Acadia View is located on a quiet dead end convenient both to the shops and restaurants of downtown Bar Harbor and to the beauty of Acadia National Park--only about 1/2 mile to either. There is a free shuttle in both directions. The layout is modern, with a breakfast island between kitchen and den, full kitchen with dishwasher, wireless internet connection, cable TV, DVD player, and full laundry. Outside there is a sun deck and a large lawn with picnic table and gas grill. We furnish linens, towels, dishes, pans, detergents, and paper products--just about everything except toothbrushes!

Dining, Shopping, Boating: : Approximately 70 restaurants, mostly casual. Most have lobster, and most serve liquor. Good value by city standards. Friendly shops and outstanding craft and art galleries. Many forms of ocean boating, including: slow sunset sails, whale watches, guided sea kayaking, novel trips on lobster boat or video-dive boat, private charters.

Recreation & Nature: : Hike, bike, kayak, canoe, climb. Photograph on guided nature tours in Acadia National Park. Oceanarium, zoo, mini-golf & full golfing, biking down Mt. Cadillac, horse wagons & horseback. Make day trips to quaint villages in Maine. Century-old reputation as 'America's Most Beautiful Island' and 'Queen of Resorts.'

Certified for Occupancy: Starting in 2007 all weekly rental properties must be Certified for Occupancy by town officials. Our property is duly certified. As you shop among properties, ask whether they are currently certified--to avoid a cancellation at the last minute. If you have to cancel, we immediately put your week back on the market and refund your outlay after someone else rents. There is no automatic penalty, but with a late cancellation there is a chance that no one will be found to replace your family. Thankfully, cancellations are rare.

About Paul DeVore

On a one-week vacation to Bar Harbor in 1976, I fell in love with the Town and National Park. I signed a lease on a small shop--and never returned to Boston. A frequent fantasy of visitors; I was lucky enuf to make it work. For 25 years I owned Boston Baked Beads, The Dancing Deer &The Blue Heron Shop. I've served the Town on the Appeals Board & the restoration of the historic Hulls Cove Schoolhouse. I grew up living sweetly in small towns, but none was as beautiful as this one.

Acadia View offers a perfect location. Tucked into a low-traffic deadend behind a hill away from the bustle of the downtown, it still remains within walking or shuttle distance of all the fine shops and restaurants. And if you head the other direction by bike, auto, or free shuttle--it is only 1/2 mile into one of the most beautiful of our National Parks. You can't get much closer! I didn't build Acadia View, but I did recognize it as a gem--and bought it.

What a wonderful Place

We want to thank Paul and Karen for a great week at Acadia View. Everything was fresh and clean, and I'll bet none of the furniture or appliances are more than a year or two old. The kids had a great time playing on the lawn, and we didn't worry about them because there was almost no traffic at any time of day. Absolutely silent at night. And yet the place is just down the road from the national park and also within easy reach of all the shops and restaurants. I feel that my stay in the Bar Harbor area was greatly enhanced by the feeling of comfort provided at Acadia View. It would be hard to find a more comfortable place in a more strategic location. We'll definitely be back--maybe with the dog next time!

Overall, I'd rate this location as fantastic. I will say there was a cobweb or two, but the house was in no way dirty. If what you are looking for is top of the line, this may not be the place for you. But if you are looking for roomy, comfortable, and a great location, I'd say book this place immediately. We stayed in Acadia View B and was ecstatic to walk in after a 24 hour drive. You could easily sleep 8 with both sofas and the 2 bedrooms. The house is really close to town and my little sister was able to walk into Bar Harbor when my husband and I didn't want to go to the bars. Also, extremely quick and easy access to Acadia Park. The neighborhood is extremely quiet and we could barely hear the toddler that was above us in rental A. And there is a washer and dryer which I can imagine would be extra fantastic if you had children with you. If I ever make it back, I will not be looking to rent anywhere else. My ONLY complaint would be the temperamental coffee maker.

Neither sunny nor modern, as the owner's title leads one to believe. Not well-maintained at all. Think 'off campus grad student housing': 'curbside special' decor (badly torn chair, worn and lifeless couch, cheap coffee table, all circa 1985); dingy, undecorated walls; 3 years worth of dust on the ceiling fan blades; cobwebs galore; last tenant's food remnants still in sink on arrival; strange stain on carpet. Pictures on site were not of the unit we were provided access to. We had no tv - just a computer screen and could not find how to obtain cable or tv reception. Broadband access ok for checking mail, but not for Netflix. Bathroom fixtures, towels, and sheets were clean enough to avoid heading straight for the Holiday Inn and demanding our money back for the rental property, but you can get so much more for the same price elsewhere on the island. Was convenient in terms of location, and it's functional if your only goal is to avoid camping and you have no intention of spending any time there other than sleeping and bathing, but that's the only positive thing I can say. Very, very disappointing and not worth the money spent.
