Heavenly house on the bay

My husband and I are looking forward to our fifth visit in the past four years to this home. We enjoy the proximity to the beach, the quiet of the area, and every part of the house itself. To be honest, I have resisted reviewing this house because I don't want it to become too popular, but as long as we can get in our 2 weeks every year, it's a shame not to let someone else have it during the other weeks!
Unlike in many beach communities, this house is not built up against the neighbors. It is beautifully decorated inside with framed prints and furnishings that I covet for my very own, and the kitchen is very well furnished. Bring your bikes because the streets are relatively quiet and most drivers slow down and hug the opposite side of the road when they see you. A small general store down the street makes great sandwiches for picnics and fresh doughnuts on weekend mornings. Trips to Rehoboth (25-minute drive) and Bethany Beach (45-minute drive) will afford boardwalk experiences, and Lewes (a 15-minute drive) is a great town to walk around, peruse the shops (Marsha's is one of our favorites), and eat (our #1 restaurant there is Striper Bites). A day-trip, on the ferry, to Cape May is a lot of fun, too.
There is a long staircase to get from the entry up to the main level, so this would not be acceptable for those who have difficulty with stairs. With any luck, I will not have any problem doing this for the next 20 years or so because I cannot imagine spending my beach vacation anywhere else!
Be kind to the horseshoe crabs, too. They can be plentiful on the beach, depending on the season. Flip them over with your toe if they are upside-down, and they will find their way back into the water. These guys are NOT any danger to humans, they do not sting or "pinch", and resist the impulse to be daring and pick one up by its tail. The tail is its "rudder" and is absolutely necessary for the creature's navigation.
The only, and I mean only, downside about this area is that, at many times of the year, flies and mosquitoes are plentiful (from the nearby wetlands). It is almost impossible to peacefully sit out on the decks after sunset but, with the windows open, the sound of the waves crashing onto the nearby shore will be clearly audible throughout the day and night.
