Overview

South Bank & Southwark Apartment Rental Photos and Description

2 bedroom, 1 bathroom home embellished with wooden beams and exposed bricks

Raise the roof

With the lively halls of Borough Market and the sharply angular Shard, London Bridge certainly has a rebellious side. And Maidstone Building Mews, a wistfully converted loft, is just as nonconformist. Walls are sloped and embellished with wooden beams and exposed bricks, Perspex chairs shock against an antique dining table, and the stone-tiled wet room knows no boundaries. Cut just as loose in the open-plan living area – there’s a generous corner sofa to sink into if your energy wanes. Or stay in bed all day – London Bridge’s bars and eateries are best toured by night anyway.

Soulful lyricist

Your host is currently exploring Africa, though when in London she loves visiting independent cafés and the nearby British Library to conduct her work as an academic writer. She’s also a Jimi Hendrix fan – see the electric guitar propped against a portrait of the legend himself.

Electric blues

Not to be outperformed by its locale, this former barley warehouse has plenty of attitude. The kitchen is all moody blues and vintage music posters, a trio of rock legends gaze down onto the master bedroom, and the double bedroom’s quirky Anglepoise shines a spotlight on a generous collection of tomes.

The nearby and animated South Bank is where you might plug into a daring street performance, from pitch-perfect buskers to the dramatic thespians of the National Theatre. Or stay at home and take it down a notch in the elaborately clad bathtub.

About Owner / Property Manager

onefinestay gives you the chance to stay in someone's place while they're out of town. You get to live their life for a few days and nights.

Booking a stay is as easy as booking a hotel room. And there's service to match.

Nobody wants to be a tourist, so our homes come with recommendations from the people who live in them. For everything else, we're here 24/7.

Why Owner / Property Manager chose South Bank & Southwark

South of the river and directly south of the City, Southwark - also known as The Borough or just Borough - was once the hard-drinking, licentious, unlicensed and largely lawless counterpart to the industry and commerce to the North. This was an area of taverns and theatres, bull and bear baiting and rollocking good time having.

Later the area was taken over by factories and the warehouses storing goodies brought in on the Thames but the good times had definitely stopped rolling.

The regeneration of what had become a forlorn and a largely forgotten part of town was kick-started by the conversion of the hulking Bankside Power Station into the hulking Tate Modern in 2000. Tate Modern now pulls in almost 5m visitors a year and has become the late-arrival anchor tenant of a river-side stretch of cultural powerhouses that no other city can match.

The banks of the Thames now throng with visitors, from Waterloo Bridge to Tower Bridge or from The National Theatre to City Hall if you prefer.

But there is now far more activity a few blocks back from the river and the area is earmarked as a new commercial and creative hub with a cluster of gleaming towers in the works following the arrival of the Shard. Architects and designers have taken over warehouse buildings whilst banks and publishing houses occupy smart new blocks on Southwark Street itself.

What makes this apartment unique

Booking a stay is as easy as booking a hotel room, with online payment and confirmation. You get the same attention to detail and personal service too.

Every home is properly cleaned before and after you stay, beds made (we can even do hospital corners) and bathrooms kitted out with luxury toiletries. There’s a maid service if you want it, as well as other hotel-style amenities.

Once we’ve helped you settle in, we’re just a call away, 24/7. If it’s something we can’t solve over the phone, we’ll pop over to lend a hand.

And because nobody wants to be a tourist, our homes come with personal and unique recommendations from the people who live in them – places to eat, things to do and adventures to go on.
