Set in farmland surrounded by fields of sunflower and maize, Le Tilleul is situated in a small hamlet outside the village of St Quentin-de-Chalais on the Charente/Dordogne border. The nearest town, Chalais, is about 3 km away. This is a small market town with a railway station and a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants. There is a market every Monday. There are many countryside walks in the locality which allow you to explore the area, and during the summer months enjoy tastings of the locally produced wines, Pineau and Cognacs.
About 8 km away is the beautiful historic village of Aubeterre, which has a monolithic church, craft shops and a pretty square with restaurants. There is a river beach at Aubeterre and other options for outdoor activities in the area include walking, horseriding, canoeing and a small water park.
There is also easy access to Bordeaux, Angouleme, St Emilion, Riberac, Perigueux, La Rochelle, Cognac and the Dordogne for day trips.
