Our 1770's restored historic sea-captains/shipbuilders home enjoys a private, spectacular setting high atop a 125 ft. waterfront bluff. The driveway is just long enough to hide this trim Georgian-Federal home from the road as it stands guard 250 ft. from the outer edge of a picturesque cove...commanding pristine broad views over the Kennebec across to Arrowsic and Georgetown Islands, 4 nautical miles from open ocean, the river behaves more like a bay at this point . Facing East, wake to brilliant sunrises. Moonlight reflections are dramatic! Retreat from traffic and noise. Enjoy the waterfront decks, relax, watch shore birds, an occasional soaring eagle or seals frolicking below fishing the ever-changing 9 ft. tides. Cozy, unpretentious and comfortable, the house is situated on 10 acres with adjacent conservation lands. Squirrel Point Light is visible from our own property, and well as from the Center Pond bridge. A local 'swimming hole' at Center Pond affords a cool fresh water dip and is less than a 1/4 mile walk down the hill...as well as the Center Pond 253 acre Preserve with hiking trails. Close by explore Popham, its State Parks with miles of ocean beaches and the Civil War Fort. Bath is but 15 minutes. away...offering the Maritime Museum, quaint shops and dining (in addition to the more local lobster wharves). Brunswick, with Bowdoin College museums and theater, dining and shops, or the 'outlet mecca' of Freeport are short drives.   • $2000-$2575 depending on season and length of stay. **Optional cleaning fee. State tax may change.
  • Rates range from $2000 - $2575/week depending on number of persons in
    party, length of stay and season. The house will accommodate a maximum of 8 persons.

    The house is available for a minimum of one week. Monthly off season rate is available beginning Sept. 1st.
    To guarantee your reservation, a non-refundable deposit of one week or half the reservation (whichever is less) is required at booking to hold the reservation. The balance is due 30 days prior to arrival.
    We require a security/damage deposit of $1000 payable upon arrival by separate check.
  • The house is an historic property, retains many of the early details with an added wing with a lovely two room master bedroom suite on the 'ell' second level. A waterside deck is off the living room and also a second floor bedroom.
    Moved to its present site in 1978, the house it tucked in about 200 feet in from the road. The restoration and move up to this high bluff takes advantage of the privacy of the setting and magnificent natural and undeveloped view across more than a mile of a broad and bold part of the Kennebec River. This is an ideal location to relax, renew and get away from the hustle and bustle. A true Maine retreat...only 3/4 of a mile from the main road (Rte. 209) leading from Bath, while being located on the lightly traveled scenic Parker Head Road, the short-cut leading towards the beaches.

  • The tub/shower combination is the claw foot tub with a large curtained enclosure. Other showers are fiberglass showers in recently remodeled bathrooms.

  • Because the house is on private septic, EIGHT is the maximum the house may accommodate. There is ample space for an extra fold open bed if a separate sleeping arrangement is needed in one of the bedrooms or for a child in the second room of the master bedroom suite. Please inquire as advanced notice is required. Note there is a short, easy staircase to the second floor 'ell' master bedroom suite which may offer an option if difficulty with stairs is a minor issue. All bedrooms are on a second level...guests should be able to negotiate stairs.

Notes: The property has a wonderful private master bedroom suite. Appliances in the country kitchen are all recent and the view from the soapstone sink is magnificent! Pictures cannot do justice to the location. The house is carefully restored, preserving interesting staircases, pine floors and historic millwork. Bedrooms are all carpeted. In the large keeping-room fireplace, a Vermont Casting woodstove has been inserted and may be used for a fire on a chilly night, while the other four fireplaces add architectural interest but are not used for fires. This is a pure combination of historic charm and modern comfort!

A special reminder: Remember to bring you binoculars, camera or if an artist, your paint brushes...guest have enjoyed painting the views from the deck and from along the rural roadsides! The beaches, State Parks and conservation property nearby offer great opportunities for walking and exploring. Golf courses are available in both Bath and Brunswick, and, for a local scenic course, inquire at the Sebasco Harbor Resort for guest Tee off times. Public tennis courts are also in neighboring towns. Boats of all kinds (kayaks, charter sailboats, fishing outfitters, and scenic cruise boats) are available nearby.

Other Activities: A perfect retreat! Great location for seeing lighthouses. Excellent homebase for exploring all of Midcoast Maine!

A Touch of History, Comfort and Oh, the View

I, my husband and our well behaved dog recently enjoyed a stay at the Capt Drummond House. An amazing piece of history that has been tenderly cared for and loved through out its long years. A sturdy secure house, with original pine board floors and strap latched doors, cozy, comfortable rooms that welcome with simplistic details that stretch back to the years of the homes' original functioning Tavern days.
A well supplied kitchen invites ones creative nature, perhaps tossing in just a few extra dishes as an excuse to stand a bit longer at the soapstone sink , gazing out the window with the "best place to do dishes" view of the KennebecRiver and the ever changing tides.
Chiily evenings are cozy with a very efficient woodstove, a wing chair close by for snoozing, err, reading. There is a television with cable access, and clear cellular coverage, for remaining connected with the world beyond the long private driveway.
A recently updated master bedroom and master bath invites a peaceful sleep and welcomes the brightness of the morning sun.
A perfect "home" base from which to explore the area, an easy drive to highways, restaurants,beaches, forts and gems along the coast. The owners possess a wealth of information that easily point you on your way..
Or you can venture no further than the sunny back deck, coffee cup in hand, and gaze out beyond the hillside, to the swirling tides, local boats passing by, comical seals popping up in wonderment, eagles in flight and dreams on wings.
