Mayfair is the most central of London’s wealthy areas. Royalty and government are within ‘earshot’ and the tranquillity of the capital’s famous parks virtually on the doorstep.
Hertford Street is also conveniently located for some of the world’s finest shopping, dining and entertainment.
Below are some of the most popular attractions nearby. We also provide a concierge service to advise you of the full range of services and facilities in this and other areas of London.
Buckingham Palace :
Buckingham Palace is the official London home and administrative headquarters of Queen Elizabeth II. Although in use for the many official events and receptions held by The Queen, the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace are open to the public every year. Visitor information is available on the Royal Collection website.
The Palace is a working building and the centrepiece of Britain's constitutional monarchy. It houses the offices of those who support the day-to-day activities and duties of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh and their immediate family. The Palace is also the venue for Royal ceremonies and State Visits.
Changing the Guard, when new guard exchange duty with old guard, happens daily from May through to July and is a popular spectacle for visitors.
DISTINGUISHED ENGLISH SHOPPING
Mayfair is perfectly located for shopping, whether you are looking for something authentically English or international designer brands.
Savile Row :
The discerning gentlemen with a passion for fine clothes may wish to visit nearby Savile Row, the street termed the ‘golden mile of tailoring’.
The likes of Winston Churchill, Lord Nelson and Napoleon III are just some of the famous and celebrated who have had bespoke suits made here.
Fortnum & Mason :
Its origins in 1707 as a small shop in St James’s market, Fortnum & Mason has grown in status to one of the most famous grocery stores in London. Here you will find unique gifts and hampers, including produce from HRH the Prince of Wales’s country estate Highgrove. The food hall has expanded onto two floors, offering a magnificent variety of fresh food to prepare in the comfort of your apartment. There are also several restaurants catering for all tastes and where you can savour the traditional English Cream Tea.
Burlington Arcade :
Running down the side of Burlington House, now the Royal Academy of Arts, is Piccadilly’s most celebrated pedestrian shopping arcade with its delectable boutique-style luxury shops. It was built in 1819 by Lord George Cavendish to prevent passers-by throwing oyster shells and rubbish into his garden.
As in the past, uniformed beadles still patrol the arcade today to discourage inappropriate behaviour. They have the authority to eject anyone who runs, carries large packages, opens an umbrella, whistles, hums or sings. Here you can find exclusive ranges of clothing, footwear, accessories, art, antique silver and jewellery.
Bond Street :
Another fashionable shopping street in Mayfair within easy reach of Hertford Street is Bond Street. At one time it was best known for top end art dealers and antique shops, clustered around the London office of Sotheby's auction house. Sotheby’s has been in Bond Street for over a hundred years.
Although some of the art and antique dealerships still remain today, most of the shops are now occupied by fashion boutiques, including branches of most of the leading premium priced designer brands in the world and exclusive jewellers.
FAMOUS ROYAL PARKS
Green Park :
The nearest park to Hertford Street is The Green Park which borders on Buckingham Palace and Gardens and St James Palace. With its mature trees and grassland, this provides tranquillity and peace from the rush of London
Hyde Park :
Also within easy reach of our apartments is Hyde Park with its famous Speakers Corner. Visit on a Sunday and watch speakers delivering their views on virtually any topic under the sun.
