Rhode Island - the Perfect Alternative to the Cape:
Tired of the crowds, congestion, and traffic of the Cape? South County RI was selected as one of the 12 best places to vacation by CNN's Money Magazine in April 2001- and for good reason. Not only are the beaches beautiful, but also nearby are golf courses, tennis, shopping, fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, mini-golf, bumper boats, go-karts - even an indoor ice skating rink! For a little culture, there is a variety of museums and galleries to visit. Enjoy outdoor performances? Your choices range from Blues on the Beach to the RI Philharmonic Orchestra. Easy day trips include catching the ferry to Block Island or Martha's Vineyard, sightseeing in Newport, or chartering a fishing boat from the local marina. Catch the famous 'Waterfire' in historic Providence. Other area attractions in neighboring Connecticut include Mystic Seaport & Aquarium, Foxwoods & Mohegan Sun Casinos, and the Pequot Museum. Email owner for more info on local attractions & activities.
Each Season has its Unique Attractions:
Summer is the premium season with a wonderful family beach 1 mile away, a private dock for boating and other water sports, and a saltpond for fishing, clamming, and child's play.
September is a local secret, with the warmest ocean temperatures of the year. The absence of tourists and crowds makes the beaches close to private, and the best restaurants are much easier to access without reservations. Those who vacation in South County at this time of year understand the local bumper sticker 'Pray for Labor Day'.
In October, the outstanding foliage and fishing are great attractions.
Winter and spring are great for tranquility, wood-stove fires, and the beauty of off-season ocean walks with the pounding surf and windblown sand. The winter surf attracts a hardy group of die-hard surfers (including our son), who swear that the technology of modern wetsuits keeps them warm in the coldest of nor'easters, which produce the best waves of the year. If you can't join them, you can watch!
