Oldest one room school house in Massachusetts and listed on the US National Historic Registry built in 1843 and renovated as a residence in late 1990's. 1000 square feet home on one acre lot. One bedroom with queen sized bed upstairs. New tiled bathroom in 2007 with glass door shower and electric heat, completely equipped kitchen, large dining room, and a gas burning stove in the great room with forty foot gabled ceiling. New sofa with pull out queen sized bed in great room. Air conditioning upstairs for the few hots days in the summer. A fenced lot with a pond in the front, a brook on one side with acres of woods adjacent and stone patio with rope hammock, Adirondack chairs and metal table and chairs and fire pit for summer dining. It's 8 miles north of the Massachusetts Turnpike, 2.5 hours to New York City, 2 hours to Boston, forty minutes south of Adams and Williamstown.

A perfect week: the real ''home away from home''

This not so little red schoolhouse is a perfect place in any sense and the description is really accurate. A convenient location to visit the entire Berkshires. A lovely place to return after a day of discovering. A house very charming with all the memorabilia and antiques. Everything we need far from home. A good service for fixing a problem we have had at our arrival. An intimate garden surrounding the terrace with a creek at your steps. Thank you to share this gem with us. We have had a great time. We will return as soon as possible and we recommend it without no reserve.

Owner's Response: My guests are very kind in their comments considering there was no hot water when they arrived. The pilot light on the tankless heater had to be relit by a plumber that afternoon. I appreciate their patience. Morewood is throughly modern inside despite its 170 years of use.

We found Morewood on the internet and couldn't be happier. Owners were very responsive. Outside is historic and insight is surprisingly large and spacious with unique design features. We will return next summer.

Perfect Fall Retreat

We stayed here for week and it was our first time in the Berkshires in the fall. Home was great- warm and comfortable in a great wooded setting far from the crowds. The history was interesting and the people before us left a foliage drawing on the old chalkboard saying "Our Home Away from Home".
