Enjoy our well maintained cottage located less than 90 feet from the northwest shore of Burt Lake. You will have an outstanding view through the large picture window, from the deck or anywhere along the 145 foot lakefront. There is a long dock and swim platform for your enjoyment of Burt Lake's clear waters.
If you are bringing a boat the Maple Bay boat launch was significantly upgraded and completed in 2013, consisting of 2 concrete launch ramps. This facility is about 10 minutes from the cottage and makes it real easy to launch your boat. We have a mooring that can be used by our guests to moor their boat and we have a 2000 pound capacity hoist that is available if you have a boat that weighs less than that.
A 14 foot fishing boat comes with the cottage and is available for your use. Burt Lake is a great fishing site with bass, perch, walleye and brown trout. Nearby is the Maple River if your avocation is stream fishing for brook trout. There are several golf courses within a ten minute drive and another four or five within a 30 minute drive. You are located on the Inland Waterway with access to three other inland lakes and several rivers. Ultimately the Great Lakes are accessible via this waterway.
If shopping and sightseeing is more to your liking, look no further. Harbor Springs, Petoskey and Mackinaw City are a short drive away. In Mackinaw you can catch the ferry to Mackinaw Island. Rent a bike and set your own pace as there are no motor vehicles on the island.
If you are interested in a daily walk, run or biking there is a newly completed trail at the end of our driveway called the Burt Lake Trail; this was constructed during the summer of 2013 and is currently still being expanded.
Lest you forget that you are on vacation, many previous visitors say the best part is relaxing and enjoying the view.
The cottage is a perfect place to get away from it all. The cottage is located on Burt Lake, with a pier in front of the cottage. The sunrises are beautiful over Burt Lake. There is plenty of grassy area for dogs to roam. The cottage is also conveniently located for a short drive to Mackinaw City, Petoskey or other towns.
Despite cold, damp weather, we saw many sights in Northern Michigan and looked forward after every adventure to returning home to the clean and comfortable cabin. The beds were extremely comfortable. We especially enjoyed the large picture window and spent many hours sipping coffee and watching the ducks on the lake. The Burt Lake Trail is very convenient and provided biking, hiking, and running opportunities.
The cottage is exactly as stated. It has been exceptionally well maintained. I cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed our week here. Bill & Cathy wanted our stay to be stress free and it certainly was. The furnishings are very clean and comfortable. Each bedroom is spacious with big dressers and closets. The view from the living room at any time of the day is amazing. Being Michigan the weather went from cool to hot while we were here. The breeze off the lake kept the cottage very comfortable. I did not believe the weather report when it said it was 84*. Ron used the motor boat every morning and early evening to fish. Using night crawlers and crawler harnesses he caught 14" perch, 17" &18" walleye, and 10" rock bass. We saw a doe and buck outside the kitchen window one morning. Ron was able to get photos. For this city girl,it was the highlight of my week. I set up my sewing machine in the dining room next to the window. I kept my camera ready each day hoping they would come back. They didn't.The only day trip we planned was to visit the Oden Fish Hatchery about 25 minutes away. It has changed a lot since the early 80's when we vacationed at the state park with our boys. Ron purchased fish food at the welcome center. The brown trout jump and circle around waiting for the food. (Bring hand sanitizer to get the smell off your hands.) There is a picnic area at the pond. It is an experience for the whole family. We invited friends over for an evening. They remarked on how welcome you feel when you walk into the cottage. During the warm days Ron grilled and we ate on the picnic table. The afternoons we sat on the deck. It is a very quiet neighborhood. One evening we did meet Bill & Cathy. They were excited about our experiences. It would not be an up north vacation without a campfire.at night. We watched fishermen out in their boats as we sat around the fire. This cottage is very relaxing. We looking forward to another visit next year.
We stayed here the last week in July and I would highly recommend it. It's super, super clean and comfortable. It's at the north end of the lake which is nice and quiet (and not so windy!). The yard is very large so the boys were able to play catch and run around. Campfire every night. The swimming area is excellent - hard packed sand and water is very clean. They really enjoyed jumping off the dock. There is a lot to do in the area - short drive to Petoskey, Mackinaw, and Lake Michigan beaches.
