EL DON is a classic 65-foot Hatteras motor yacht available for charter in the beautiful Loreto region of the Sea of Cortez. The yacht is offered with a crew of three (Captain, First Mate, and Chef) and includes fuel, three meals per day plus snacks and hors d'oeuvres, soft drinks, beer & wine, and mixed drinks. Also included in our price are fishing licenses, and permits for Marine Park use.
Lower Deck: The yacht has a spacious Master Suite aft with Queen bed and head with shower. The next suite forward is a Guest Stateroom with two twin beds and head with shower across the companionway. Four steps up from the sleeping deck is the lower saloon with full bar and ice maker, large dining table and sofa that opens into a double bed. Forward of the lower saloon is the fully equipped galley where the Chef creates outstanding Mexican dishes for your enjoyment. The Crew's Quarters with separate head and shower are located forward of the galley.
Main Deck: Four steps up from the lower saloon is the Main Deck with inside steering station and upper saloon also with a large dining and game table and chairs. The saloon also includes a sofa that converts into a double bed, overstuffed chairs, and a deck overlooking the lower aft utility deck. A large swim platform with a swim ladder makes for easy access to the yacht from the water. A spacious deck area on the bow of the Main Deck provides ample room for watching the pristine scenery. A large padded bench seat across the Main Deck and additional padded seating on the life jacket lockers provides very comfortable seating for our passengers to enjoy their cruise. A large sunbathing deck with lounging pads is located above and behind the bench seat on the roof of the lower saloon.
Bridge: The Bridge Deck offers panoramic viewing of the scenery and a bimini cover over the Bridge Steering Station.
Charter Area Options: The primary charter area are the islands near the home port of La Paz, BCS, Mexico. However, we can charter as far south as Cabo San Lucas and as far north as the Loreto / Puerto Escondido area during multi-day live-aboard charters. All the islands are pristine, are generally uninhabited and offer wonderful scenery, hiking, and photo opportunities.
Available Activities: Relax and experience the good life (at a VERY reasonable price) while our Mexican crew attends to your every need while also ensuring the safety of the yacht and everyone aboard. Try your luck at fishing off the stern of EL DON in a world-class fishing region. Our expert Mexican Chef will prepare your freshly caught fish for dinner. Swim in the crystal clear water, walk or sunbathe on the secluded beaches, sunbathe on deck, and generally relax and enjoy yourself on our classic luxury yacht. EL DON has two tandem kayaks for guests to explore the shoreline of the islands or the Baja peninsula. Rendezvous scuba diving with dive shops in La Paz can be arranges and guided free-dive spear fishing lessons are available at an additional cost.
Marine Mammals: Whale watching is very popular from mid-January through March. Porpoise frequently swim under and along-side the yacht as they play in the pressure wave off the bow. Sea Lions can be seen on their favorite rock outcroppings. The area is extremely rich in a wide variety of marine life that can be seen while snorkeling or scuba diving.
Visit La Paz: Visit the modern Mexican city of La Paz to shop for gifts and enjoy a delicious meal. Rental cars are available to explore the back roads of Baja, or drive down the peninsula to Cabo San Lucas.

The trip on the El Don was fantastic, the whole cruise was well done and we would not hesitate in recommending to anyone. In fact we are recommending it to people we know here already. Honestly the list of things I liked are endless. Food and staff were awesome, the itinerary on all the island visits were all different and exciting, the islands off of the coast of La Paz are an amazing place to visit, and visiting them with such a knowledgeable, polite, energetic crew put it in the top couple of my lifetime vacations.
What did we enjoy the best--so hard to say, there was so much. First, the crew was wonderful--very accomodating, friendly and competent. Humberto knew just where to take us, was willing to drop anchor a few times each day in order for us to explore lots of places on the Sea of Cortez. Eduard was always willing to take any one of us in the dinghy wherever or whenever we wanted to go. He showed us places we would not have found otherwise. And Viktor--what a gem! He was awesome. We enjoyed the food and the drinks, had more than plenty, but his demeanor and attitude made all of it even more enjoyable.
Besides the great service, we also had great weather, good snorkeling and enjoyed the kayaks and the old El Don. It is not in perfect shape but it is safe and wonderful. We also LOVED the poker table!

Found El Don on a search for a comfortable powerboat for 2-4 people. It was clearly a WIN for affordability, for ultra responsive customer service, for attending to the comfort of the guests. The El Don crew was extremely competant and agreeable. I am an experienced yacht'r in the Gulf and was very satisfied. Kayaks and dinghy were great additions. Snorkel gear is in fair condition. The boat is older and not in pristine condition, but it is very safe and comfortable. Surprised that there is NO guest seating on the flying bridge. Too bad!! The plumbing and generator were buggy, but this is not out of the ordinary for salt water vessels.. It's always something!!! The food and drink was ample, tasty, beautifully presented, and always available. The ownership was excellent to work with, and very fair in every regard. I heartily recommend El Don for a cruise of La Paz, Loreto and the Islands in between.
As they say south of the border, FANTASTICO! Our group of six, all in their 30’s, chartered EL DON for a three-day Sea of Cortez adventure. I don't think Ernest Hemingway himself could properly explain, via this comment, how much fun we had. We saw almost every kind or marine life, snorkeled and fished. The food was excellent, the crew was professional and pleasant, and the views were spectacular. Gary, the owner, did a great job of professionally meeting our requirements and expectations, from food to excursions. He gathered all the information that was vital and ensured all our needs were met. After the cruise, we relaxed at his lovely house for 4 days as we watched hummingbirds and doves chill on his back patio. Finally, just when you think things can't get better, Gary set us up with a day of off-shore fishing where we caught two marlins, one sail fish, and 8 dorado... this kind of a package deal can only be described as five-star. We took the long weekend cruise Gary notes in his VRBO narrative. Having cruised some of the best waters of the world on similar vessels, the El Don experience rates high for value. The scenery and marine wildlife is second to none. The vessel is well maintained. The captain, crew and chef are safe and professional. If you are looking for warm water adventure and relaxation for a reasonable price, El Don is for you.
Out time aboard the EL DON more than met our wildest expectations. We enjoyed exploring beautiful islands with lovely sandy beaches; the water was the beautiful green-blue color that we swam in at anytime. The wildlife is rich - we saw large schools of amazing dolphins which swam with the yacht, fin back whales with their babies a short distance away, interesting birds, tuna swimming under the boat, turtles, sea lions and much more. The staff were exceptional!!! It was our cruise and they were accomodating to every adventure. We caught a manta ray, enjoyed delicious food throughout the day prepared by our experienced chef and slept under the stars. We hope to board the EL DON again!!!
Enjoy your private charter on the beautiful Sea of Cortez, anchor in coves and isolated beaches at uninhabited islands, explore each island's terrain and vegetation, gaze at the stars far from city lights, enjoy the tranquility of this pristine region of Mexico, enjoy wonderful food prepared by our Mexican Chef.
