Great Vacation, but unit not worth the money
We vacationed in the past at Hilton Head and were excited about the VRBO listing for this unit. The unit is as described, but is dated. The décor was old with typical 1980's wallpaper in every room. The view was nice, but was really only of the sound not the actual ocean. If you stood on your tippy toes from the far corner of the livingroom window - on a clear day at the right angle - you will have a great view. Due to the tides, the beach access is limited. Not the fault of the owner, but would have been a great piece of information for a newbie. The lay out of the unit is nice with tons of room. It was more than enough space for a family of four. The unit does not come with anything extra. No cleaning supplies, no extra trash bags, and toilet paper (only on the rolls). I took a few photos to give an idea of the upkeep. Bathroom caulking was brown, and ceiling was falling down in several places. Upon our arrival, the unit was hot. A/c temp was up high, so we turned it down. Six hours later at midnight, the temp was 81 degrees in the condo. I called the office number and reported that the a/c was not working. We had discovered a puddle of water trailing from the a/c unit into the entry way floor. I was informed a repair would be made in the morning. The next day a repair man arrived to refill the Freon which would temporarily fix the problem for two days. We were staying for 7 days. The company planned to return after we checked out to complete a total repair. Two days later, guess what happened, the a/c was working and the puddle of water returned. We called the office for the second time. They again sent out a repair man who decided the unit needed to be replaced. Over the course of two days, the unit was replaced. We did not have a/c which really put a damper on some of our events; getting ready for the family beach photos was not a fun sweaty experience.
The day of our departure, the cleaning crew arrived at 8am (checkout was 10am). An army of 10 or so people entered the unit to begin cleaning. This was unexpected. When we personally returned the keys to the office, we shared our concerns about the a/c and how we really weren't happy. The response was, "Oh, sorry to hear that." Considering the price we paid for the unit, we expected a little more from the office staff in terms of service as well as the quality of the unit itself. Very disappointing vacation. We would not return to this unit, nor do business again with Sea Turtles Getaway. Beware!
