- 3 BR, 4 BA, Sleeps 8-10.

NOTE: To rent this property for Memorial Day weekend, you need to rent for the entire week.

Custom built and designer decorated, this home is in a quiet neighborhood abutting conservation land. This charming reproduction cottage with superb craftsmanship incorporates historic design and antique materials with today's comforts. Two brick fireplaces, antique oak and pine floors and beams give a feel of yesteryear. But history is belied by a modern fully tiled gourmet kitchen (Asco dishwasher, Bosch gas range, retro style refrigerator, microwave, food processor, disposal), and three bedrooms with en suite tiled baths and glass shower enclosures; the master bath also has a jacuzzi tub. A family room with an entertainment center, piano, and a queen sofa bed doubles as a fourth bedroom. Each of the other three bedrooms has an ensuite bath; the upstairs bedrooms have an expansive view of conservation land. There are also two finished rooms in the basement: a recreation/family room and an office with wireless internet.

Description of Home Interior: The second floor master bedroom has a fireplace and a jacuzzi tub. A second upstairs southern exposure bedroom has twin bunk beds and a double sofabed. The ensuite bathroom also has a washer and dryer. The first floor master bedroom has a queen bed and an ensuite bathroom.

The first floor family room can be closed off to be a fourth bedroom (queen sofabed). This room also has a piano, television with VCR, and a stereo system. The adjacent main living area and dining alcove overlook cultivated lawn and conservation land. Beautiful landscaping and perennial gardens compliment the natural terrain and a southern deck offers sunshine and solitude.

The lower level has an office with a large desk, telephone, printer and wireless internet. The media room has a large television and DVD player.

This home is equipped with central air-conditioning and has an automatic generator in the unlikely event of a power outage. . Call for description of furnishings.

The Neighborhood: This home is in a superb location with proximitiy to the beach, Madaket harbor and a bike path. Walk to the north shore's calm water beach or bike (2 miles) to Madaket's south shore beach with heavy surf and magnificent sunsets. The neighborhood is quiet and friendly and there are two tennis courts available. Local in-season buses (at the end of a short street) go into Nantucket town every half hour.

Activities: Water activities range from lounging at the beach to all kinds of boat trips (fishing, whale watching, sight seeing, etc), to driving on miles of beaches. High end boutique shopping for the landlubbers. Museums include the whaling museum, Maria Mitchell observatory and the historic commission's many properties. Cultural activities abound in the summer, the most famous being the Atheneum lecture series and the Boston Pops concert on the beach. Performances by local theater groups and musicians from around the world. World class restaurants for the nights when you are tired of grilling all that fresh fish. So much to do, so little time.....

Car: recommended

Madaket's south shore beach, with vigorous surf and magnificent sunsets, is two miles on a bike path. A 15 minute walk through the moors will bring you to a calm water north shore beach. Madaket harbor is a short drive--or walk--away. There are many fishing ponds and walking paths within a two mile radius. For sun-weary beachcombers, Nantucket town is 4 miles by bike path, car, or shuttle bus. Play tennis on one of the two private courts in the neighboorhood. All water sport activities are available on the island, as well as fishing excursions, boat rentals. Take your 4 wheel drive down miles of nearly empty beach (permit only), perhaps to Great Point at sunrise. Fish, fish, and fish some more. When you get tired of the water and of your summer reading, try a historic walk, or better yet a ghost walk. And don't forget to eat to your heart's content in one of the many fine restaurants, order a clambake on the beach, or grill that oh-so fresh fish.

We had a great stay in this beautiful house. It was cozy and bright and so much larger than it looks. It was exactly as pictured, it was spotless, the contact person, Laura, was very helpful and nice. It was exactly what we needed for my mom who was ill from cancer. She enjoyed it so very much. Feels historic has every convenience

We have stayed at this beautiful Nantucket home more than once. We love the feel of old Nantucket with wide board, natural floors and beamed ceilings. Yet the house is fairly new and has every convenience including full kitchen with contemporary applicances. The light is fabulous throughout the house with glass transoms filtering light in every room. The decor is well suited to Nantucket and although it has designer touches, still very comfortable for relaxation. There are plent of rooms to read and find your own space. Bedroom on first floor is good sized with bath and master bedroom is very spacious.

The location is best suited for a car, but we did stay once using the bus, which is very convenient to the house. Beach is in walking distance or bike path takes you to Madaket.
Great house for cooking and good sized yard for outdoor dining.

We'd definitely go back.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Pet-friendly, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Romantic Getaway
