|Minimum Stay||4 - 7 nights|
This luxurious beach house is nestled among the trees on a bluff overlooking Cape Breton's most spectacular pebble beach. It is wrapped on three sides by a covered veranda with a gazebo that is set up for dining, and offers a glorious view of the beach and Cape Smoky. The house is furnished with attention to quality and comfort with details such as wainscotting in the hallways and a crystal chandelier over the stairwell. The floors are all ceramic tile and hardwood. On the main floor is a gourmet kitchen, a sun-filled dining area, and a living room with rattan furniture and wood stove. On this floor are also a bedroom with queen size bed, and a bathroom with full size washer and dryer. Upstairs you find a lounge with an entertainment system and yet another breath-taking view, three bedrooms, one with an ensuit bath, and another bathroom.
From the door step you have access to a newtwork of our own trails that lead along the shore and
up into the mountains.
I am a retired occupational therapist and currently a potter. I live and work right here in Wreck Cove and take pleasure in seeing guests enjoy this lovely piece of the earth. Since I live here full time, I deal with guests directly – from key exchanges, to cleaning, to repairs, and anything in between. Both properties are fully furnished and have all the amenities of home!
Jitka purchased this house in 2005
The Garner family wrote in our printed guest book:
"A second year,
Just as wonderful as the first.
A great place, lots to do and great hosts; mostly great weather.
Overall, a terrific experience. We would recommend to anyone.
The Garners' friends added:
"Our 1st experience in the maritimes. What a splendid way to get to know this area. Spectacular scenery, good fresh fish, many places to discover and explore. Great relaxed atmosphere and friendly people.
A beautiful property, well concieved, well equipped, great views and exceptional hosts/owners. Jitka and Gilbert - always ready to answer questions, provide adice and welcome us.
All in all, a memorable (too short) holiday!
Katrina, Stefania, Angie, and Francois"
We just got back from spending four nights at the Studio apartment at Singing Pebbles.
We were celebrating our 30th anniversary!
Coming home to our "cottage" each evening after exploring the Island was delightful.
Jitka's suggestions were very helpful.
God's creative handiwork and majesty is wonderfully displayed in this part of the world!
We would highly recommend Singing Pebbles as a place to stay in the area; being close to many attractions and still a private place with personal attention.
And Jitka's pottery is amazing.
The beach house overlooks the ocean to the right, Cape Smokey straight ahead and the Cabot Trail to the left. I am not sure that a more picturesque location would be possible. The Singing Pebbles is a very special place indeed! A short walk through the property to Angel's Bluff is a rewarding journey for someone seeking to see the most magnificent sunrise imaginable.
The house is spacious enough for a family to enjoy, will all the amenities of home. Jitka was a warm and friendly host, with lots of suggestions as to what to do and see while on the island. Aside from that, there is lots to do on the property itself with a games room and swimming pond available for your use.
Cape Breton is a wonderful place to visit - I would highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys the outdoors, scenic drives, hiking, adventure... There is a lot more to do than one week could have possibly afforded, and that's why we will be returning one day - hopefully soon!
My husband and teen-age girls just returned from a two-week stay at the beach house at Wreck Cove. The house is clean and incredibly spacious with four bedrooms, a tv room, living room and well-appointed kitchen. My favourite feature of the house is the amazing wrap-around deck with the eating area. The views from the deck are spectacular.
The property itself is really exceptional in that it is situated on the most picturesque part of the Cabot Trail (in my opinion). It is close to grocery stores, wonderful restaurants (Main Street Cafe in Ingonish is my favourite), hiking and beaches (Black Cove is nice). The house is on a huge lot overlooking the ocean and the rugged coastline. There is also a pebble beach that you can spend time roaming and picking up stones. We spent many evenings on the beach with a campfire looking at the star-strewn sky. Amazing!!
We really had a wonderful two weeks here exploring Cape Breton and enjoying the peace and serenity at the beach house. Very memorable time with our girls. I would highly recommend the short hike to White Point which is close to the top of Cape Breton and is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. My husband and I also took our kayaks up there.
