Overview

Hydra Island Villa Rental Photos and Description

Impeccably Finished Two Bedroomed Villa

Impeccably finished and presented, the Pine Tree house is surely one of the finest villas available to rent on the island.

Built in 1880 and renovated to a very high standard in 2002, this property is an oasis of calm and relaxation. Set squarely above the port , it offers stunning views from its commanding position. The height will put some off, but others will relish the privacy.

The house is 200 m2 and the garden 800 m2, lemon and orange trees, a Mediterranean herb and vegetable garden and the islands largest pine tree seen from the harbour are located in this unique garden.

Apart from the excellent renovation done on the house and the incredible interiors, one thing makes this property on of the most unique on the island. Is the breathtaking, jaw dropping view that one faces as soon as they enter.

The house is split on two levels, the living room, dining room, kitchen and its patio and vegetable garden, first bedroom and bathroom are located on the ground floor.

The master bedroom with its en-suite bathroom and a study and library along with magnificent terrace are located on the top floor.

The old cistern has been converted in a beautiful cave-like wine cellar with an excellent wine selection and pantry room. Another cistern has been re purposed as one of the bathrooms.

The house is not recommended for families with very young children as the walk up to the house is between 10-15 minutes that might occasionally be too much for them.

The house has been designed as a relaxation safe haven and thus no wi-fi, or satellite TV are provided. However excellent 3G service is provided all over the island and all the cafes and restaurants offer free wi-fi).

The small historical island of Hydra has fairly been considered as one of the most popular travelling destinations around the world. Access from Athens is very easy and takes about on and a half to two hours by hydrofoil or car. Hydra has a long naval history which is immediately apparent as one arrival on the islands due to the old beautifully restored mansion, museums and cannons.

The port of Hydra is located in the town of the island, that is spread over two hills, full of traditionally built houses (building rules on the island are extremely strict in order to maintain the unique atmosphere of the island throughout time). Apart from the natural beauty and history of the island, what makes it truly unique is that on wheeled vehicles are allowed, this includes of course cars, motorbikes, but even bicycles. All transportation is done by foot, donkeys, or water taxis, that take visitors to the islands secluded beaches. This fact makes Hydra unique in the sense that one gets the feeling that time has stopped. It is the perfect location to relax, slow down and enjoy a long lost way of life.

The house is situated in a commanding position in Kala Pigadia, overlooking the town of Hydra and the port, with views stretching across the sea to the Peloponnese...

This house is not down at the water's edge and will not suit you if you are not happy to climb the steps.

The route up to the house is very straightforward however, as most of the walk is up Miaoulis Street which has no steps but instead is a fairly shallow incline.

When you imagine a perfect Greek island Hydra is it.

Narrow cobbled lanes to get lost in. Unexpected chic shops round corners. Quality locally served tavernas. Busy and quiet bars. Sea front cafes. Swimming in crystal clear waters. Goat tracks. Coastal walks. Deserted hills. Pine forests. Deserted bays. Hidden water sports facilities. Friendly locals.

Day trips to other islands: Spetses, Poros, Dokos, Aegina, Agistri. Sunshine, shade and old windmills.

But what gives Hydra it's unique feel is the strict building regulations which keeps everything in traditional harmony and the fact that the only mode of transport is donkey.

There are no roads and no cars or bikes. Everywhere is a short walk or, if you like, a donkey ride away. The traditional way of building and lack of motorised transport keep the pace of life on Hydra as it was 100 years ago, delightfully steady and gentle.

There is time to talk, time to smile, time to relax. On Hydra the world is still a beautiful place.
