Enjoy some of the best and most beautiful hiking the country has to offer on the numerous trails in Acadia National Park. The cottage is just steps away from the park boundary, including one little known trail - Acadian Ridge - that is a short walk from the property. That hike takes you through a white birch forest, crosses several gurgling streams and meanders through a sweet smelling cedar grove. A comprehensive guide of all the trails the island has to offer is available for your use while staying in the cottage.
Lakewood, a large fresh water lake with a sand beach that is great for swimming is about 3 miles away. The Eagle Lake Carriage Roads, which include miles and miles of well groomed trails for bicycle riding, is a short 3-4-mile drive, as are both main park entrances, Cadillac Mountain and Hulls Cove. Bar Harbor is roughly 5 miles away, and has a wide variety of great restaurants, two movie theatres, and shops.
