We purchased Hilltop located on a 100 ft. wide lot next to several wooded lots and our original fishing hideaway where families of deer, a pair of eagles and all kinds of furry and feathered wild life make their homes on the 'Rivered Hills of Hersey.'

EVERYTHING is here that we love - privacy, beauty, incredible changing seasons, fishing, wildlife, a great hunting retreat during season. We enjoy the beautiful sunsets, view of the river, always changing! The fishing is great from the 20' dock and children have lots of fun in the shallow water on the 10' dock, catching crayfish or clams or picking up 'special rocks.' You can relax on the river, shaded by maple and various types of trees, hang a hammock near the picnic table on the river bank, tube down the river to either one of the docks, have a bonfire at night in the fire pit, on the river bank or the fire pit in the back yard, enjoying the stars and our lovely Michigan cold night air, as you watch the moon cause golden ripples in the river.

Downtime - memories forever - retreat for sweethearts - away from it all. You will never forget and often return.

Gift of peace

We called - they said "Please come!" We are so glad we did! It was a match made in heaven. Jan and John have a great thing going there. It is like going to grandma's house for a visit. There were even cookies in the cookie jar! They are such a delight. You can tell that they like serving people. I did not have to bring a thing but food and we went home with clean laundry! The float down the river is our most favorite, where you can see the blue herons and turtles galore. We definitely call it our home away from home. We will be going back.

Quiant Riverside Cottage

  • 5 of 5
Jan was so friendly, very sweet lady. She surprised us with a bottle of wine and two chilled glasses in the fridge upon our arrival. Clean cottage atmosphere, beautiful riverfront with 2 small docks that our kids had great time fishing from, and actually caught alot of fish! We will stay again, when we are in the area.

Very nice house with all the necessities and more

  • 5 of 5
Could not have asked for a nicer and cleaner place to stay. Jan is a doll and makes sure you have everything you need to make your stay enjoyable. Lots to do in the area within a short drive. Enjoyed sitting by the river and reading. We enjoyed several free concerts at Evert and Reed City parks on Friday and Saturday night. We will visit again. Thanks again Jan, Tim, Teresa, Justin, Josie and MaKenna.

The Hilltop Hideaway

  • 5 of 5
Had a wonderful birthday weekend at Hilltop. It had been such a hot week, much in the 90's and this was just the place for us with the River just a short walk down the hill and tubing a daily option. We found it to be very quiet and peaceful and witnessed local wildlife each evening and in the early morning.

Everything we needed was available and more. Tubes for the river, a grill, outside firepits (2), picnic tables, outside chairs along with a house full of anything we may need from area information to games, fresh spices and a washer and dryer. The place was clean and I immediately felt comfortable.

Jan was a delight and had everything taken care of for our arrival. There were numerous events taking place nearby and we enjoyed attending those as well ... The Dulcimer Festival, music at The Depot in Reed City and the Dam Festival at Rogers Dam. So many opportunities so close to this charming residence. Looking forward to another stay in the future!!

A great place to stay, fish, and relax!

  • 5 of 5
My brother and I had a great week of fishing, kayaking and relaxing. The river was clear and clean with Smallmouth Bass that were big an mean. These fish were fat and healthy fighters that really made for a memorable trip. We also had a great time fishing in 3 area lakes as well. The house was a perfect place for us. So many extras were provided, all we had to bring was food, kayaks, and fishing gear. The house was clean, comfortable and offered the privacy that is so hard to find. We were very thankful to have a washing machine and dryer. It was a great week and we definately plan to come back again!

Diamond in the rough

  • 5 of 5
I cannot express enough of what a jewel this vacation rental is. Jan has thought of everything you would need to make your stay pleasant. My only regret is that I did not know of it until this year. My son graduated from Ferris and I needed a place to stay for my grown family. We had more than enough room and we are all big people. It was so nice to be able to have dinner and sit around the table and talk. We were able to wash clothes and get things ironed for the ceremony without being crowded. She makes you feel welcome and had candy in a dish on the table and cookies in the cookie jar. We were not there long enough to use the firepit and do the tubing on the river, but I know we would have had fun doing that also. All you need to bring are your clothes and groceries. She has the pantry stocked with spices, etc. I am grateful I found this rental and would recommend it to anyone. Jan is the best.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review, Laureen. I truly enjoyed meeting your family and hearing everyone had fun - so sorry you did not have time to float down the river and/or fish. The docks and picnic tables are in place now, so please be another "repeat renter". Thank you so much for leaving everything so nice and clean, from the beds to vacuuming!!! What a great example for your family. Jan
