The prefect place to relax with your family.:
Wake up to the cry of the loons on Branch Lake. Get the coffee going then go outdoors and watch daylight rising on the lake. Get your fishing pole out and feed the sunnies from the dock or grab the binoculars and jump in the canoe. Early morning is the best time to explore the shoreline. You might see the eagle or beavers or a blue heron flying low.
When you get back to the cottage, pack a few snacks and head to Acadia. This national treasure has spectacular sights for all levels of sightseers. The park loop road is beautiful with out even getting out of your car. For a bird’s eye view of the island, don’t miss the drive to the top of Cadillac Mountain. For the more active sightseer, the park has an extensive web of hiking trails and biking carriage roads. There is truly something for everyone there.
The ride home...:
After a day of sight seeing, check out Bar Harbor’s many restaurants and shops for dinner and a walk. Or start home and stop at one of several lobster pounds on the way home. Our family favorite is Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound for wonderful food in a rustic Maine setting. Top the whole day off with an ice cream cone on the last leg home!
Other days at Twig Cove can be spent exploring the Blue Hill Peninsula, historic and beautiful Castine (home of Maine Maritime Academy). For a trip to ‘working’ Maine, head Down east to the tiny fishing villages where time has almost stood still.
Don't even leave the lake!:
A day without leaving Twig Cove is never a dull day. Swimming, canoing, exploring the camp roads, catching up on your reading, even a luxurious nap in the hammock… Bring your bikes and kayaks or ask about rentals. Try your hand at cooking your own lobster on the cooker and eat it on the deck. After dinner, light up a campfire in the pit and toast your marshmallows. The kids won’t forget their special vacation at Twig Cove and neither will you.
