Overview

Zermatt Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Self-catering with a cosy, home-stay feeling and on-site concierge service

The Chez Nous apartments are in a building called Haus Maoli that is just a 5 minute walk from the centre of Zermatt and all the apartments have stunning views straight out on to the majestic Matterhorn.

The Mischabel is a split level apartment on the second floor that can sleep 6-8 people.

Le Petit is on the first floor and can sleep 4 people.

The only practical point to bear in mind is that direct access to our building from street level is down 3 flights of stairs. However once your luggage is installed most guests then use the shortcut to the village via a path across the field in front of the house.

NEWSFLASH - The 14th July 2015 marks the 150th anniversary of the first ascent of The Matterhorn led by Edward Whymper in 1865. Throughout July and August 2015 there will be special events to mark this momentous achievement including an open air theatre production at Riffelberg re-creating the climb. 2015 will be a truly memorable summer to be in Zermatt!

WARNING: we feel duty bound to warn any potential traveller, using sites like these, about the widespread proliferation of scammers setting up bogus listings and sites. If you are AT ALL uncertain about whether what you are booking is valid PLEASE telephone us because a conversation about what is on offer is much less easily 'faked' than an email offer/confirmation and we will always take the time to explain the Chez Nous service to you in detail.

Details for Le Petit 2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 4, 1 Bathroom, 1 Half Bathrooms

Le Petit is a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom flat on the first floor of the building (on the right hand side as you look at the photo of the exterior). We like to think that it is small but perfectly formed. The pretty sitting room/dining room has a kitchen off it and a large wrap-around balcony that faces out to the field with the lovely old Swiss stadls in the foreground and the Matterhorn presiding in the background. The dining area comfortably seats 6 people and for relaxing evenings in there is a 45' home cinema system (with UK channels and Apple TV). The apartment is fully equipped with all the essentials including wifi, a coffee machine, hairdryers packs and a home made cake will be there to greet you when you arrive.
Suitability:
  • children welcome
  • non smoking only
  • pets not allowed
  • wheelchair inaccessible

About Lizzie Orange

We (Lizzie Orange and Angus Potter) have been living and working in Zermatt for the last 8 years (and Angus has been skiing here since he was 9 years old). We met here and, having left our 'London lives' behind, decided that Chez Nous was a great way to combine our skills. As well as running Chez Nous, Angus teaches skiing at one of the local ski schools (Stoked) and Lizzie is a private chef, organises events and, in the event that Chez Nous is not right for you, she can also tailor-make a holiday in Zermatt for you.

Lizzie Orange purchased this apartment in 2013

Why Lizzie Orange chose Zermatt

Initially we ran a small b&b from our apartment on the 3rd floor and then the opportunity arose to take on 2 more flats in the same building (the Swiss laws re. foreigners buying property allowed us to buy one and lease the other) which means we can now offer our guests the privacy of a self-catered holiday combined with the feel and warmth of staying in someone else's home. We completely re-furnished the flats to create a more cosy atmosphere that aims to make you feel at home from the moment you walk in.

When we set up Chez Nous I don’t think either of us imagined the pleasure we would get from meeting and getting to know the guests who have stayed with us. We spent a lot of time talking about how we wanted the flats to look (and, as anyone who has done this will know, arguing about what should go where!) but didn’t foresee how nice it would be to see families and friends enjoying the space we have created.

As we head in to our second winter season we are delighted to be welcoming back a lot of the guests who stayed in Le Petit and the Mischabel last year and we are doing our best to make sure we add a few new touches to each apartment.

What makes this apartment unique

We hope that us being 'on site' (without being in your way) will help you get the most out of your holiday. Angus knows the ski area like the back of his hand and Lizzie's forte is food - so between us we think we have the most important things covered. We will be on hand to make recommendations, reservations, answer any questions or simply have a glass of wine with you in the evening if you want to come upstairs and say hello.

Our stay at Chez Nous was wonderful. The hosts kindly set everything for us and were very helpful and made our experience in Zermatt even better. The apartment was lovely and clean. I highly recommend it and also the Lizzie's lemon home cake! Pierre

Sensationelle Location mit tollen Gastgebern!

  • 5 of 5

Insgesamt sehr empfehlenswert!

Owner's Response: Dear Alex You know me well enough to know that I have had to use the services of "Google Translate" to read your very nice review - thank you for taking the time to do that. It is so nice to hear that you enjoyed the apartment and the service we offer here and it was lovely to meet you both. I hope we will be able to welcome you back 'Chez Nous' soon but in the meantime, very best wishes to you, Lizzie and Angus

Amazing stay, second year in a row!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at this apartment and we loved it as much if not more than last year. It sis cosy, functional and very central. We were two adults and three children and there was plenty of room. We skied every day, walking to the ski school and base of the lifts. Lizzie and Angus are consumate hosts and take care of every need. We look forward to going back again perhaps in the summer!

