint the natural beauty of the island and the traditional fishing village. The island does have a wonderful lighthouse and museum, a general store, a gift shop and a coffee house. Visitors come to relax and get away from the fast paced life of the mainland.

Notes:
4 doubles. Clear drinking water from faucet. High speed wireless internet connection. Private, quiet location on the island. Five minute walk to the cliffs in one direction, and a five minute walk to the village in the other direction. Beautiful starry nights, beautiful sunrises, and beautiful sunsets......whales are often seen off the cliffside of the island. There is a great museum at the Lighthouse and the island is rich with history. The remnants of a shipwreck sit at Lobster Cove,; Monhegan is one of the oldest fishing villages off the eastern coast of the US. It boasts the highest cliffs on the eastern seaboard as well. There are several shops on the island, two gifts shops, several eateries and restaurants, and a fish market on the beach where you can purchase fresh seafood. Come visit this amazing place, I consider it a 'little peice of heaven on earth'....