A note about our host: Jitka could not have been kinder or more helpful. She was always available to answer questions or suggest a restaurant or activity.
One last item about the property. For those with kids, there is no wifi, which was daunting for our girls who love tv. It ended up being a god-send. We spent evenings playing cards, watching movies (Jitka has dozens to choose from), reading and talking. Definitely a plus not a minus!!
We had a wonderful time in Cape Breton and I second everything that others have posted in their comments. You cannot beat Cape Breton for the sightseeing or the beauty. We went all over the island and all of it was awesome. We went to see whales at Meat Cove and were not disappointed; we must have seen a dozen, at least! And the vistas! You'll also see tons of moose (careful when driving at night!).
The home was beautiful, as others have posted. We enjoyed the pie and the flowers too and everything the home had to offer. I have to provide a few warnings though....The home could have been cleaner....I don't know who stayed in the home before us but there were tons of long dog hair all over the place....in plain view, rolled under couches, in corners....everywhere! As many members of my family are allergic to dogs, we had quite the fun time with allergic reactions! (not!) So here I am, first thing I had to do was vacuum the place from top to bottom when I first got there....just to find that the vacuum cleaner that is in the house overheats after about five minutes so had to resort to a broom. As it's impossible to get rid of dander without a thorough cleaning, I would caution allergy sufferers that this home is pet friendly.
Also, if you like a good pillow to sleep on, bring your own as most of the pillows in the house are flat as pancakes. While I'm on bedding, some of the sheets (as some of the towels) had stains on them...gross! Limited face clothes for a week if you're more than four or five people visiting too so you might want to bring a supply. Same goes for kitchen linen as there's only one dishrag and 2-3 dishtowels. If you offer a home for rental with linen included that linen should be replaced more often than what is done in this home.
The ad says "sleeps 8-10" but that would mean you need to use the basement as there's a futon down there. But the basement is unlivable due to very high humidity and mold (and its related smell). No problem in the rest of the house so I would say sleeps 8 comfortably.
All in all, a very good week. I would recommend the home with the above provisos.
My grandchildren said over and over again that this was the best family vacation ever. They loved Singing Pebbles . The beach house was perfect for our family of 7. The location on the beach gave us several hours of peaceful "together" time . S'mores and hot dogs on the beach, watching "Bruce" the eagle fly in and out each day, star gazing and the game room were wonderful. Elizabeth loved the pets. One day we declared "Levi Day" for our youngest. He could choose the activities. He chose to stay at the beach house and eat spaghetti. We did however leave and found Donella's Puffin Tours, Captain Marks Whale Watching , Baddeck, Skyline Trail, Main Street Restaurant and so many other things to be close enough to enjoy. Thanks Jitka for making this such a memorable experience. By the way, the pottery has a place of honor and I really am going to use it :)
My family of six adults had a wonderful week staying in the Singing Pebbles beach house this summer. The location is perfect for getting to many different sites on the island. Jitka took good care of us, starting with a fresh apple pie and wildflowers at our arrival, and then her timely response when a crow knocked out power to the house suddenly toward the end of our stay. We felt welcomed and at home, and certainly could have enjoyed another week! Absolutely recommended!
Here you are with the beach at your doorstep and minutes away from the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, the ski hill at Cape Smoky and the Highland Links - Canada's #1 golf course. You are 40 minutes from Bell's Bay golf course and Baddeck attractions. The Cabot Trail's most spectacular pebble beach is yours every season of the year. Watch whales and gannets. Enjoy a breathtaking view of the ocean sunrise. Explore natural hiking trails along the beach and up to the highlands. Swim the the spring-fed pond and savour the produce from the vegetable and flower gardens in season. On rainy days or during long winter and autumn evenings, enjoy the game room with pool table, ping-pong, and dart board.
Other Activities: whale watching, beach combing, scenic drive, games room with ping-pong table, pool table, foose ball and darts
