Located on all-sports Twin Lake with a large sandy bottom beach - great for swimming. Just off shore is a small island that children love to explore. Close to Michigan's Adventure theme park, the Manistee National Forest, and Lake Michigan beaches and resort towns. The cottage was recently renovated and is essentially new construction, and very nicely furnished. The cottage features a very large common room, master bedroom with private balcony and lovely sunrise views. The fully enclosed front porch leads to the deck spanning the width of the house and features a hot tub overlooking the lake.
Lake Michigan Coast: A 20 minute drive will bring you to Muskegon or Whitehall area with many fine, free public beaches to chose from. In between the cities are the Muskegon and Duck Lakes State Parks with wonderful beach access (children love the stream from Duck Lake to Lake Michigan)
Shopping and Dining: Up and down the coast line are resort towns such as Pentwater, Silverbeach, Whitehall, Grand Haven, and Saugetuck. All have interesting shopping, fine restaurants, and breakwalls/lighthouses.
Entertainment: Lake Michigan's Adventure, the largest amusement and water park in the state, now owned by Cedar Point, is ten minutes away. The park features a huge wooden roller coaster and water rides. Great fun for a day. Silver Beach has many square miles of Lake Michigan sand dunes that you can tour from your own 4x4, rent a jeep, or take a tour ride.
We came here for a week last June and we loved it. My kids like the lake the swam for hours out front. I swam to the island. The cottage was great , very well done the kitchen is nicer than my home. One day it rain but we went in the hot tub and watched movies. We spent one day at Michigan adventure about 15 minutes away. We like liked Twin lake and are planning a trip there in early June of 2010.
From the moment we arrived and walked into the house we knew we picked the right place. The pictures depicted everything. We love lake, fishing and the kids loved the hot tub, kayaks, and the island. Every morning we woke early to the sun. Bruce was there the moment we arrived and the day before we left. It is clear he has invested time and money to keep this place up and running and we couldn't agree more. We shared the house with our family and they too were just an awe upon arrival. We had kids that ranged in age from 16 down to 10. We never once heard them once say they were bored. It was can we go fishing now, or we're going on the kayaks. Before we left our kids asked if we could go back next year...definitely
We had an amazing week on Twin Lake at this large, roomy, airy, well-laid out cottage! The outdoor living space is just as fantastic, with a super large deck overlooking the small child friendly beach! The hot tub was in good working order and we enjoyed it almost every night. The lake itself must have been close to 90 degrees! It is shallow and clear and absolutely perfect for the wee ones .Bruce made sure that we were stocked up on wood for s'mores and chats by the fire. We ventured out on the lake with the kayaks and row boats daily. A serene setting, but close to all amenities and area attractions! Thanks Bruce! We will be back!!
I AM VERY UNSATISFIED WITH RENTING THIS PAST LABOR DAY WEEKEND. THE HOUSE WAS VERY BEAUTIFUL AND I PLANNED ON RENTING IN THE FUTURE WHEN I FIRST GOT THERE. BUT WITH ALL PROBLEMS THAT I HAD WHILE STAYING THERE AND THE OWNER NOT BEING AVAILABLE OR ACCOMMODATING CHANGED MY MIND. THE SHOWER IN BATHROOM BY THE ENTRANCE DOES NOT WORK. THE CABLE ALSO DID NOT WORK AND WHEN I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO TELL THE OWNER ABOUT IT BECAUSE HE WOULD NOT ANSWER OR RETURN MY CALL UNTIL THE LAST DAY, HE TOLD ME "I CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT NOW". I COULD HAVE ENJOYED THE HOUSE A LITTLE MORE WITH THE WEATHER BEING THE WAY IT WAS AND THE CABLE WORKING BUT I DIDNT EVEN HAVE THAT! HAD I KNOWN THAT THERE WERE AN ISSUE WITH THE CABLE I WOULD HAVE NEVER RENTED KNOWING BEFORE HAND THAT THERE WAS A BACKUP FOR IF THE WEATHER WAS BAD. I WAS EXPECTING THE OWNER TO AT LEAST MAKE AN APPEARANCE OR ANSWER MY CALLS BUT MAKE NO ATTEMPT EXCEPT BUT TO FINALLY ANSWER ON MY DAY OF DEPARTURE. EVEN AFTER I LEFT HE STILL DID NOT ANSWER MY CALLS. I DO NOT RECOMMEND DOING BUSINESS WITH HIM IN THE FUTURE ESPECIALLY IF I AM PAYING SOMEONE FOR A SERVICE IN THE WAY THAT WAS DISPLAYED. ALSO, THERE WAS VERY LITTLE ACCOMMODATIONS FOR GUESTS TO COOK CONSIDERING THE SHORTAGE IN POTS/PANS TO COOK WITH. YET ANOTHER FALSELY ADVERTISED "QUIRK". THERE WAS NOTHING TO CLEAN THE CRAPPY PANS THAT WERE THERE. I HAD TO USE PAPER TOWELS. PLAN ON BRINGING YOUR OWN TRASH BAGS BECAUSE THERE WAS ONLY ONE WHICH WAS ALREADY LINED IN THE TRASH CAN. ALSO THE HOT TUB ONLY WORKED PROPERLY THE FIRST NIGHT. I MADE THESE COMPLAINTS AFTER I LEFT THROUGH AN EMAIL AND THE OWNER OFFERED TO REIMBURSE ME BUT NEVER DID.
We had a great time at the cottage. The cottage was very roomy for our 2 families and the outdoor deck was fantastic. We had a few minor glitches, but owner Bruce was fair with compensating us for the problems we experienced. The location was great with many things to do a very short distance away. The lake was a perfect size for our children ages 12 - 14, they could out with the kayak and boat with their lifejackets to the island and explore.
Thanks Bruce for a great time!
