I absolutely love this little cottage. It is a quaint and quiet spot up on the hill with a lovely ocean breeze and tranquil view of loblolly cove.
It is two bedrooms but I think it is most suited for two adults and possibly a child.
It is nicely appointed and well stocked with everything you would need.
I hope to be back for the same two weeks next summer.
Bonnie, the owner has also been a delight and extremely accommodating and thoughtful.
We had problems as soon as we got here. While unpacking, I turned my back for a second and found my 16-month old falling out of the door onto the concrete steps because the latch to the door was broken and the door would therefore not stay closed. We then found him playing with paint chips on the floor below the front window. We then turned the water on in the kitchen only to find brown water running into the sink. Later that night my husband turned on the kitchen sink again and the faucet actually exploded and water was spraying everywhere. We called the owner of the cottage who called someone who lives nearby. He came over within minutes and was extremely helpful. He had to turn the water off to the entire compound, putting all residents and visitors without running water. We called the owner back to fill her in and she said she would have a plumber there by 7:30 am the next morning. We realize that things like this happen, but we just did not feel we needed to stick it out on our dime, so we asked the owner for our money back so we could go stay somewhere else. She refused, indicating that she could have rented the cottage to someone else for the holiday weekend. Yet the property should have been in good working condition for any renter - whether that was us or someone else. The next morning we waited for the plumber to arrive. Without running water to brush our teeth with, flush the toilet with, shower with, etc. since 9pm the night before. We waited until after 10:00am and still no plumber. We called the owner even more frustrated and asked for our money back again. Again she refused. We told her we were going to leave to stay elsewhere, but she didn’t care. In fact, twice during the weekend she called and left us voicemails asking how everything was at the cottage, apparently refusing to believe we had actually left the property. At one point, in one of her voicemails she offered us an extra night at no cost – clearly the sign of someone who knows she should try to make good – but trying to do so without having to refund our money. Once we arrived at home, my husband followed up with her again via email, but we have received no response from her. We will be contacting the Chamber of Commerce and BBB to report this.
This was a very good choice for a cape ann stay for two couples. The owner was very helpful, and the location was terrific. You definitely need a car for seeing all the great sites in the area. I hope to return.
This was our first experience with homeaway.com, and with rentals, for that matter. Usually, there are five of us crammed into one hotel room for a week’s vacation – not ideal. This cottage was perfect for us! My daughters stayed in the second bedroom with the twin bed and trundle, and my son slept in the living room on the couch. Speaking of which, if I had a “complaint,” it would be that the photos show a futon in the living, not a fold-out couch (though it is in the write-up as a fold-out), which made for rather tight walk-thrus on late-nite potty runs.
And the cottage is compact, for sure. If you have large people in your party, bear that in mind. However, this rental had absolutely everything we could possibly need! The owner seemed to think of every little detail – there were full ice trays waiting for us when we arrived, in addition to charcoal briquettes and matches for the outside grill, a basket full of brochures for activities and restaurants and even some basic toiletries in the bath!
The cottage itself was in the perfect location for us, as well. It seemed equidistant from anything and everything we wanted to do in Rockport and Gloucester, though often, even the kids wanted to go back to the cottage just to “chill.” The driveway in was a bit rough (we were glad to have the SUV), but typical of many beachside entrances. There were bunnies crossing on the way up the drive, and deer in the field directly behind the cottage – very Disney! And the view was every bit as amazing as pictured! We could see one of the lighthouses perfectly from the kitchen window and both as we walked around the main house. There are about 10 cottages around a larger house, and they are quite close, but we had no problems with noisy neighbors. The rental is part of an association which provides adequate trash disposal and basic “courtesy rules” for all.
Overall, we had the most relaxing vacation we’ve ever had (without leaving the kids home, that is)! We absolutely would rent here again!
We loved staying at Bonnie's house. It's small and very cozy. We celebrated our baby's 2nd birthday there, and there was even room for his Pack-n-Play. Thanks Bonnie for a nice weekend on Cape Ann.
The cottage was exactly as described! Bonnie, the owner, is very attentive and was available as needed. We had a great time exploring Rockport and the surrounding area. She had some great recommendations for meals too. The cottage is well maintained, clean and so pretty. We had a wonderful time, 2 adults and 3 kids :)
We BBQ'd several times and had a great time. The cottage is well equipped and there is a supermarket and gas station and Dunkin Donuts nearby! Hope to come back again. We have a Child with special needs and she had NO problem getting around!
Walk to Pepple and Cape Hedge beaches. Nearby fishing and whale watching boats, historic Rockport and Gloucester centers, take the commuter train to Boston and enjoy the sights of the city at the same time that you relax at the shore.
Other Activities: across the street from the ocean
Golf: There are a couple of nearby public golf courses.