Owner's Response: Oh thank you Adam - it was lovely to have you all back with us and see the children smiling away again. Great that you are thinking about a possible trip in the summer which (even though I have to whisper it during the winter) is possibly my favourite time of year in Zermatt - the mountains seem to offer so much and July 2015 is the 150th anniversary of the first successful ascent of The Matterhorn and there are various celebrations planned throughout the summer so it will be a good time to be here. Very best wishes to you all for a good start to 2015 and until we see you again. Lizzie and Angus

Owner's Response: Thank you Ting-Yu for taking the time to do a review for us. It was so nice to know that you and your parents enjoyed the apartment and the view of the Matterhorn especially as you had come all the way from Taiwan - you chose the right time of year! Best wishes to you all for the remains of 2014, Lizzie

An Amazing Apartment

  • 5 of 5

This is an amazing apartment in an amazing location. The view from the balcony is breathtaking and Lizzie - the owner has such an great eye for detail. The apartment has everything you could wish for for a home from home. Angus - her partner has ensured that if you do want a night in there is state of the art audio and visual equipment to keep you entertained. We had a wonderful 2 weeks and would highly recommend this apartment.

Owner's Response: Oh thank you Hayley - it was lovely to meet you both and to see you enjoying the apartment. "Home from home" is what we were aiming for so that's a lovely description to have used - and I hope we will be able to lure you back during the winter season. Best wishes to you in the meantime, Lizzie and Angus

Zermatt - Best Apartment with Matterhorn Views

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved Zermatt and Chez Nous was a huge part of it. Beautifully appointed apartment - even nicer than the photographs. We were there four days with our two children (11 and 14). It rained for two days and yet, we so enjoyed our time - between staring at the ever-changing Matterhorn, cooking in and watching Apple TV and BBC TV - all were content. The apartment was centrally located to the shops yet not in the thick of the tourist area. We were also there to enjoy August 1st - the Swiss National Day - fun, festive and lots of fireworks. We took incredible hikes as well. Can't wait to go back and ski! Oh yes, as you'll see in the reviews, everyone mentions Lizzie's lemon cake. I thought that was a nice gesture until I had a slice of that warm deliciousness - oh my goodness - it's a huge act of kindness - incredible! Lastly, Lizzie is just a wonderful host (we didn't get to meet Angus but no doubt he is too). And before I forget, Lizzie met us at the train station with a taxi and arranged for our return which made arrival and departure very easy.

Owner's Response: Hi Heather, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review of your stay - it was a genuine pleasure to meet you all and to see you making the most out of your time despite the rather unsettled weather (the mountains are never less than dramatic are they?!). I do hope that we will be able to welcome you back here to ski at some stage and will look forward to seeing you all again. Very best wishes in the meantime, Lizzie (and Angus who is now back here!).

Car: not necessary

NEWSFLASH - The 14th July 2015 marks the 150th anniversary of the first ascent of The Matterhorn led by Edward Whymper in 1865. Throughout July and August 2015 there will be special events to mark this momentous achievement including an open air theatre production at Riffelberg re-creating the climb. 2015 will be a truly memorable summer to be in Zermatt!

Zermatt deserves its reputation as one of the world's best mountain resorts - there is a magical quality to it all year round.

The Klein Matterhorn cable car is the highest cable car in Europe (3,883m at the summit) and on a clear day gives you simply breathtaking views out towards Mont Blanc and its surrounding peaks. Alternatively start your day on the Gornergrat railway which originally opened in 1898 and is the second highest railway in Europe (after the Jungfrau) - a great feat of Swiss engineering. From the top of Gornergrat you get a sweeping panorama of 29 'four thousanders' (mountains over 4,000m) including the Monte Rosa which is the highest mountain in Switzerland.

In the winter your lift pass covers the Zermatt and Cervinia and includes some 360km of marked runs but if that isn't enough you can also ice skate, sledge, hike, snow shoe, try curling or simply swim and relax in one of the village hotel's wonderful wellness areas.

In the summer there is glorious hiking, climbing, a fun park for the children, cycling, tennis, squash, paragliding and plenty of places to have a picnic by a lake.

At any time of year Zermatt has something to offer and its mountain restaurants are second to none in the Alps so the gourmet will not be disappointed either.
