Comfortable, close to beach and ideal for family (pets too!)
We stayed in this unit for nearly three weeks, so I feel well equipped to give an honest review.
Our party included three adults, three teenagers and a dog. We all agreed that it was the perfect unit for our priorities, which included: easy beach access, plenty of room for everybody, in-unit laundry, balcony, pool and cleanliness.
The teen boys stayed up in the loft, which includes a pull-out sofa, dresser and TV. This was *perfect* because they had their own space, but we could keep an eye -- er, ear -- on them. Our two girls (young adult and teenager) stayed in the room with two twin beds. We found the king bed comfortable, and linens were spotless.
The beach is a couple of minutes' easy walk away, with a sidewalk, crosswalk and dedicated beach access. (We could see a little of the Gulf from the screened-in balcony). The grounds were perfect for our little dog (lots of green!), and the pool was clean and uncrowded. We could see it from the balcony, so that makes it a great fit for families with kids. Parking was easy, and there was room in the back for our little kayak trailer. The stores, winding paths and artsy shops of Gulfplace are within easy walking distance.
While we were there, the area received 20" of rain in four days, so yes, the balcony wound up with a puddle. We simply swept the water away. The location is great for rainy-day activities, though (the kids loved Pier Park and Baytowne Wharf, each a short drive away).
Just one "con": The master bedroom's remote didn't work, despite new batteries (that'd be a quick fix for the owners with a universal remote).
We've been coming to the area for 13 years and have stayed everywhere from Destin to Panama City, so we have a good basis for comparison. Is this place like the slick, upscale condos over in Destin or the postcard-perfect cottages in Seaside? No. What it IS is an unpretentious family place where we could truly relax without worrying that the kids would knock over something expensive. It's not new, it's not perfect -- but it was perfect for US.
And c'mon, the price! Let's be honest: Where can a large-ish family (with a dog, no less!) stay this close to the beach in peak season at this price? We'll be back.
A reviewer who stayed after us mentioned the lack of a second key. That was my fault: I inadvertently brought it home with us but have since returned it ;-).
