Enjoy our Octagonal glass house nestled in the woods with views of the pond. It is on a quiet, country road yet only a mile from shopping and all that the Mad River Valley has to offer. In summer, listen as the stream flows by the bedroom, enjoy a barbecue on the deck or just sit and watch the heron feed on frogs in the pond. In winter the house is cozy -- cuddle up on the couch with a good book or pop a movie into the DVD or VCR and let the Hearthstone gas fireplace warm you as you watch the snow fall. In autumn, you can enjoy the foliage without ever leaving the living room. Any time you can enjoy the Mad River Valley's central Vermont location and take pleasure in the many activities and attractions within an hour's drive. The Octagon House is a Vermont vacation home designed to sleep 4-6 people in two bedrooms. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed and an en suite full bathroom with shower/tub combination. All linens are provided. Enjoy free wireless DSL.

The Octagon House is minutes from some of the best skiing in the east at Mad River Glen and Sugarbush in the beautiful Mad River Valley. A snowshoe trail right out the door leads up the hill through silent forest and links to the Catamount Trail. Cross-country skiing on marked trails through an enchanting stand of evergreens is practically at your doorstep. Groomed cross-country skiing is nearby at Blueberry Lake and Ole's Cross-Country Ski areas. Sleigh rides are also available nearby. In summer and fall the snowshoe trail can be used for hiking or mountain biking. The Octagon House is also only minutes from the Appalachian Gap and access onto the Long Trail. Right out the door there is a very scenic walking loop up and around Bragg Hill and the Mad River Recreation Path is a beautiful walk along the river. Golfers can enjoy the challenge of playing the Sugarbush Golf Course, a Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design.

The second bedroom has two twin beds that can be made up as a very comfortable king. The living room has a queen-size sofa bed. Both bedrooms have telephones. The second bathroom is also a full bathroom with shower/tub combination. There is also a crib. For our guests' convenience, upon their arrival they will find fresh ground coffee, milk, orange juice, cereal, hot chocolate mix and tea. The open kitchen/dining/living areas are very welcoming and the entire house is carpeted except for the kitchen and bathrooms. The kitchen is fully equipped with a large refrigerator, gas stove, and microwave and plenty of dishes and utensils. Downstairs there is a slate-floored ski storage area as well as a utility room with washer and dryer. A non-smoking house.

Clearwater Sports runs outstanding canoe and kayak trips on the Winooski River. The Sugarbush Sports Center offers a rock climbing wall, aerobics classes, indoor and outdoor swimming, tennis, squash, and a gym. The Mad River Valley has an excellent farmer's market on Saturday mornings in summer and fall. Many talented artists and artisans sell their creations in local shops. After a hard day of shopping a massage from Mad River Massage is a relaxing choice. The Mad River Valley is centrally located to many of Vermont's premier attractions. Less than an hours drive will take you to the Shelburne Museum, the Barre Granite Quarries, Middlebury, Lake Champlain, or the state capital of Montpelier.

We stayed at the Octagon House near Mad River Glen for two nights.
The photos and description are very accurate, its a unique spot. We found it to be clean, well-maintained and fun. The warm stove in the living room kept us cozy.The kids appreciated the wi-fi and we appreciated the coffee,milk,juice and cereal that our innkeepers provided. We were able to ski at mad river glen (only a few miles away)and enjoyed that very much. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet, scenic, restful vacation. Our only regret is that we didnt stay long enough to have a meal at the Millbrook Inn- apparently the menu is excellent (heard from a local!)
