This was our first time ever visiting Alaska. We travelled to visit our son serving at Ft. Richardson and we wanted a place that we could call "home" for the week. It far exceeded our expectations! What a wonderful and loved home! Tom has gone to great lengths to make this a place that people would want to come back to, we certainly will call him if we return in the future! Thanks Tom!
We arrived the week going into the 4th of July and the weather and this home couldn't have been better! It really is beautifully furnished. Although it says sleeps 6 and we are a family of 7 - we were in Anchorage to visit our son at Ft Richardson,- Tom was great about letting our son stay with us instead of having to go back to the base at night. It meant the kids were taking turns on who had a bed, but with the big screen TV, cozy comfortable furniture, new carpet and the day lasting nearly 24 hours, (which is totally cool) they were staying up to all hours and having a grand time together.
The kitchen had great pots and pans and we made many of our meals there. The dining room table sat us all with 7 chairs and was just right for playing games in the evening.
Also, a mixer and bowls for making cookies, which made it seem even more like home!
The one bathroom got crowded and we had "wait times" :) but the shower/bath worked great and everything was well maintained.
Things we did and would recommend in the area: Kenai Fjord 6 hour tour in Seward - the day was overcast, but that may have actually been a plus because we saw tons of whales breeching and other wildlife on the way to the glaciers and the captain was in no hurry to leave the whales "to stay on schedule" as they don't always put on the show they did for us. My husband and the kids kayaked in Prince William Sound on the 4th and we rented bikes from Downtown Bicycle and went on the Tony Knowles trail one afternoon. We all hiked Flattop Mountain and my daughter and I ran the trail that starts a few blocks from the house and heads toward Goose Lake and came across a moose near the University!
The home is in a great location because by getting on 15th/Debarr you just head west toward downtown or east toward other shopping centers, the base, or on out of town toward hiking Thunderbird Falls and Lake Elutkna (sp?) both of which were beautiful and no cost :)
We met the nice woman living downstairs and only hope WE were not too noisy as we never heard anything from them! My apologies if we were bothersome and you were anxiously waiting for our departure.
As I saw noted on another review - we also had a late evening departure and Tom allowed us to stay past check out time to make our final day much less hectic.
Our stay was grand. It was a very comfortable and enjoyable home and as one of our daughters put it - "this place was perfect". Thank you for making our stay positively memorable.
This apartment is clean, totally comfortable and well maintained. Good bed in master, blackout shade on window, good shower (only one bathroom). Quiet, except for airplane noise from nearby airstrip (starts around 7am). Great location, close to downtown and highway out of town. Pleasant yard for outdoor drinking and dining and sunset viewing. We enjoyed the rustic cabin motif. Kitchen had everything we needed except for a blender. Owner is great and gave us late check-out time as our flight out was the in the evening. The place is not fancy, but very comfortable and we would gladly stay here again. If you are going, be sure to eat at Spenard Roadhouse and have halibut cheeks at Simon and Seaford. Yak and Yeti Himalayan is excellent, too.
This was our first trip to Anchorage and the home was great. Very quiet neighborhood and we felt perfectly safe. We planned to do daily drive trips so this place as easily accessible to the roads we needed. The grocery store (Carrs) was so accessible, as was the Costco. Plenty of room for the 4 of us. We could not hear anyone below us or beside of us. I assume someone was there since windows were open.
It was nice to find the kitchen with some food stuffs to get us started. Also, the washer and dryer was a very nice amenity with the clothes detergent and fabric softener there.
the best part was that our flight was delayed out by 3 hours. Since no one was checking in, Tom allowed to have a very late check out (like 8p) at no additional charge. This made our final day in the area much more comfortable.
The high speed internet was a necessity for our family and we used it each day. Thank goodness for 2 TVs so that we could watch what we wanted.
We have 2 teens so the bunk was perfect. We don't have small kids but I did see a pack n play in the closet for those who might need it.
If I ever get back to AK, I would definitely rent this place again.
The only downside would be someone who needed handicap accessibility. There were 8 or 9 steps at the entrance and no ramp. Just keep that in mind.
Other than that, it was great.
We were a group of people from Australia staying in Anchorage for 3 days before getting our cruise through the Alaska Inside passage to Vancouver. We enjoyed our stay in this duplex, it was very clean and cozy, central to all, nice owner. We would stay here again if in Anchorage.
