Three bedroom with loft cedar bungalow at center of mostly sandy crescent Puget Sound beach. Separate kid's 'dorm' on deck next to water, with adjoining kitchen, shower and covered area for relaxing next to the water. Custom made home featuring dozens of leaded glass windows and panels, furnished tastefully with good quality English antiques. Floors downstairs are walnut pegged oak plank or teak, covered with oriental throw rugs. Rooms are covered with clear cedar or knotty pine. Tiffany style hand made lamps in all rooms. Stone gas fireplace in living room, and gas fireplace in master suite. Over 2000 square feet of multilevel decks overlook the harbor, and french doors lead to elegant teak covered main deck and the hot tub. Home sits on a low bank lot approximately 30 feet above the lower deck behind the bulkhead/boat launch. Steps go directly to the beach. Main bath has separate tub and glass block shower stall, with custom tile hand painted to depict a great blue hero

Dig butter clams or pick up mussels on the two community beaches. Set out the pot in season and catch Dungeness crab right in front of the deck by the water. Swimming for the fearless, and kayaking & all watersports go on all summer. Just sit in the hot tub and listen to the stereo and watch the bald eagles and blue herons that appear every day. Salmon fishing in season. There is a good concrete boat ramp at freeland, 3 miles south, and boats can be anchored or moored in front of the property. Visit historic Coupeville or Langley by the sea for shopping, fine dining, both within 20 minutes by car, and downtown Seattle is an hours drive and a 12 minute ferry ride away. Walk the private beaches in solitude most days, and sometimes gray whales swim by in the spring. This place is very quiet and very private, so enjoy!

Additional information about rental rates

  • 135-175/night; 1,000-1,300/week
  • Summer season (June 15-Sept 15 ) $1300 per week (minimum rental of one week) for up to four guests, and $100 per week for each guest beyond four (unless two adult renters have more than 2 of their own minor children staying with them, which is no additional charge). Sept 16-June 14 rate is $1000 week, $175 per night for Friday & Saturday, $135 other days, $15 night for each guest beyond 4, $350 minimum chg.
    20 % off for second successive week(s). Off season Sept. 16 through June 14. There is a refundable cleaning deposit of $100, a refundable damage deposit of $200 for first time guests, and a $100 refundable pet deposit. There is a minimum rental reservation deposit of $300 to book the home, which will apply to the cost of the stay, due within 3 days of acceptance of the reservation.
  • Refundable damage deposit of $200 and refundable pet deposit of $100 and refundable cleaning deposit of $100.Deposits serve as reservation deposit, and are payable within 3 days of booking. Deposits will be refunded within 3 days of departure if property is cleaned and undamaged. Check in 3pm, or by prior arrangement, checkout noon, or later by prior arrangement. Rate are 175 ngt between Dec 23 and Jan 1 and 4 days at Thanksgiving., and on 3 day weekend holiday periods.

  • There is a outdoor shower on the deck by the water that is used in the summer, having its own hot water supply The master bath was custom made with an artistic rendering of a great blue heron on the ceramic tile surround, and is enclosed by glass block at the end and by stained glass panels above the glass sliding doors. The bath off the master bedroom has its own real porthole salvaged off of a ship that is set into the wall with a stained glass sailing ship behind the door. The second bath contains a stacking full size front load high efficiency washer and dryer, new in June 2009 Both baths are paneled with clear cedar and oak plank or teak floors.

Three sets of outdoor dining furniture, and lots of flowers growing in container Terrific view from all rooms except one. Lots of skylights and a glass covered breezeway are just off the french doors, so if it does rain, one can still sit outside. New hot tub with 2 pumps and new pagoda cover for the tub arrives in early March 2007. Very private. Property has decorative night lighting on decks on timers

The best vacation we've had

My wife and I just spent 14 days at this idyllic location. Our 30 year old son joined us for 5 days. The location is serene and spectacular. The weather in late June and early July was cool and wonderful. We had only one day of rain and I was anticipating more (actually looking forward to more). We cannot imagine anything we wanted or needed which was not provided. We loved the deck, hot tub and view. We have returned home to Southern Nevada where todays temp reached 112. We are looking at realestate websites on Whidbey. Thank you Bruce and Kathy for making this wonderful vacation home available. Sincerely, Jim and Sharon

Relaxing place full of surprises

Heron House is a delightful property full of surprising nooks and crannies, beautiful views of the water and sunsets, and everything you could want for a relaxing vacation. Our family of 5 stayed for a week and we found the location on Whidbey Island perfect for going in any direction -- to Langley, Port Townsend, Fort Casey, or even back to the mainland for a daytrip. Best of all were days just spent at the house doing nothing! The multiple decks were perfect for dining outside, sunbathing, reading, or just gazing at the water. Almost every night we used the hot tub. Our youngest daughter loved collecting shells along the private beach, and I enjoyed long walks on the beach and in the neighborhood. With the two bedrooms upstairs and two downstairs we never felt crowded. The detailed description Bruce provides is very accurate. The house has lovely Tiffany lamps and stained glass everywhere you look - even hanging outside. (I counted 9 beautiful lamps in the living area alone!) It is a place with great character and charm where we spent an unforgettable week making memories.

Avery big thank you to Bruce and Kathy for putting this oasis of a rental on the market for us to enjoy. We have gone twice now and am in awe of the house, it meets all of our needs, from the furnishings, the kitchen , the deck, hot tub, covered patio and the beach access which is totally private. The rental is not only suitable for couples but also accommodates the whole family plus in my case my teenagers friends, there is a small house by the beach where the kids can hang out and a fire pit for entertainment. We have a dog and every place we have rented that allowed dogs has been filthy. Needless to say our dog also loves the cottage which is fenced in, he has alot of room to run around and can run around on the beach. The house is beautiful, I dont like going home once I am there, also I live just right in Everett and just going across is the best vacation for us. My only concern is that so many people have discovered this piece of paradise hideaway that I am having a hard time putting in for a date to rent, probably need to rent a year in advance. Thank you again Bruce and Kathy, cant wait to come again!
