Quiet, Peaceful getaway that has EVERYTHING!

Dogs Travel 2 Shorewood IL
Review Submitted: January 11, 2010 Date of Stay: July 2009
My wife and I have visited Maine for the past few summers. We have always stayed at different locations on different lakes. This was by far the best place we have found yet! We travel with our dogs and they loved the area to run and play. Linda assured us that the cabin was well-equipped. I could not believe all the items she had...really... anything you could want or need on a vacation was there!

The fishing was incredible as well! I was catching smallmouth bass like crazy just off shore! The smallest one was 1.5 pounds...the largest was 4.5. Bring some swim baits with you!

The canoes and kayaks were great. It truly was one of the most restful vacations we have ever taken.

We were a little overwhelmed by the loggers trail to drive out, but quickly got used to it. A passenger car could make it, but a small SUV would be best. We had no troubles on the road.

Linda is awesome! She checked in with us a couple of times during our two week stay just to make sure we were doing fine. Her house is close by (a few hundred yards) just in case.

The hummingbirds were fantastic! We filled the feeders several times during our stay. We enjoyed them (10-15 different ones) very much! Afternoons in the sun, watching the hummingbirds, while napping in the hammock! AWESOME!

Thanks Linda for a wonderful trip!

Right place for the right people

We didn't look for entertainment when we came here, just a quiet place to take a break
from our busy lives and relax. This was a nice stay, we felt ourselves
as one happy family. We were fishing, canoeing, kayaking, picking
blueberries and raspberries (we even took some home!)

The place is very private, with only one another camp about 200 yards
away, and Linda's (the owner) house nearby (so it didn't feel too scary to stay).
There is a lot of space to explore, so we had a couple of good hikes.
The dirt road is not as bad as we thought, even with all the rains
this summer. We had Honda Accord, so we were concerned, just drove carefully.

Fire pit is a good idea - it was saving us from mosquitos. We were
having our food (cooked ourselves) either outside or on the screened
porch overlooking the lake.

Overall, it was a pleasure. House is clean, furniture is good (for a
rental place), Linda is doing a very good job so guests have a good
vacation. There was no smells in the house which is common for such
places (we rented quite a few vacation houses in Maine).

Once Linda took us to the waterfalls in the body of her truck -
children were very happy (and us too), that was fun.

Wonderful location!

We loved this place!! The location is terrific -- near enough to Acadia to go every day, near enough to Belfast and Searsport to visit museums and antique shops, and yet you could stay the entire time at this cabin and have a great time on the lake. The long screened in porch was wonderful. The owner is a delightful person -- she has created a lot of great places to sit on the lawn, near little gardens, and has a wonderful hummingbird feeder with lots of activity. The cabin itself is amazingly well-equipped and it smells woodsy and wonderful inside. Real art on the walls, books, games, anything you can think of wanting to use in the kitchen. Another plus for us -- a tub for bubblebaths! There is a great restaurant in Ellsworth -- right on the Union River -- and we never even got to the really nifty historic house or the Schoodic Peninsula. Too much to do and enjoy! This place is a gem!

Our experience

Céline St-Hubert Quebec
Review Submitted: August 12, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We rented this cottage from the 2nd till the 9th of august 2008. The cottage is very clean, and fully equiped. You don't need to bring anything except your shampoo and soap, toothbrush and toothpaste! Since the cottage is on a lake, you always have a nice breeze coming in. We all slept very well, the beds were very confortable. If you want peace and quiet, you want to relax, this is the perfect spot! You will see osprey, eagles, herons, you will see and hear loons on the lake, and other wildlife like deer. I even heard a coyote one night! The fishing is good:my sons caught 8 small mouth bass (they are not big, but depending on how many people you are, count at least 2 per person).

If you need anything like milk, bread, beer, there is a small convenient store/restaurant about 10 minutes from the cottage called Porky Sue's. They serve coffee and the food is good(it is not gourmet food, but you will find hamburgers, subs, pizzas and seafood on the menu).
The cottage is about 20 minutes from Ellsworth where you have a Shaws and Hannafords, and other restaurants like Mc Donalds, Burger King, Wendys, Friendlys and much more. You have another 20 minutes more to get to Bar Harbor(unless you get traffic!)

We got clouds and rain all week(which is exceptional since it had not rained all summer except for the last two weeks), but we had an amazing week! We were so confortable, not to mention the veranda which gives you a view of the lake! We even ate there a couple of times with candles! There is a table on the veranda that you can use, with all the chairs you need, there is 2 rocking chairs, a very confortable sofa and chair if you want to relax and read! The veranda is screened all around, but you can also close the windows if it gets too chilly.

I will definitely go back to this place! It was wonderful, and Linda was great! She made us tour the cottage and explained where everything was. She told us where we could see a gigantic rock in the woods left by a glacier long long ago. She will surely tell you where you can see falls!

All I can say is that it is a beautiful place where you will relax and come back replenished!
