I am back in Bermuda safe and sound. I am now at my desk facing the challenges and stresses of my world. Glenville was a welcome respite from all this craziness.
I had an absolutely wonderful time at Glenville. As I told you, almost all of my trips (about 12 times a year) involve staying in large hotels with all the creature comforts one could want. However, my spirit prefers to be surrounded by little "concrete" and lots of Mother Nature's bounty and so, Glenville was a beautiful diversion from the "large hotel scene". The gardens were beautiful; the sound of birds singing to me each morning and the home-baked goodies were a special treat :) I have yet to see the turtles
that are purported to be cavorting around the property :)
I really appreciated your warm hospitality and the relaxing atmosphere. I shall definitely be promoting Glenville as a place to get away form all the "hustle and bustle".
Set in lovely gardens populated by tortoises, hens and numerous birds the cottages are within a short walk of the beach and frequent buses to Bridgetown. The cottages are fully equipped with large fridge freezer, cooker and microwave if you wish to self cater. Alternatively there are several restaurants within walking distance for eating out. Barbara welcomed us with a cold beer and provided us with some lovely home made cakes during our stay. Whether you want to laze in the gardens, on the beach, explore Barbados or go to the cricket in Bridgetown this is the perfect accommodation
Visited Glenville Gardens for 2 weeks for the cricket, it was highly recommended by a friend and she was not wrong in her glowing description! Accommodation is spacious, spotless, extremely well equipped and secure. The gardens lovely and lush and very secluded. It was my first visit to Barbados and i was travelling alone, Barbara and Sugrim were very helpful, informative and supportive regarding taxis, shopping, buses, eating out etc. The location is perfect for beach, restaurants and exploring the island. I cannot recommend this place enough and will be returning in the near future!
Delightful setting, great hosts, convenient location, well-equipped lodgings made my 10 day stay here a wonderful experience.
Yes, I would go back, yes I would highly recommend Glenville Gardens, and yes, you'll probably ending up feeling the same way.
Barabados is blessed with some of the most magnificent beaches in the Caribbean and some of the nicest people in the world. Just a short walk from a lovely beach is Glenville Gardens, overseen by perhaps the nicest people in Barbados, Barbara and Sugrim.
Glenville Gardens, a few cottages situated in a beautiful garden, is a soothing environment where one can relax and enjoy the near idyllic Caribbean weather. The garden is a soothing sanctuary for plants, animals, and people.
Barbara is an amazing gardener, and the grounds are filled with trees and plants that create a calming oasis and supply the bananas for her delicious homemade banana bread and the fruits (we were there when passion fruit was ripe) she presents as gifts for her guests. A few chickens and turtles are among the unobtrusive but welcome denizens of Glenville Gardens as are many birds, including hummingbirds and bananaquits, and a small group of green monkeys that often pass through the garden though they do not reside there.
The cottages (we stayed in Heather), are lovely, well-equipped, and each has an outdoor sitting area. They are also immaculately kept and cleaned. There are communal spaces and a barbecue where guests can socialize if they wish. Privacy or community – it’s up to each guest to decide. This has to be one of the least stressful environments we’ve ever been lucky enough to experience.
Glenville Gardens is close to beaches, restaurants, bars, shopping, and the excellent public transportation system that can deliver you from one end of the island to the other.
Barbara and Sugrim are perfect hosts. They are hospitable, helpful, friendly, informative, efficient, and just plain wonderful people. Upon arrival, they immediately made us feel welcome and part of the family. When w had to head home, we did not want to leave, not just because we fell in love with Barbados, but because we were enamored with Glenville Gardens, Barbara, and Sugrim.
After reading the wonderful reviews, I decided to book our 1-week stay at Glenville Gardens in December 2014. I was at bit apprehensive. Could all the reviews be that good I asked myself? In a short answer “Yes” the reviews are true...so much so that I’ve been raving about this place to all my friends and colleagues back home and wanted to write this review...my very first one!
The evening my husband and I arrived, we were greeted by Barbara and shown around. Wow, is all I can say, impressive! The grounds were immaculate as was the cottage we stayed in; everything was so clean and well presented. The kitchen was extremely well equipped. Glenville Gardens is very secure and quiet and yet is only a short walking distance from the boardwalk and ocean, buses, banks, shopping, outdoor market, great restaurants and bars. I felt safe and ventured out by myself during the day as my husband stayed back to enjoy the peace and quiet. I can’t ignore the amazing housekeeper, Debra. She is so much more than that, we had great discussions with her and laughed until we cried.
During our stay we were invited to a potluck and met the other guests. Barbara is an amazing cook and both she and Surgim are wonderful hosts and wonderful resources. We have made some great friends and really enjoyed this small piece of paradise with roaming chickens, monkeys and turtles.
This was much too short a visit as our experience was great and we can’t wait to go back...hopefully for a longer stay.
It has already been the second time that we came to Glenville Gardens with three little kids, one being a baby. The place is a wonderful green oasis with lots of fruit trees, very cosy cottages with fully equipped kitchen. Also a washing machine is at your disposition. Just a 3min walk from the sea and boardwalk with nice beaches and restaurants. The hosts Barbara and Sugrim are very welcoming, their banana cake and coconut buns delicious! The kids can room around safely in the garden and play with or feed the chicken and turtles.
