(Travelers, we're using HomeAway's 'quotable rate' feature but feel free to ask about possible discounts for longer stays and for dates in the near future.)
Ten years ago we bought the beach house that our family had rented for many years. We're on the ocean side of Mission Beach, 6 blocks north of Belmont Park, on beautiful Kennebeck Court. This listing is for the “dollhouse”, the guest apartment located behind the main house. Only two houses between us and the beautiful sand of Mission Beach; walk there in 30 seconds (or less!).
Cute, clean, and close to the beach, the dollhouse is perfect for singles, couples, corporate travelers, & small families. This charming, 2nd floor guest apartment has vaulted & beamed ceilings with sky lights that let in tons of natural light in. Built in the 1930's, it has all the charming touches: crystal door knobs, the original wood floors, and flower boxes. Beach themed decorations compliment the comfortable dollhouse style.
Sleeping arrangements: There are two bedrooms plus a small sleeping loft that is reached by ladder (see picture). The master bedroom has a queen bed, the second bedroom has two twins, and the loft has one twin. The loft is a fun spot for older children and the young-at-heart, but is not suitable sleeping space for young children.
There is one full bath, and you’ll never run out of hot water thanks to the latest on-demand water heaters.
The kitchen is generously stocked with everything you might need, including a gas range, microwave, and dishwasher. Breakfast bar seats 4. Plenty of cabinets and a large pantry, too.
Parking: One garage parking spot is included with apartment rental. (Note: Full size SUV will fit, but may be a tight fit.)
Outside areas: The dollhouse has its own small, private, (not shared) patio with gas BBQ. A brick walkway leads to a private gate onto our court.

About Nancy Whalen
Phoenix, AZ is our home, but we love San Diego so much that we even went there for our honeymoon 31 years ago. We go to Mission Beach as often as we can and love all that San Diego has to offer. We never get tired of acting like tourists! We have many fond memories of summer vacations with our three sons when we used to rent this beach house, and look forward to making more memories with our grandchildren some day.
Nancy Whalen purchased this apartment in 2003
Why Nancy Whalen chose Mission Beach
'The Dollhouse' is a guest apartment attached to the beach house (HomeAway 114123/) that we rented for nine summer vacations, starting when our twins were babies. We love this house and always called it 'our beach house' even before we owned it. In the summer of 2003 we arrived at 'our beach house' and it was 'For Sale!' It is a dream come true to own this house, including the adorable 'dollhouse', and we are very thankful for all the fun times it has provided us, with friends and especially our family. We look forward to spending many happy years with our children and eventually their children in this special place.
What makes this apartment unique
Think about renting BOTH houses together. You can easily sleep 15, with two full kitchens, four bathrooms, three parking spots, and tons of outdoor space.
Guestbook comments from the owner
This was a great vacation for my family. It is away from the public beach parking so there are less people. It was close to all the main attractions and there were plenty of attracions within walking distance. The places to eat were well mapped out by our host and they included all price ranges and food types. We will stay again!
